Hearing his phone ringing, Jared glanced away from his laptop and dug under the take out containers that littered his desk to find it. Hitting the ‘accept’ button, he tucked it between his ear and shoulder. “Hello?”
“Hey, Jare. It's me.”
“Did you get ‘em?”
“Yeah, I just got them. But you know that.”
Jared smiled. His friend was right, he got the notification 20 minutes ago that said they were signed for and delivered. “Okay, did you like them?”
“They’re perfect.”
“So when I come visit for this grand opening..”
“Yeah, you got a place. I'll send you the first case as soon as it's ready to go.”
“Awesome.” Jared smiled. “I'm glad you liked them.” he spoke as he deleted what he had typed out and tried again, brow furrowing because it still wasn't right.
“Hey, you working on anything important?”
“Not really, why? What else do you need?” he deleted it all again and sat back, glaring at the image with no words. He took the phone in his hand and switched ears.
“I was kind of an asshole to this woman..”
“Oh?”Jared’s interest was peaked. “Good looking?” he smirked.
“Shut up.” Jared laughed, knowing his friend was likely blushing. “Anyways, this place is small, business is slow for her.. she wants to change some stuff up.. I was hoping I could rope you into a bit of work, on me. As an apology to her.”
“What's the place and what are we talking?” Jared sat forward again typing out what Jensen was saying and looking to see if there was a website, or pictures. “Got a website here..”
“Yeah, I think I found it too..”
“Looks a bit outdated..” Jared typed a bit more. “Oh yeah, hasn't really been updated in a few years.”
“I figure, new website and new pamphlets? She does this pamphlet exchange thing with other businesses, so I think she'd appreciate some new ones. And if she really does decide to renovate-”
“Well, the info is on the website, so I can contact her and talk to her about what she'd like. Just let her know first so this isn't weird, okay?”
“Thanks Jare. I owe you one for this.”
“You're paying me for this.” Jared laughed.
It was two days before he heard from Jensen again, and another three before he called you. But now he sat with his long legs up on his desk, a plate with half eaten breakfast that he picked at when he could, but mostly he was jotting down notes onto a pad of paper he held on his lap.
“So what kind of renovations did you say you were doing right now?”
“I'm putting in a small kitchen and dining area, so we can offer light breakfasts to the guests.”
“Is that going to be an extra cost, or will room price include that?”
“Uh…” there was silence on the line as you thought about that. “I didn’t even think of that…”
Jared chuckled. “It’s fine. There's no rush. It really depends on what you think is best and the costs to you. You can up the price of a room a little and have it included breakfast ‘free of charge’ so to speak, whenever they want it. Or simply charge competitive prices for whatever is going to be on your menu.” He let you think for a moment. “Speaking of, have you considered what would be on the menu?”
“Uhm.. breakfast?” you laughed. “Shit. I’m sorry.”
Jared chuckled. “Don't worry, really. I've worked with less. All Jensen told me was ‘I'm making and selling beer, just make it nice.’”
“Is there anything I can do? Other then figure out what I’ll be doing.” he could hear the embarrassment in your voice.
“You got a good camera? If not, borrow Jensen’s. Send me plenty of pictures of what you want to showcase. I need a few of outside, and the rooms, obviously. One of you, so people get a feel for who they’re dealing with, makes it a bit more personal. And when the renovation is done, that area as well. The small details we can figure out later. Give you time to think it all over.”
“That sounds perfect, thank you.”
“I'll talk to you later.” Jared chuckled and shook his head as he hung up, writing down one more note before he reached over for a piece of toast and dipped it into egg yolk.
Packing up the two packages, he slapped a label on one before grabbing both and heading to his car. He drove the five minutes it took to get him to the post office. “Hey Dave.” He smiled as he headed for the counter.
“What do you have for me today, Jared.”
“Just this one.” He put it down on the counter.
“Overnight?”
“Hmm.” He thought for a second. “Give it a day.”
“Express it is.” Dave nodded. “Signature and notifications as always?”
“You know it.”
After weighing the package, he printed out the shipping label, and Jared paid. “Here you go.” He handed over the receipt. “What are you up to this weekend?”
Jared smiled. “Friends opening a brewery and bar. Got a grand opening to go to. Should be good. I think he met someone, and I get to finally meet her.”
“Drink a beer for me?”
“I’ll do you one better, I’ll bring you some back. I should be home for game night. Your place or mine?”
“Mine. Later, man.”
“See ya.”
Jared looked around the room. He didn’t know anyone here, and he was sure Jensen didn’t either. It looked like it was mostly townies, or people who saw his picture on the website and scrambled to meet a ‘celebrity’.
He lifted the bottle he held to his mouth when he caught someone looking surprised by the pamphlets by the bar. His eyes swept over her from behind. She looked quiet and shy, he tried to judge if it was the same person he had spoken to on the phone. He didn’t need to think on it for long, as she turned and he recognized her, so he started to walk over.
“Did I do good?”
You turned and looked at him, confused. “Sorry?”
“The pamphlets. For your motel. Did you like them?”
“Oh, yeah.” You smiled. “That was you?”
He nodded. “Jared. Padalecki. Have you said hi to him yet?”
“No, I just got here. I didn’t see him..” He watched you glance around at the crowd of people.
“He was pretty excited when you said you were coming.” Jared smiled when you looked back at him shocked.
“Y\N! You made it.” Jared smiled as Jensen all but pushed his way through the crowd to get to you, arms opening for a hug. “Wow.” You held you at arm’s length and looked you over. “You look… You look good..”
Jared leaned closer for a moment, just long enough to whisper “Told you.” Before he winked and wandered off. Jared stood off to the side, watching quietly as both you and Jensen talked awkwardly together. Both blushing and getting flustered from time to time. “Jesus Christ.” Jared laughed to himself. “These two are hopeless.” He shook his head with a grin.
“Hi.”
Jared turned towards the voice, and smiled at the woman who had made her way over to him. “Hey.” He licked his bottom lip as she blushed under his gaze.
“You’re not from around here, are you?”
“Nope. Just visiting.” She gave him a nod, and took a drink from the glass she held. “Wanna head outside? Get some fresh air?” He asked boldly, and she nodded. Jared took one more glance over at you and Jensen as he put an arm around the girls shoulder and started to lead her out. “So, what’s your name?”

Part 15 of ‘My son, Bringer of Storms’.
When River walked in, you were sitting at the table. Dinner was ready to serve, and you’d finished setting the table yourself, but you weren’t eating, or serving. Your chair was turned, your elbow on the table and your head in your hand. “Mom?” You looked up, realizing River was back, not really knowing how long he’d been standing there. “What’s going on?”
“I don’t want to talk about it, River. Sit and eat.” You turned and were staring at nothing in particular.
“Are you mad at dad for making things work with Genevieve?”
“River..” You warned him.
“I’m sorry I pushed mom, I was sure he loved you as much as you still love him. But you can’t be mad at him for wanting to fix his marriage. You told me he wasn’t ours, remember? We have to let him go? So stop fighting with him! Don’t hate him for what he had to do!” You clenched your jaw, taking a deep breath and trying to keep yourself calm. “Just let him-”
“I’m pregnant.” You said it between clenched teeth.
River froze. “Is it..”
“Your fathers?” You looked up at him. “Yeah. It is. We got what we wanted, River, for one fucking night. And then it all got ripped apart, and once again, I’ll have a constant reminder of what a fuck up I am. His damn eyes always looking at me.” You shook your head. “Another fucking child with the one person I can’t get over. And his wife constantly up my ass so I can’t even enjoy what time you guys will have with him.”
“Mom..” He stepped forward, realizing you were crying.
“I can’t do this.” You got up and headed for your room. “Sit and eat. I’ll clean up later.” You shut the door behind you, and River sighed.
