@honeyseungz here's that "rant" you were promised lmfao
this is all gonna be pretty nonsensical because its all characterizations i made up in MY head but it's just . jay has loved and wanted heeseung for so long, but heeseung is so so scared of intimacy and vulnerability and pretty much the whole mortifying ordeal of being known in itself, really-- and so jay is pretty much convinced that heeseung doesn't want him or doesn't want to LOVE him, that he's scared of it. but jay is fine like that; he's fine where they are, fine loving heeseung in a way heeseung doesn't love him, or fine being brave where heeseung is still scared to be. there isn't anything more he wants from him, or from their relationship, not really—he just loves heeseung. that's that. and he knows that heeseung loves him too, but he's just scared—scared of being hurt. so he is content, waiting for heeseung, even if they never become anything more than friends, even if their relationship is all they will ever be.
but then heeseung gets sick, and jay, despite himself, hopes. heeseung wants him, heeseung needs him, heeseung calls for him, and he goes—and then heeseung loves him, or at least, it feels like he loves him, like he isn't scared anymore. every moment they're together there, jay keeps waiting for the ball to drop, for heeseung to take it all back and say that it's just the sickness, that he wants jay to leave and pretend this never even happened—but he doesn't. every moment they spend together, everything heeseung does only proves more and more that jay is the thing he wants, and in the end it is jay that leaves, not wanting to be around heeseung when the illusion breaks—but even in his own bed, sick and in pain, he still has hope that even though he never minded waiting, he won't have to anymore, all the same.
but then heeseung gets better. they all get better—fevers broken, escaped from the castle and brought into the city, where drunk-dazed takes place. and it's just the same as it ever was; heeseung, trying to be big and strong and never letting anyone see his weaknesses. heeseung, laughing and smiling with all of them and acting no differently with jay, acting like everything's normal. heeseung, who doesn't even remember, who thought it was a dream.
