“I said I’m fine,” Kylie muttered as she limped into the dressing room, making weak attempts to rebuff the younger girl that kept trying to help her.

Jan frowned, but still helped her sit down. “You fell hard,” she reminded her, having witnessed how the cabaret dancer took one wrong step and lost her footing completely. “You could’ve hurt your ankle, at least put some ice on it,” she insisted as she handed her a cup of water.

Despite her previous protests, she accepted the drink, tossing the empty plastic cup in the general direction of the garbage. “Don’t worry about me, kid, you’ve still got your set to perform,” she reminded her.

“I just wanna make sure you’re taken care of first,” the lounge singer gently took her hand and squeezed it, “promise me you’ll rest up, okay?”

Kylie couldn’t fight the fond smile that crossed her lips and she leaned over, pressing a kiss to Jan’s temple. “I promise, kid.”

“I wish you’d stop calling me that…”

She sighed, peeling her eyes away from her and whispered, “sometimes I gotta remind myself before I do something stupid,” then, audibly, “alright, Jan.”