Looking around River spotted your phone. Picking it up he dialed Jared. “What?” Jared sounded annoyed when he picked up.
“Dad?”
“River? What’s wrong?” Jared sounded worried now.
“Did you know mom’s pregnant?”
Jared sighed. “Yeah… yeah I know buddy.”
“Is this why moms been so upset since my birthday?”
“Yeah.”
“Why did you leave her, Dad? Why would you only be with her for just one night?”
“I didn’t want that. I wanted more but.. Gen said she wanted to work on things, and your mom told me to go.. River I’m sorry.”
“At least I get a brother or sister out of the deal…” River tried to see the silver lining.
“I’m not so sure. Your mom wasn’t sure she’d keep it..”
“She is.”
“Did she say that?” Jared started to sound hopeful.
“No, but she did complain about having another set of your eyes looking at her. Another reminder of how she fudged up, and how Genevieve would make it hard for her to enjoy what little time us kids would get with you. Trust me dad, she’s keeping it.”
Jared saw you at work from time to time and he’d glance your way but nothing more. You never even looked at him as far as he could tell, and it hurt. You seemed to be getting along fine without him once again, while he was a wreck and worried about how you were doing.
He was crossing the lot when he saw you carrying a large box towards the cars. “Hey!” He jogged over, “What are you doing?”
You glanced at him. “My job?” You continued walking, not stopping for him. He grabbed the box from you. “Hey!”
“You shouldn’t be carrying things around.” He pointed out. “Where am I taking this?”
You snatched the box back. “I’m not an invalid, Jared. I’m pregnant. I can carry a damn box.” You walked away from him.
“Come on, you haven’t talked to me for weeks… Can’t we go back to being friends?”
You stopped, and turned to him, regarding him for a minute. “I don’t know, Jared. Can we?”
He licked his lips. “Can we try?”
Nothing had really changed after that. Jared didn’t seem to want to make the first move to fix it, or didn’t know how to, and you felt since you were the one wronged, it shouldn’t fall on you. Eventually, you had to. You walked across the set to where he was talking to a costar. Sort of a love interest for the episode, only she seemed to be taking it off camera, or trying to.
“Hey.” You reached out and touched his back making him turn.
“Hey.” He gave you a soft smile. You motioned for him to follow you. “Yeah sure.”
“Uh, we’re in the middle of a conversation.”
“Yeah, I saw your conversation. Calm down, he’s married.” You rolled your eyes and started away.
“From what I hear, that didn’t stop you.”
The look on your face when you turned, had Jared grabbing hold of you and dragging you away without hesitation while you all but snarled at her. “You’re pregnant, calm down.”
“She’s fucking lucky I’m pregnant.” You shot at her with a glare before turning as he lead you a few feet away.
He chuckled. “You’re feisty when you’re hormonal. I like it.”
“Shut up.”
He smiled. “So, what did you need?”
“I have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning. 9:30. For the baby.”
“Shit.. I have to be on set by 6:30 tomorrow. I can’t make it.” He looked upset.
You scoffed. “Of course. Won’t even try. Whatever.” You turned and started to walk away.
“Y/N!” He called out.
“Just thought I’d give you the choice, Jared. You complained I didn’t do that enough.” You walked out the building and didn’t look back.
Jared was looking around for someone. “Hey!” He jogged over once he found them. “Tomorrow morning, I-”
“Yeah, you’re taking Y/N to the doctors, right?”
He froze. “You know?”
“Yeah, she came by about an hour ago asking about your schedule because she needed a ride. I told her we’d do Misha’s scenes first, and yours after to make it work.”
“She did that?”
“Mhmm.”
“Thanks…” He turned, walking away and feeling like an ass. He really only had to try, no wonder you were upset about it. You had already arranged everything for him.
“River!” You were moving around the house, trying to get River ready for school. “You better be out of bed!” You were in the kitchen looking in the fridge when you heard a knock on the door. When you opened it, you were surprised. “Jared? I thought you had to work.” Your voice held no happiness at seeing him as you stepped away from the door. “River, let’s go! You still have to pick what you want for breakfast!”
Stepping in, Jared shut the door behind him. “I-”
He was cut off by River. “Dad? You’re here early.”
“Brought you breakfast.” He smiled, and put the bag on the table.
“Sweet!” River hurried over and unpacked everything, grabbing a container of pancakes for himself. “Thanks dad!”
“No problem kid.” He smiled then turned to you. “Why didn’t you tell me you arranged everything so I could come?”
“Because it was your choice.” You opened the fridge again and looked in.
“I brought you breakfast too, you know.”
“Not hungry.” You mumbled, grabbing a juice box.
“You need to eat, mom.” River scolded you. “Don’t make me follow you around all day again.”
“Just get ready for school, River. I need to get ready too.” After opening the juice box, you walked out of the room sipping it and went to your bedroom.
Jared sighed and leaned on the counter. “She having a hard time again?”
“Again?” River looked up. “Dad it never stopped. She’s been like this since I got home from my birthday party. 10 weeks she’s been like this. She misses you, dad. She won’t admit it, but I know she does. I don’t think she realizes I can hear her crying at night..” He looked back down at his pancakes. “You need to try harder if you want to keep us around.”

Warning : Sad reader. River has a birthday wish.
Part 10 in ‘My son, Bringer of Storms’.
Jared took your advice. The next weekend he went home, and the boys spent time with his parents while he tried to work on things with Gen. Again. When he came back, you could tell it hadn’t gone as well as he had hoped it would. You had passed him in the lobby, and gave him a reassuring smile on your way out.
He was tired, and drained. Between work, and trying to make things work with everyone, he felt like he was running on empty. He came home after work that Wednesday to a note taped to his door that simply said “downstairs.”
With a groan, he headed down and knocked on your door. You answered, and a wonderful smell hit him. “Come on.” You smiled and led him in, letting him shut the door behind him.
“What’s up?”
“You’ve been pretty down, so your son decided to learn to cook your favorite home cooked meal. Or, at least what I remember it being.”
You both stepped into the kitchen, the table was all set, and River was putting the bread and butter on the table. “You did all this?” Jared looked around impressed.
“Mom had to help a little bit.” He looked up at his dad, hopeful this would help cheer him up. You smiled at River and moved to pull dinner out of the oven, where it was keeping warm.
Jared sat down where River told him to, and he smiled as you both got the last of the stuff out and set up. “It looks great, and smells amazing. Thank you, River.” River beamed with pride as he sat next to Jared.
“We made dessert too. River couldn’t decide, so cupcakes and cookies.” You smiled as you sat.
You never asked how things were going between him and Gen. It wasn’t really any of your business. And he knew where to find you if he ever wanted to talk it out.
As the days turned to weeks, he seemed to slowly cheer up a little and was going home more. But River didn’t give up on his mission.
Whenever he had Jared alone, he’d point out your haircut, your new shirt, new makeup, anything that could lead to him mentioning how beautiful you were. Anything to get his dad to look at you. And look he did. He’d glance over as you walked into the room with a soft smile on his face. That’s when River knew he’d won. At least when it came to Jared.
You were a whole other story. You knew what he was doing. His tactics were limited though. Jensen wouldn’t help him, and he couldn’t do anything that would get him into trouble and grounded again. So he tried talking Jared up to you, but you’d just ignore what he said and change the subject, or get up and walk away.
Then he tried inviting Jared over more, and then casually ‘remembering’ he had to do something for school, or say he was tired and go to bed early. Anything to get you two alone. And every time he’d get frustrated to find out Jared did not spend the night.
He was beginning to wonder if you had lied to him. If maybe you didn’t really still love Jared the way you said you did. He was awake much later than he should have been, and was trying to think of something. His 9th birthday was coming up, and while he didn’t believe that birthday candle wishes came true, he was willing to try. Sliding out of his bed, he opened his door and silently walked out to get a drink of water.
