JBF Greens Holiday Party: NYC
On Sunday, December 7, 2014, the James Beard Foundation hosted its 13th annual Greens Holiday Party for its Foodies Under 40 members. As a member of JBF’s Young Professionals Committee it was wonderful to see a house filled with food and wine enthusiasts come together to support the Foundation, all while having great fun and great food with great friends in the house that James built.
It was a special treat for me to see my friends Chef Preston Madson of Freemans and Chef Yvan Lemoine of Bodega Negra at Dream Downtown participate as featured chefs at this very special event. Chef Preston and his team created some incredibly delicious dishes for eager fans, including my favorites, the duck sausage with onions, pickled peppers, and fernet mustard on housemade buns and the tuna tartare with roasted poblano aïoli, pickled red onions, cilantro, and rice crisps. Chef Yvan worked with Executive Chef Michael Armstrong and his team at Bodega to create an unforgettable presentation of what I like to call the “drunken pig’s head!” Not only was this head eye-catching, but also it made for an absolutely delicious pork taco. Team Bodega also presented us with the yellowtail ceviche with mango, habanero, ginger–coconut sauce, and plantain chips and the oxtail sopes with chanterelles, roasted squash, crema, and shaved white truffles.

A big thanks to Preston and Yvan for being so supportive of the various charities I work with. I’m thrilled to have both very talented chefs return to the third annual From Farm to Tray sustainable food and wine benefit for Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen. Save the date, May 21, 2015, so you can personally meet our special chef friends Yvan and Preston, and Preston’s wife, Ginger Peirce head chef of ISA in Brooklyn, and enjoy their sustainable menu created to raise money to help fight hunger in NYC. Details and full chef lineup to be announced in 2015!
