On the ‘Jam Buddies‘ promise
Steven made that promise to Connie back in season 1, when he was incredibly naive and had no idea of what he was about to face...and then, seasons later, he is faced with two agents from a cosmic empire that is so powerful it could destroy everything he knew without even trying, who had just curb-stomped the CGs and showed a willingness to kill humans, and this after he had grown disillusioned upon discovering that everything he was told about his mother was a lie, he was terrified that Connie(along with his family and entire planet) would end up killed and wrongly came to the conclusion that he had to clean up his mother’s mess, that’s why he offered himself up.
And on how he pretended nothing happened, yeah he hurt Connie’s feelings but he had just been PUT ON TRIAL BY TWO GALACTIC OVERLORDS WHO WANTED HIM DEAD, WAS FORCED TO HIDE ON A HOSTILE PLANET, AND WITNESSED ONE OF HIS FRIENDS DIE, jfc he’s a sheltered 13-year-old of course he didn’t want to think about that, he was probably on the verge of a mental breakdown.
Was he wrong? yes; did he do that out of some selfish malice or lack of empathy towards Connie? no.
SU critters are so obsessed with cherry-picking his mistakes, even if the show aknowledged them to be mistakes, to try and paint him like an egomaniacal monster.

This took me forever to do but I hope you like it! Feel free for you guys to ask me for more!