He froze outside your door when he heard you crying. It was open enough for him to see in. You were on your back your arm across your eyes and your phone to your ear. “I can’t do this, mom. I don’t know what to do with him anymore. Please, I just need a week or something… No, you don’t understand. He’s killing me. He keeps trying to push me and his dad together. I’m so tired of being alone, but I can’t have him and even if I found someone else now, River’s heart is set on his father. He’d hate me. I just need a break. I just need a few days to myself, where I don’t have those hazel eyes staring at me from both of them… Please?” He heard you sniffle, and even in the dark, he could see your lip quiver as you teared up more. “Forget it, mom.” You hung up and rolled to your side, crying into your pillow.
River watched for a moment, watched your body shake with each sob. He knew if he called Jared, he’d come running down the stairs. But that would probably just make it worse. He hung his head, and went back into his room, silently shutting the door. That’s when an idea hit him. It wouldn’t push you two together, but it would give you the opportunity to be alone without him forcing it.
“If there is a real Castiel out there, please, just let my mom be happy. She’s a good person. I’ll do anything, even really believe in you and go to church. I mean, if I have to..”
When you felt all cried out, you wiped your eyes, and opened your phone. Getting on twitter to try and distract yourself, you scanned friends posts, and a friend posting a picture of her smiling family had you tearing up again. You felt like you’d never have that.
Forever feeling alone. It’s been so long.
Hitting post, you wrapped yourself around the pillow again.
The next evening, you got a call from Sarah. “Hey, can I ask you something?”
“Of course. What’s up?”
“Do you have plans for Rivers party yet?”
“Uh, not really. We’re doing a small thing with his dad on his birthday, but that’s all we planned so far. He was deciding on what he wanted. I was thinking of renting out that video game place you had Chris’s party at last year.”
“Chris had an idea, can I run it past you?”
“Of course! He’d know best being River’s best friend.” You smiled, glad he had a friend like Chris.
“Well, you know where Jason works right?” You hummed an answer. A few times her oldest, Jason, had picked up newly released games for you. “Well Chris already asked, and Jason said he could. He wants to surprise River with a video game party here. Pizzas, and a sleepover. Jason is going to rent consoles and a bunch of games from work. It was just going to be Jason and Chris home with me that weekend, so I don’t mind having River over for the whole thing. It’ll keep Chris out of my ass.” She laughed.
“What poor sucker did you pawn the other two kids off on?”
“Their dad, finally.” She chuckled. “So what do you say? Chris is bouncing around next to me waiting for an answer.”
You smiled and nodded. “That would be great, Sarah. I can’t tell you how much I could use the break.”
“Talk to me when you have three more.” She laughed.
“Never going to happen.” You laughed. “Let me know what to bring-”
“Nothing.”
“I’m at least paying for the Pizza, Sarah. And some snacks, don’t be ridiculous.” She continued to protest, saying it was their gift to River, that he was like her fourth son that she gladly didn’t have to birth. “Either you let me pay for something, or I’ll owe you one so bad, that the next time you have a hot date, I’ll watch all your kids for free.”
“Oh sweetie, don’t make a promise you can’t keep. I’ll take you up on it right now.” You burst out laughing. “She said yes, Chris. Go figure out who you’re inviting.”
You heard his excitement and smiled. “Seriously, Sarah. Thanks for this.”
River’s actual birthday was on a Tuesday. Jared had facetimed with his boys for a bit so they could wish their big brother a happy birthday. Then, he dragged you both out for a birthday dinner, meeting Jensen, Misha, and Mark there. They were more than happy to celebrate with you, having gotten to know River a bit. River was excited to be having dinner with the Winchesters, an angel and the King of Hell. They even went so far as to order meals in character, making River laugh hysterically.
They were recognized a few times, but most people stayed away seeing that they were celebrating a child’s birthday. River made sure not to call Jared dad while out, knowing that if it got out, it might make things harder between him and Gen.
They spoiled him with awesome gifts, which you hadn’t been expecting. Then on the way out, they were stopped for pictures, and they were happy to oblige for a few minutes. River loved feeling so important, especially on his birthday.
“Good birthday?” Jared asked once you were in his car.
“Best ever!” River grinned. “Thanks dad.”
“Your oldest only turns 9 once.” Jared smiled and looked at you.
That Friday, you had spent the afternoon at Sarah’s. River was beyond excited with his party, and you made sure to take plenty of pictures, sending a few to Jared knowing he’d like to see them. As you ordered pizza, River pulled Chris aside. “Dude, this is awesome! You didn’t have to go all crazy with it.”
“Go big or go home, right? That’s what Jason says.” Chris laughed. “Think it’ll work? Is your dad even going to be here? Didn’t you say he usually goes away for weekends?”
River sighed. “I just have to hope he doesn’t go this weekend. Sometimes he doesn’t, so I might get lucky.. I’m going to wish really hard-”
“Dude! Don’t tell, or it won’t come true!”
“Alright, Pizza’s ordered!” You called out, and were met with the sound of 12 kids cheering.
You had stayed until the last kid who wasn’t sleeping over left and helped Sarah clean up. Afterwards, River all but shoved you out the front door telling you to go home and relax.
So here you were, relaxing on the couch in sweats and a tank after a long, hot shower that you took full advantage of. You grabbed the bag of candy you had snagged from Sarah’s and turned on the tv to search for a movie or something to watch. You settled in, when there was a knock at your door. Confused you turned and looked at it before getting up. Who could it be?
You unlocked the door and pulled it open. “Jared? What are you doing here?”

Part 6 in ‘My son, Bringer of Storms’.
Gen was drinking coffee, watching the boys eat their breakfast when her phone rang. “Hey Dani.” She smiled.
“Hi Aunty Dani!” The boys yelled.
She could hear Danneel laughing. “Tell the boys I said hi.”
“Aunty Dani says you better stop fooling around and eat your breakfast.”
Danneel laughed again. “Nice, Gen.”
Gen smiled. “What’s up?”
“Jared didn’t come home this weekend?”
Gen sighed. “No. I uh, I needed some time.” She wasn’t going to elaborate with the kids there, so she left it at that, knowing her friend would understand. “Why?”
“Cuz uhm..” She could hear her friend moving around, and then some typing. “I was asking Jensen, about the kid, and her. Apparently she’s really nice, and the kid is awesome-”
“I met him, Dani.” Gen said flatly. “He’s polite, he’s adorable.. He-” She sighed. “He looks like his dad.. Why are you telling me this?”
“Well, I looked her up. Don’t tell Jensen, he’ll grumble about me being an internet stalker or something, I’ll never hear the end of it. Anyways, I found her twitter, have you seen it?”
“Yeah, I uh.. I sort of did the same thing when I heard she was back.”
“No, Gen.. I mean today?”
“No..” She got up from her chair and looked at her boys. “No food fights.” She warned them with a smile before moving to the other room and grabbing the laptop.
“Food fights happening a lot these days?” Dani asked.
“Ever since Jensen started one at that barbecue two months ago, yes.”
Dani laughed. “Yeah, not the best influence.”
Gen sighed as she got on her twitter and went to find yours. “What am I looking for here? I haven’t been on her page in forever.”
“Picture, she uploaded it like 20 minutes ago. Gen-”
“Hang on.” She clicked onto your page and froze seeing the picture. “Oh..” She went silent.
“Gen, honey-”
“Thanks for calling, Dani..” Gen hung up her phone with a sigh.
“Mommy! ‘M done!”
“Go play for a bit.. I’ll clean up in a minute.” She saw her kids run off out of the corner of her eye, but she was focus on the picture.
