Jamie Kennedy is an American actor who is best known for playing Randy Meeks in the horror films Scream (1996) & Scream 2 (1997). He’s also appeared in Dead Poets Society (1989), Romeo + Juliet (1996), Clockwatchers (1997), As Good as It Gets (1997), and Ghost Whisperer (2008-2010).
Kennedy was born in Upper Darby Township, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, America. He was raised in a Catholic household and started working as an extra in Hollywood films. He was in a relationship with actress Jennifer Love Hewitt from 2009 - 2010.
Randy Meeks was a popular character with fans of the Scream franchise, despite the character only appearing in two of its films (he appeared as a cameo in Scream 3). It’s a shame they killed him off in the sequel.
Randy is a teenager who lives in Woodsboro, he is a friend of Sidney Prescott and is a fan of horror films. His love of horror films initially made him a suspect, but he became suspicious of Stu Macher when Stu expresses no concern for his missing girlfriend. Randy then finds out that he was right; Stu is one of the killers and is later shot by Billy Loomis but survives. In Scream 2 he attends College to study film when more killings occur, he gets a phone call from the killer and then the killer drags him into a van and kills him.
In one of the earlier screenplays for Scream, it was Randy, not Sidney, who kills Stu and then afterwards asks Sidney on a date. A script leak prevented this ending from taking place and the ending had to be rewritten. The writers of the film also had Randy working as Gale Weathers’ cameraman instead of a student, but his death remained the same. The film makers considered bringing Randy back for Scream 3, and reveal that he survived the attack, but they had to abandon this idea due to it being unrealistic.
