brand new day review (with spoilers!!!)

this is my first review so dont judge!!!

overall I give the movie a 4/5.

what i noticed was how awkward some of the cgi looked (slo-mo shots in particular but also the fight between spidey & the hand).

everyone's acting was so good! I've never seen Sadie Sink in anything, but i think I've become a fan of hers now.

Zendaya portraying MJ being possessed so well it was terrifying!! I truly didnt know it wasnt the real MJ until the reveal.

Tom Holland, the man you are!! hes goofy, hes charming, hes beaten, and hes ANGRY. you feel every emotion just from his eyes and its crazy to his acting growth through Peter's characterization.

Now, actual plot points:

I understand introducing Jean Grey, but it kind of went nowhere? we learn about her sister and the experiments she went through. we learn that there are others like Jean and Peter, and then... she leaves? I guess we'll see more of her in future projects.

Frank being there confused me at first, but he was a great addition. Very much distant cousin/little cousin who looks up to him vibes between him and Peter. I haven't seen his show/special so forgive me, but I think this is the best performance Jon Bernthal has ever given.

The ending credit.... HELLO. #whatdatmean???? (miles...?)

Yelena popping up was unexpected but appreciated. We see little progress of the New Avengers. Most notably, her office. Her constantly comparing their jobs to potatoes is funny as she sees this whole ordeal of the DODC to be beneath her and the (new) avengers. Can't wait for more spidey x avengers content in the future.

Loved the friendship between Peter and deWolff was soooo adorable i loved it i love that Peter can charm anyone easily even someone he knows professionally. AH so cute.

speaking of.... AUNT MAY SCENES .... fuck !!! FUCK so good. she keeps him grounded and in turn he was able to do that for Jean ... such a beautiful moment.

loved loved loved the sequences where Peter becomes more "spider-like" and goes ham.. the black eyes, the ORGANIC webs.... the fight with Scorpion... brother i thought he was about to go to JAIL!!! Peter... your aura too strong... your smile too pretty.... they'll get you.

THE SHOT HEARD AROUND THE WORLD.... Peter no!!! him saying "I'm fine I'm fine" the way Aunt May tried to reassure him. mind you, hes actively bleeding out and trying to comfort Jean. frank feeling bad and CRYING... great, amazing. Jean using her powers to keep him alive until he was strong enough on his own... they're friends now!!

Peter yearning for his friends the whole movie... oof. Him following Ned and going to their party to just be near PEOPLE.. kill me. MJ saying she doesn't love Peter because she doesn't KNOW him.... omfg I would have hung myself right there... so many opportunities for them in the future (I hope). THE END.... Ned remembering the handshake and the "Peter..." BRO.. I fucking screamed holyyyyy shit!!!

Overall I can't wait for future marvel projects (even if it'll be kinda bad aka doomsday) but yay!!! love spidey love tom and all the actors Go watch it if you can!!!!!

Okay I gotta talk about Peter's I mean Spider-Man's relationship with the government in Brand New Day. There's two main things I wanna talk about, though the first one ended up not being as big of a deal as I thought. That was the line from the cop Peter worked with (who I cannot remember her name for the life of me, lemme look it up: Jean DeWolff! Huh, that name looks familiar...) "You almost killed a cop, this isn't you." I made sure to remember that like because I was going to write an angry one-star review beginning with that, but the rest of the film proved me wrong. That was the Spider-Man that the police (and Damage Control) wanted to work with and to exist, which is the antithesis of Peter's character and beliefs. Which, as we see, he did eventually fight back against them when he realized they were in the wrong, but maybe a little late.

The other, bigger thing that I wanted to talk about is how Peter invented the universal inhibitor. Maybe it's because I'm fresh off if watching X-Men '97 season 1, but my alarm bells were going off and I had chills every second that device was on the screen. If the MCU is going the direction that I believe it's going, then this inhibitor is going to be very important. Peter is already a mutant ally, one being a mutate himself and two how he interacts and treats Jean, but the fact that he is the inventor of one of the biggest things used to oppress mutants is not lost on me. It's chilling in a way that to be honest, I haven't quite figured out how to put into words yet. But I wouldn't be surprised if in a future X-Men movie, it's discovered thet Peter created the inhibitor and honestly, I wouldn't be able to defend him from the fallout coming his way. Jean was quick to forgive but I couldn't see, say, Logan being able to. For good reason. I'm excited to see Damage Control play a bigger part in the future, subduing mutants with the device that Peter selfishly made.

Hear me out but the way Peter was making Dewolff giggle and shit while on the phone? And her kids notice and immediately they're like, "is that Spiderman?"...👀👀 🤨

And later she puts her hand on his chest all worried when he's freaking out and says, "I can't protect you." 😔 😳

I'm just saying that if she was younger ppl would think she's his new love interest. Thats all I'm saying.