Jared was smiling, listening to River talk about the night at his friends. He had a fork halfway to his mouth when his phone rang. Putting down the fork, he pulled out his phone. His whole face lighting up seeing it was Gen. “Hey baby.” He smiled. He hadn’t expected to hear from her, maybe she was calming down.
“What are you up to?”
“Eating breakfast. I’m glad you called, Gen.” River watched him with a smile of his own, and Jared pushed his chair back, holding up a finger to say ‘One minute’ before he left the room. “We can get through this, I’ll be home next weekend and-”
“I know you’re with her, Jared.”
“What?” You and River both glanced over towards the living room at him. “Gen, I’m not with her…”
“She posted a picture. Don’t worry, you can’t tell it’s you. But I knew when I saw it.”
He let out a breath. “Oh, I thought you meant- yeah, I’m here.. We’re having breakfast.”
“Why are you there, Jared? I tell you I need space so you run right to her?”
“Gen, are you being serious right now?”
“Are you fucking her?”
“Are you fucking kidding me!?” You looked over again, worried. “Why the hell would you even ask that?!”
“It’s early, I could tell from your hair and your shirt you weren’t awake long, and you’re there, making breakfast!”
“I came to see my fucking son, Gen! Because you didn’t fucking want me home. I miss my damn kids, so I came to see the one I could fucking see.” Jared was getting pissed, this was the second time he’d been accused of cheating by people closest to him. “Am I going to be accused of fucking her every time I come see my kid? I’m not fucking her, by the way. But it’s nice to know that’s what everyone fucking thinks of me.”
“River..” Your voice was low, and he looked from Jared to you. You motioned for him to go with your head. “Take your food to your room. You don’t need to hear this.” River nodded, and picked up his plate as he stood and left the room. You watched him move quietly through the living room and disappear down the hall.
“I swear to god, Gen.. Have I ever given you a reason to think I’d cheat on you!?”
“You hid your son from me, Jared.”
You watched as his shoulders fell, and he dropped to sit on your couch. “I’m sorry. I’ve said it a thousand times, and I’ll say it a thousand more. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about River being mine. This is all so new for me.. But I’d never cheat on you! I love you, Gen. You know that.”
“I feel like I don’t know you as well as I thought..”
“Jesus, Gen.” He hung his head, and you got up and moved past him to check on River. You could hear him talking quietly to her as you shut Rivers door.
“You okay?”
River looked up, he hadn’t eaten much since Jared picked up his phone. “I ruined his life, mom.”
“No baby, you didn’t.” You sat on the bed next to him. “Look at how happy he is to know you. I should have told him a long time ago. And he should have told Genevieve as soon as he found out. We screwed up, buddy. It’s kind of what adults do. We fuck up. Again and again.”
He leaned against you, and you put your arm around him after moving his plate to his nightstand. “I don’t want him upset. I want him happy, even if I can’t see him again. He has other kids, they need him more than me. If I’m the problem-”
“Oh River.” You cut him off and kissed the top of his head. “I promise you, you are not the problem. We’ll work it out, you won’t lose him.”
“He should go home to them, mom.” His arms went around your waist. “If she’ll take him back, they’ve never lived without a dad. I’ve never had a dad. I can do this, I can give him up for them.”
“River.” You made him look at you. “It’s his decision, and I know he doesn’t want to lose you again, so stop this. Okay? Stop with this selfless bull crap. You are the storm bringer. The destroyer of worlds. Bring the storm, baby. Let them know you aren’t going anywhere. You deserve him as much as they do. If you want him in your life, don’t let go. I already made that mistake. Don’t repeat it.” You kissed his forehead and held him tight. “Bring on the storm.”
He smiled, and let out a soft chuckle. “Thanks mom. It’s good to know if I ever became an evil super villain, you’d still support me.”
“Of course.” You smiled down at him. “Know why all the other bad guys fail?” He shook his head. “Because they don’t bring their moms. Nothing is more dangerous than a mom protecting their baby. I bet I could level a whole city if Superman took a swing at you.”
He laughed. “Superman isn’t real.”
“Batman then.” You kissed his forehead again.
When you walked back into the living room, Jared had his head in his hands. “You okay?”
He shook his head. “I think we might be done..” He answered softly, his voice so low you almost didn’t hear him.
“He wants you to go.”
Jared looked up, tears in his eyes. “What?!”
You moved to sit next to him. “He’s never had a dad until the last couple of months. Your kids have only been without you while you’re here working. He wants you to give him up if she’ll take you back. He wants you happy with your family.”
He was staring somewhere beside you. “What did you say to that?” He knew you well enough to know that would have pissed you off.
“I told him to bring the storm.” His eyes moved to meet yours. “He deserves you as much as they do. I told him to not let go, to fight and show them he’s not going anywhere. He’s your son, whether they like it or not.” Your jaw clenched. “I let him live without his father once. I will not let it happen again. Not like this.”
“So, he’s going to bring the storm? What does that even mean?”
“It means when he decides what he wants, he’ll do whatever it takes to get it.”

Part 5 in ‘My son, Bringer of Storms’.
The next Friday, you were standing in front of your fridge, glaring at it. “How dare you.” You mumbled. “I’m starving, and you might as well be empty.” Nothing looked appetizing enough. Shutting the fridge with a sigh, you turned to the counter, opened the bottom drawer, and pulled out some take-out menus.
You were bent over the counter flipping through them when you heard a knock at your door. “Coming!” When you pulled it open, you were surprised to see Jared. “Hey. I thought you were heading home, like usual?”
He shook his head. “Gen’s..” He shrugged. “She’s still pretty pissed at me. It was strongly hinted at that I should probably stay away for a bit.” He licked his lips.
“I’d say I’m sorry, but you kinda deserve that.”
He shot you a look, but nodded in agreement. “I won’t argue. I figured I’d see what you guys were up to.”
“Uh, River’s not home. He went to his friend Chris’s place right from school, dinner and a sleep over thing. Apparently some new video game came out, and Chris’s older brother works in a game store, so..”
“Oh..” Jared looked down and nodded a bit. You could see he was lonely, and upset.
You stepped aside a bit. “I’m hungry. Starving, really. Without River home to cook for, I forget to eat until my stomach starts digesting itself. I was thinking of ordering Chinese. Extra chicken soo guy. How about you treat me?”
He cocked an eyebrow. “Did you just ask me to buy you dinner?”
“You’re son eats me out of house and home. It’s the least you can do.” You smiled.
He laughed softly. “Yeah, I suppose it is. Just tell me where to call.” He stepped inside and you shut the door.
The evening went great with Jared. It was easy and light and fun. You were watching movies you had both already seen but it was more something to have on than anything else. Food came, and you set up on the couch, Jared paying while you grabbed beers out of the fridge.
You were mostly done eating when you realized Jared kept glancing at you. “What?” You wiped your face with a napkin. “Is there something-”
He shook his head and went back to the movie. After a few minutes of silence, he spoke without looking at you. “Can I ask you something?”
“Anything.” You took a bite of an egg roll.
“Can I get a full, honest answer?”
You looked over at him, and swallowed. “Of course.” You raised the egg roll to your mouth again when his question stopped you dead.
“Why did you really leave? Why never tell me, never come back? And why now?”
You put the egg roll down, and stared at the plate in your lap. “You wanted more that I was willing to give, Jared.”
“I loved you.” He looked over. “You told me you loved me.”
“I did.” You closed your eyes for a moment. Part of you still did, but you wouldn’t say it. Either he knew, or he didn’t. Saying it would just cause problems. Besides, your chance was gone. “But I didn’t want kids. I didn’t want marriage. We were young, Jared. I just wanted to be.”
“So you couldn’t stay with me? When you told me, I was fine with it. I wasn’t pushing you to it. I told you I’d wait..”
“That’s the problem. You’d wait.” Your eyes met his. “I didn’t want this, ever. I couldn’t see myself ever settling down, ever wanting kids. But you’d be there, always telling yourself ‘one day’. I didn’t see that day ever coming. I tried to tell you, but you’d just smile and say you loved me. I wasn’t what you wanted, Jared, not really. So I left. I wanted you to have the life you wanted, to be happy.”
You looked away from him, staring blankly down as your fingers played with the fork on your plate. The room was silent other than the soft clinking sound, and after a while, Jared took the plate from you and put it on the table.
“When you found out, why didn’t you call?” He asked softly.
You licked your lips, now staring at your hands as you played with your fingers. “What was I supposed to say? ‘Hey Jare. I know it’s been almost two months since I walked out on you, but hey, I’m pregnant with the kid you want more than anything. But don’t worry, I’ve booked an abortion. I might need a ride home after, though.’?”
“I would have gone with you. Been there for you. Held your hand, drove you home, taken care of you. Why didn’t you just call me?”
“In case I couldn’t go through with it.” A tear rolled down your cheek and fell off your chin.
He took your hands in one of his and reached over with the other to wipe away the tear. “All the more reason to have called, sweetheart.”
Your eyes squeezed shut hearing him calling you that again. “No. It was more reason to stay away.” He tilted your head up to make you look at him, you could see the confusion on his face. “If I had gone back, what would have happened?”
“We could ha-”
“We could have been a family?” He nodded. “You’re right, we could have been.”
“How is that bad? How is that something to avoid?”
“Think about it. Really think. Think how you would have been when you heard you were having a son.”
“I would have been fucking ecstatic.”
“Yeah. And I would have loved seeing you that happy. I’d do anything to see it. I’d tell you Yes.”
“So, marrying me was the problem?”
You sighed. “Think, Jared. You would have been so happy, and I’d do anything to keep you happy. I’d marry you, I’d have kids, we’d have a family. Why not, one was already done. I’d have no reason to say no. And maybe we could have been happy, maybe it would have been picture perfect. But maybe happy wouldn’t last. I didn’t want those things, remember. You did. So you’d be happy. And what if I started feeling trapped? Trapped in a marriage, trapped by kids. Think about how you’d feel knowing that. Knowing that you were happy but I wasn’t.”
“But you decided on your own to keep him. Why not at least come back then.”
You chuckled softly. “I called, you know. From the hospital after he was born. When I finally got to one, and we got checked out and everyone left the room. I picked up the phone and called.” The tears starting up again. “I hung up before you could answer. I couldn’t hear your voice. I knew if I did, I’d go back. You’d want to see him, and I’d go back once you did.”
He watched you as you pulled a hand from his, and wiped tears off your cheek. “I kept in touch with people from work. Just a few. I was told when you started seeing her. I was told to come back before I lost you. I heard about you getting married. I saw pictures. I saw how happy you were, how happy she was. That’s what you deserved, Jared. Not this, not me. I heard both times she got pregnant. I saw pictures of you with the boys, fuck they were small compared to you.” You chuckled, smiling at him. “But it made my chest ache. Because you were so happy, so in your element as a dad, and here I sat, with River long past that tiny stage. You never got to hold him, see him.. When he was born, it killed me. It was you looking up at me and screaming. Fuck, he looked so much like you.” You sniffled. “I wanted you there, so bad Jared. I was alone. But I couldn’t give you what you wanted. And I couldn’t give you that false hope. I’m sorry.”
“Why now?” He cupped your cheek and wiped away the tears.
“I- I dated, now and then, but nothing last. River was always my number 1, he always came first. It was River asking why he didn’t have a dad or step dad that made me realize why things weren’t lasting. I never got over it. I tried, fuck I tried. But how could I move on from you when I couldn’t even face you. So I came back. Part of me hoped I would see you, and I’d be okay. But you found out about River and things were okay for a bit, until shit hit the fan…”
“And now?”
“I don’t know. I’m so glad you’re in his life now, Jared. You have no idea how happy it makes me to see him look up to you. He’s looked up to you for years, and it hurt because he had no idea.. He’s so proud of you, proud to be your kid. I regret not giving him that sooner. But I’m also so scared. Gen’s not happy. And will he continue to be a secret? I mean, you’re a celebrity. If he’s a secret, it might hurt him again. If he’s not, my little boy becomes free reign for fans, and the media. I didn’t lie when I said I stayed away because I was scared. I’m scared of so much.”
He pulled you into a hug. “I understand.” He said softly. “And thank you.”
“For?” You asked, your voice muffled by his chest.
“Answering me. Telling me everything. I can see how hard it was.” His chin was on the top of your head. “I’m sorry you did it all alone. But at the same time, look how amazing he turned out because of it. You said he got things from me? Sweetheart, other than looks, it’s all you.”
You smiled to yourself and turned your head so your cheek was against his chest now. “Thanks Jared.”
He shifted his head and chuckled softly into your hair. “Just telling the truth. You did good.”
You were sitting at the kitchen table sipping on your coffee and watching Jared move around making breakfast when you heard the door open. “Mom! I’m home!”
“In here!” You turned towards the entry. You heard his bag hit the floor before he rounded the corner. “Have fun?”
He nodded, then glanced over at Jared. “Dad?”
Jared turned and smiled. “Hey, Buddy.”
“Why are you here? I thought you were going home?”
“Not this weekend.” Jared smiled, leaving it at that. “Besides, your mom missed you too much. Couldn’t just leave her to eat by herself, could I?”
River smiled, before moving over and hugging Jared. “I missed you too, Dad.” He chuckled.
Jared smiled, putting down the spatula that had been in his hands, and wrapping his arms around his son. “Did you eat?”
River nodded. “Yeah, but I could go for some of what you’re making. It smells good, I could smell it out in the hall.”
“Wanna help me finish up? You could probably hear your mother’s stomach out in the hall too.” Jared teased making River laugh.
You watched as they both moved around the kitchen. Picking up your phone, you snapped a picture. Jared’s face wasn’t visible, so you couldn’t really tell who he was just by looking. You opened twitter, and started to type out a caption not adding any tags or mentions.
Like father, like son. They’re making me breakfast, I could get use to this. Feeling the love.

Part 2 in ‘My son, Bringer of Storms’.
You stood there silently, and he waited. He waited for an answer that could change his life. You were staring somewhere between his eyes and the floor, this was a conversation you had been afraid to have for years. It was what had kept you from coming back for so long. “I should get dressed.”
He looked at you with disbelief. That was what you had to say? “Y/N-” He tried keeping his voice calm.
“Just.. let me get dressed, Jared. Please? And maybe a drink. Or ten.”
You turned and started for your room. “Just answer me! Is he mine!?” His voice was raised, and you turned quickly.
“Please..” You begged him, and motioned to River, who stirred at the sound of a raised voice. “We’ll go-”
“We’ll talk right here. Now.”
“At least let me get River to move to his room?”
Jared sighed. “Which room is his? I’ll carry him so he doesn’t have to wake up.” You pointed it out, and Jared moved to pick up the sleeping boy. You watched as he carried him off. When Jared came back in, you were sitting on the couch, beers on the table in front of you. “Is he mine?” Your eyes were on the floor as you nodded. “Then why did you leave?” You could hear his heart break in his voice.
“I didn’t know. I had no idea when I left. I found out when I was about 9 weeks.”
“You could have come back!” His voice was getting louder again. “I would have taken you back, you know that! I loved you! I wanted this!”
“I was scared, Jared. I didn’t want this. Remember? I wasn’t ready for this. I didn’t plan to keep him. But when I heard his heartbeat.. I couldn’t end it. I thought, adoption is good too. But then he got bigger, I saw him, I felt him, and I couldn’t. I couldn’t live without him.”
“You should have come back. You should have called.. How could you not tell me I have a son? Does he know?” You shook your head. “What does he know?”
“He knows I fucked up.” You answered, starting to cry. “He knows the truth as far as he needs to. His dad wanted a family, I didn’t so I left, and then I found out.”
“Doesn’t he ask? He’s fucking 8! Has he never asked who his dad is, or to meet me?”
“He did, once.” You sniffled. “Couple years ago. At a friend’s party, he saw kids and their dads and for the first time it hit him that he didn’t have that. That maybe he was missing out on something. He asked why it was always just the two of us. Why he didn’t have a dad, or at least a step-dad. That’s when I told him I fucked it all up, I never told you, and I never got over it.” You looked up and met his eyes. “I told him I knew how to get a hold of you if I needed to. If he really wanted me to. I didn’t tell him who you were but, I told him you had moved on, you had a family. You had just had Shep. He asked if you were happy.” You sighed and wiped away tears. “I told him you were, and he said not to call. He didn’t want to ruin anything for you, he just wanted to be sure you were happy. He’s a smart and sweet kid, Jared. He gets it from you.”
Jared sat next to you with a sigh, and pulled you into a hug, letting you cry against his chest. “You should have just come back. At any time over the last 9 years, you could have come back. It might not have been how I had wanted it, but I would have been there for you both. I would have been happy to. You should have come home when you found out.” He buried his face in your hair.
“I’m sorry.” Your arms went around him. “I’m sorry I never told you. I’m sorry I left. I’m so sorry Jared..”
“Sam Winchester is my dad?” You let go of Jared and looked up. Jared turned to see River standing in the hallway. He was staring at you both.
“Looks that way.” Jared gave him a small smile.
“Oh my god, I’ve got a step mom from hell..” River’s eyes went wide. “I mean, people talk about it, but my dad married the Demon Ruby.”
“River..” You couldn’t help the smile.
He walked over and stopped in front of Jared, a smile on his face. “It’s nice to finally meet you, Sir.” He held out his hand for Jared to shake. “My name is River Stormborn, the bringer of storms, and the destroyer of wombs.” He smirked.
“River!”
“It’s nice to meet you, Dad.”
Jared chuckled. “It’s good to meet you too, Bringer of Storms.” River grinned at that as Jared shook his hand. “I’m sorry we didn’t meet sooner.”
“I think this is perfect. Except for mom crying.” He moved to wrap his arms around your neck. “Now I understand why moms always upset after we watch Supernatural. It’s not good writing and gut wrenching drama. She just missed you.”
Jared watched your face over your sons shoulder, watched how you closed your eyes with a sigh and a small smile. “You’re too damn smart for your age, you know that?” You told him.
“I am my father’s son.” He grinned before letting you go. “Can I change my last name to Winchester?!”
“You know ‘Sam’ isn’t your father, right?”
“Stop being a killjoy mom.”
After River got to spend some time with Jared while he had some soup, he got shipped right back off to bed. He didn’t complain, since he was tired, and Jared promised to visit again since he lived right upstairs when he was in Vancouver.
“You did good.” Jared smiled. “He’s a good kid. Funny.” He chuckled.
“I did my best.” You smiled softly. “Please don’t hurt him, Jared.”
He furrowed his brow. “Why would I hurt him?”
You sighed. “I know you want to be in his life, but please don’t ever make promises you can’t keep.” He opened his mouth but you cut him off. “You have a family, we’re not it. Talk to them before you decide what happens next. Please? I don’t want him to get his hopes up, only to find out your family hates the very idea of him.”
“Gen wouldn’t-”
“I don’t know her, I don’t know that for sure. What I know is I need to protect him. I know this is all my fault, I’ve never been so sorry for anything in my life. Please, Jared.”
He nodded. “No promises it is. Can I come down and visit? Spend time with him when I’m here?”
“Of course.”
“Thank you.” He smiled before kissing your cheek. When he pulled away, your eyes met, and you both sat in silence for a moment. “I uh, I should go.” He motioned before getting up “I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“Yeah. Bye Jared.”
He gave you a small awkward wave before letting himself out. He stopped with his back against the door once he was in the hall. “How will I tell Gen?” He groaned.

You had been on set for a few hours now, and no one had even heard from Jared. You were keeping River distracted, which wasn’t hard. He was a huge fan of the show, so everything interested him. He had even followed a Boom guy around for about 20 minutes asking a million questions. He wanted to know every aspect of filming the show. Finally, Misha had offered to show him the set of the bunker, so that’s where you stood now.
“Hey.” Jensen came over. He had been on set much earlier than you filming, so you hadn’t seen him yet, until then.
“Hey.” You smiled.
“Still no word?”
You shrugged. “I guess not.”
“Wasn’t he suppose to leave with you? What happened?”
“We were heading out when we ran into Genevieve-”
“.. She’s here?”
You nodded. “Yeah, River was introducing himself to her when we got down into the lobby.” You glanced over to where River was now sword fighting Misha using Angel blades.
He got a worried look on his face. “Shit. How did she look? Like, emotion wise, pissed, happy?”
“Kinda pissed actually..” You furrowed your brow. “Jen, what’s going on?”
He shook his head. “Idiot. I told him. I told him tell her before she found out from someone else. Fuck.” He pulled out his phone and tried to call.
You put your hand over his phone, covering the screen. “What do you mean you told him to tell her? She didn’t know? About River?”
“No.. He never told her. She knew you were back, that you had a kid, but she had no idea he’s Jared’s.”
“Dad didn’t tell her about me?”
“You really need to stop sneaking up on people and listening to their conversations, River.” You turned and gave him a sad look.
“I thought he was proud of me..” River looked down at his feet.
“He is.” Jensen said softly. “He bragged about you in the bar one night.” Jensen smiled. “Told our friends they should meet you. Talked about how funny and smart you were.”
“He said he couldn’t wait to bring me to Texas one day, to meet Tom and Shep. I was excited. I always wanted brothers, and to see Texas..” He turned his eyes from Jensen to you. “I guess that’s not happening, huh mom?”
“Oh baby..” You pulled him closer, and hugged him, a hand on the back on his head stroking his hair. “We can go anywhere you want buddy. Even Texas.”
He shook his head. “It’s okay, mom. It’s just not the same.” Your heart broke, and you cursed Jared. Cursed yourself for thinking this could work, for letting your guard down. “Mom?”
“Hm?” you looked down at him.
“Can we go home?”
You nodded. “Of course, baby.”
“I’ll let them know.” Misha gave you a sad smile. “Go on.”
“Thanks.” You walked away with River, and arm around his shoulder. “I’m sorry today wasn’t as awesome as you expected..”
“Can we have pizza?”
“Anything you want, Bringer of Storms.”
“I called myself ‘Destroyer of worlds’ today.” He looked up as you opened the door to the lot outside. “I knew you wouldn’t want me saying ‘destroyer of wombs’ to Gen. I guess I really did destroy some worlds..”
You tightened your arm around him, kissed the top of his head and tried not to cry. “But you made mine worth something.” You reminded him.
You and River had spent Saturday just being lazy in pjs all day. You didn’t want to chance running into Jared, or Gen, so you hung out watching movies and eating takeout. Anything River wanted. You felt like you had so much heartache to make up for.
It was late that night, River in his bed already, when there was a knock on your door. You sighed, and got off the couch to answer. Opening the door, you were face to face with Jared. “Hey, I-”
“No.” Was all you said before shutting the door in his face.
He knocked again, but you ignored it, leaning your back on the door and staring at the ground. “Please? Can we just talk?”
“Mom?”
You looked up, and River was in the hallway. “Go to your room, River.”
“Mom, I-”
“I said go to your room.” You told him more firmly.
“Please, let me talk to him.” Came Jared’s voice on the other side of the door. “Let me talk to you. Please.”
You motioned for River to get moving, and he sighed before he turned and went back to his room. He could see how hard this was on you. You wait for the sound of his door, and the faint sound of him in his room before you turned and opened the door. “No.” You told Jared more firmly.
“I’m sorry.”
“You’re sorry? I only ever asked you for one thing. To not hurt him.”
“I never made promises-”
“You told him you’d take him to Texas, meet your family, his brothers. Jared, you didn’t even tell them about him. Do you know how much that hurt him? He’s so fucking proud of you, proud to be your son, and he thought you were proud of him.”
“I am. I-”
“You kept him a secret. I told you not to come into his life until you talked it out with Genevieve. You hurt him. The one thing you said you’d never do, you did. He’s my life, Jared. He’s all I have. He’s all I live for, and I watched my happy little guy, who finds the good in everything, find nothing but sadness. He feels like he destroyed your world, your family. Just leave us alone. Please.”
“He’s my son.” He pleaded. “Don’t force me out of his life again. Please. I fucked up. I-I didn’t know how to tell her. When I started dating her, people kept telling her if you came back, I’d leave her. I had to call her and tell her you were back. She was scared I’d leave her. I was scared she’d leave me. Like you did.” He looked down. “I just want to be a part of his life. I lost so much time already. At least let me tell him I’m sorry. I never meant to hurt him, I’m just so lost here, I don’t know what to do. Please, let me apologize. If he tells me to fuck off, I’ll go.”
“I want you to stay.”
“River! I told you to go to your room!” You tried to give him the best angry mom face you could muster, but you knew you failed.
He came and stood next to you, in front of Jared. “I want to try again, mom.” He was looking Jared right in the eyes. “He’s my dad, I’m the one he hurt, shouldn’t I get to decide?” You sighed and nodded more to yourself than anything. When he’s right, he’s right. “We’re going to re-introduce ourselves.” He told Jared. “Only this time, Gen will be there.”
“Slight problem with that..” Jared winced. “She was really pissed.. She’s gone. And I honestly, have no idea where we stand right now.”
“Hey! Asshole!” Jared turned, and you peeked around the door frame into the hall to see Jensen storming towards you. “There you are, I’ve been looking for you!”
Jared winced. “Oh shit.. I forgot. Gen called Dani as she stormed out..”
“You couldn’t just shit on your marriage huh, you had to shit on mine too? What the fuck Jare? Why did you tell Gen I knew?”
“Woah!” Jared held up his hands just as Jensen stopped right in front of him. “Dude, I didn’t say shit about you.”
“Care to tell me why I just got fucking chewed out by my wife then?”
“Uh…” River gave Jensen’s jacket a light tug. “That might have been me.” He gave Jensen the most innocent smile he could muster. “I sort of mentioned to Gen that you tell me I look like dad, but without the goofiness. But I thought she knew about me. I’m sorry.”
“Come on, kid. Don’t throw the puppy dog eyes at me. Your dad invented that shit, and it doesn’t work. I’m angry.” River threw in a quivering bottom lip. “Son of a bitch.” Jensen groaned, all but caving as his face softened. “But I’m still pissed at you.” He told Jared, and jabbed him with a finger. “Idiot.”
Jared had passed out on your couch watched a movie with River. River had fallen asleep against his side, so you just put a blanket over them before going to bed.
You were leaning on the counter in the morning, sipping tea when you heard a grumble coming from behind you. You turned and saw Jared shifting out from under River. “Morning sleeping beauty.” You chuckled at his bedhead.
He smirked as he rubbed a hand over his face, making his way to you. “Shut up.”
“Coffee?” He nodded. “Still take it the same?” He nodded again. You turned to start the coffee maker.
“You remember how I take my coffee?” He smiled.
“Of course. I made it for years. Between bringing you coffee at work, and at home.” You smiled at the memories. Remembering mornings spent in his shirts, bringing him coffee way too early in the morning while he got ready. Lips pressing against yours when you’d walk into the room. You swallowed, and tried to distract yourself.
He glanced up, pulled from his own memories. “Right.” He smiled.
You reached up for a mug and as you poured his coffee, he moved closer to you. It was easy for the two of you to fall back into it. Even with all the years that had passed, it was way too easy to smile up at him like you had. He had to stop himself from touching or kissing you, he couldn’t go that far back into the routine, not anymore. But he was more than happy with this. Having you and his son in his life, it was enough for the moment. Now he just needed to work on things with Gen.
River leaned over the back of the couch and watched. He watched how effortless it was for the two of you once you both relaxed and let go. He smiled knowing everything would be okay now.

Part 1 in ‘My son, Bringer of Storms’.
Making his way across the lot from his trailer to the set, Jared was looking down at his phone, smiling at the picture of his boys, when Jensen seemed to pop up out of nowhere. “Jesus, Jen..” He shot his friend a look. “What’s up?”
“Uh. Hang out out here with me for a bit?”
Jared furrowed his brow. “Dude, we just got called to set..”
“Yeah but.. You don’t want to go in there right now..” Jensen licked his lips, hoping he could convince Jared to stay out just a bit longer.
“What did you do?” Jared smiled.
“What? Nothing.” Jensen scoffed.
“I heard there’s new people working on set. Did you prank someone without me? This I gotta see.” He chuckled and pulled open the door.
“Fuck.” Jensen grumbled and followed him in.
“That one of the newbies?” He was smiling still, as he motioned to a woman standing about 10 feet away, her back to them.
“Kinda….” Jensen winced. This was exactly what he had been trying to avoid. He hoped to give Jared fair warning first. “Jare-” He started but was cut off by someone walking past.
“Hey Y/N! Welcome back.”
You turned, smile spread over your lips. “Morning. And thanks.”
“Y/N….” It flowed like a breath of fresh air out of his mouth.
You turned further, hearing his voice, your smile getting softer. “Hey, Jared.”
“You’re here.. Wh-when did you get back?” He asked moving closer. He hadn’t seen you since you had suddenly left years ago.
“Few days ago. I finally caved and begged for my job back.” You joked, but his expression didn’t change. “Hi, Jensen.” He gave you a smile in response.
“Y/N!?”
You turned towards the voice, then back to Jared. “I got to go. Work to do. Unlike you guys, I don’t get paid to just stand around and look good. It was good seeing you again Jared.” You gave Jensen a wave before turning and heading off.
“That’s why you tried to keep me outside?” Jared asked softly.
“Yeah, I had hoped to give you some warning.” Jensen sighed. “I wasn’t sure how you’d react to seeing her again.”
Lunch rolled around and your day had been awkward so far. You just wanted to sit on your own, eat and relax. But by the time you got the chance to, the tables were packed. You were considering going off to sit somewhere else when you felt eyes on you. Looking up, you spotted Jared and Jensen. Jensen was glancing up to see what his friend was so focused on, you sighed, averted your eyes and started to walk off to find somewhere quiet to eat.
“Hey..” You felt a hand on your arm as you moved past them. You looked down at Jared. “Sit.” He motioned to the space across from him and Jensen. “I haven’t seen you in years, 10 minutes of catching up won’t kill you.” He gave you that half smile that he always gave when he felt awkward. The one where the left side of his mouth curls up, and he looks adorable.
You licked your lips and nodded. “I guess I could survive it.” You moved back a step and sat down. It was beyond awkward. You really hope he didn’t drag up the past, but with the way he was looking at you, he might. Part of you had always regretted leaving like you did, leaving him, but it was done. You couldn’t change it. And he had long since moved on.
“Soo..” Jensen tried to kill the awkward silence. “They just hand you your job back?”
You shook your head. “No, not really. I have to work my way back up again. But, they were nice enough to give me my old salary back. Enough people remember me being a good, hard worker.” You smiled.
“That’s good.” He nodded. He glanced at Jared who was just staring at you, ignoring his food. You were awkwardly picking at yours, taking small bites. He sighed, shaking his head and went back to his lunch.
You let out a sigh of relief when your cellphone rang. “Hello?” Jared watched you, ducking his head slightly to take a bite after Jensen nudged him, but still he watched you, watched how your face changed to one of worry as you listened to the person on the other end. “Shit.. Uhm. I’m at work, so I’ll get there as soon as I can. Thanks for calling.”
You hung up, and stared at your plate for a sec before tucking your phone back into your pocket and standing. “Everything okay?” Jared asked.
“The one day I walk to work, I need my damn car..” You shook your head and scoffed. He cocked an eyebrow. “My kid. That was school, he’s puking up a storm so I need to go get him..” You grabbed your plate and started to walk away. “See ya around boys.” As much as you dreaded dealing with a sick kid, and puke, you were glad for this awkwardness to be over.
There was silence from Jared until after you discarded the uneaten food and plate. “I’ll drive you.” You turned to look at Jared, who was now standing and gathering his things. “I’m on break anyways. I can drive you.” He shrugged.
You glanced to Jensen, hoping he’d find a reason to keep Jared on set, but he just shrugged. “You don’t need to, I’ll be fine. I-”
“I insist.” He was next to you now, tossing out what he hadn’t eaten, which was almost his whole plate.
When you sighed, Jensen joined you both. “Guess I’ll come along for the ride.” If lunch was any indication, leaving the two of you alone would just drive Jared crazy, and drive you away.
Jared shot Jensen a look and was about to protest, he wanted to talk to you about what had happened, but you answered first. “Mkay.” You gave him a small smile. “Just let me go let them know I have to leave. Meet you by your car?” You asked Jared.
He nodded. “Do you know which car is mine?”
You shrugged as you started away. “I have a feeling if you stand next to it, I’ll find it.” You smiled.
Jensen sighed as you walked away. “You okay?” Jared just shrugged. It had to hurt him hearing you had a kid. “I’ll let em know we’ll be right back.” He walked off, and Jared sighed, put his hands in his pockets and headed for the parking lot.
You were in the car, almost at the school, and the drive was as awkward as lunch. “So, you had a kid huh. Son, daughter, how old?” Jensen looked back and smiled.
“Son.” You told him with a smile. Jared glanced back at you in the rear-view. “River. He’s 8.”
Jensen’s smile fell, and he glanced at Jared. “Huh..” He swallowed and looked out the window before talking to you again. “Can’t believe you named your kid River.” He teased, trying to keep the conversation moving.
“River Stormborn Y/L/N.” You chuckled.
“Stormborn?” He turned again.
You laughed. “I enjoy fantasy books.” You shrugged. “Besides, born during the biggest storm of the year. It seemed fitting. No power, and I didn’t even make it to the hospital. Paramedics had to help deliver at home, and they did not have an anesthesiologist with them. Fucking sucked.” Jared pulled up outside the school.
Neither of them spoke as you slipped out the back headed into the school. Jensen broke the silence when he saw you coming out. “Son of a bitch..”
Jared glanced at Jensen, then turned to you. His chest ached when he saw your arm around a too tall boy, with long shaggy brown hair. Almost the same cut as Jared’s. Jared pulled his eyes away as you got closer. Neither said anything as you pulled open the back door and you and your son slipped in. Jensen kept looking from Jared, to the pale kid in the back seat who was putting on his seat belt.
“Thank you for driving my mom to come get me.” He mumbled out as he clicked the buckle into place.
“No problem.” Jared mumbled in response. You glanced up, and could see the pain in Jared’s eyes when he glanced back in the rear-view.
You told Jared where you lived, and he nodded, starting the car back up and pulled out. It was then that your son started to look around. “Sup.” Jensen gave him a small smile.
When River looked to him, he froze for a minute. “You’re Dean Winchester..” Then he really took a good look around. “Are we going on a hunt!?” He started to look excited, and less like he was about to throw up. “This isn’t the Impala..”
You and Jensen laughed, even Jared smiled a bit. “The only place you’re going, is home to rest. And please hold in the puke until we get there.”
“This is Sammy’s car.” Jensen went into character, and motioned to Jared. “Sucks, right.”
“It’s no Impala, but it’s still pretty sweet.” River smiled.
“Kids a fan, huh.” Jensen smiled. “Maybe your mom can bring you to work one day. Meet everyone else.” Rivers face lit up and you nodded.
“Sam is his favorite Winchester. Hence the mini Sam look.”
Jared glanced back at that. “Why is Sam your favorite?”
“He’s really smart!” River smiled at him. “And big, and strong. He’s mom’s favorite too!” Jared glanced back at you, and you shrugged. Jensen kept the conversation going with River until the car stopped outside your building.
“Thanks again, Jared.” You smiled at him.
“Anytime.” He watched you both get out and head into the building. He stared for a bit then sighed. “What the fuck, Jensen..” He finally turned to his friend.
“I don’t know, man.”
“We were good, right? I thought we were good, I loved her. I-” He ran his fingers through his hair, trying to sort out his thoughts.
“I know. You told her you wanted a family, she didn’t. She left. And now..” He motioned to the door.
“This is so fucked up.” He groaned starting his car back up.
After pulling into the lot, he had told Jensen he just needed a minute. So here he sat, five minutes later alone, still in his car with his phone in his hand. He closed his eyes and finally hit the call button. “Hey baby.” He smiled hearing his wife’s voice.
“Jared, what’s wrong?”
He swallowed. “Remember, uhm. Remember when we first started dating.. Maybe a bit before, I don’t know… You heard about Y/N, around the set…” He had been open with her about you in the beginning. And he knew a few people had warned her if you came back, Jared might go back to you.
“Uh… Yeah.. Girl who left, not long before I started as Ruby, right?”
“Yeah..” He breathed out, looking down at his lap. He could hear Gen moving around.
“Yeah, I remember that. Jared-”
“She’s back, Gen.”
“..O-okay. Jared are you okay?” She sounded worried.
“No. She has a kid, Gen. He’s 8.” He hung his head, hearing silence on the other end.
Gen had called Daneel after talking to Jared. She needed a friend, needed someone to talk this out with. While she waited for her to get there, she did something she wasn’t particularly proud of. She googled you.
Social media accounts came up, of course. A facebook page, that Gen found was set to private. Then a twitter, that she clicked on. She saw that you were following various cast and crew, Jared included. She scrolled through tweets, and pictures, trying to get a feel for who you were. She saw you had just posted another tweet, and refreshed the page.
It was a picture of you and your son cuddled on the couch captioned “When a sick River Stormborn demands to binge watch something, you obey or he’ll unleash the storm. Lol #pukestorm.” She sighed looking at the picture.
You hopped in the shower after River fell asleep an episode and a half in. You were just stepping out when there was a knock on your door. Throwing on a bathrobe, you hurried out to get it. Tying it tight, you then reached for the door and froze when you saw who was on the other side. “Jared.. How did you..”
“You aren’t the only person on set who lives in this building. I live upstairs, so finding out which one was yours, was just a matter of checking the mailboxes.” He gave you an awkward smile.
“Oh..” Your voice was low, and you nodded. It made sense, you got the place through work, and a few other people you knew from set lived in the building. You should have guessed it was possible he would too.
“We need to talk. After all these years, I think you owe me at least that much.”
Your eyes met his, those beautiful hazel eyes that sometimes haunted your dreams. “Yeah, I guess I do.” You licked your lips. “Come on in.”
He glanced past you, looking to the couch where your son slept. He slowly stepped in, it was an uneasy step, he was too anxious.
“Can I get you anything?” You asked, shutting the door.
He shook his head. “I just need to know one thing. Is he mine?”
