if each remaining fellow contestant had The Thong (TM), who would they pick to put on the chopping block (assuming no deals)?

amber would pick thirteen, for sure. even putting personality aside, amber correctly sees her as her direct competition. her other pick depends on who she sees as the other strongest candidates. her willingness to team up with taub might suggest that she was never going to pick him anyway (lowering the opportunity cost of bargaining that option away)--or it could suggest she was planning to double cross him. after all, house very publicly kept him last episode for being "interesting," and they are kind of competing for the same lane. i could also see kutner, who she has been highkey beefing with ever since he got away with electrocuting the patient. i'm going to go with kutner, as her personal dislike of his chillness puts him over the edge (and taub bribed her). kutner would be weirdly flattered to be picked.

thirteen would hate having to make the decision. her conversation with cole suggests that she wants to pick the people she thinks least deserve to be there, but i think she could rationalize her way into picking amber and taub, who she also happens to like the least. she does respect amber as a doctor but (similar to house's explanation in games) thinks amber is there for the wrong reasons. she respects cole's integrity and kutner's creativity (sided with him on the bad blood theory) too much to pick them. whereas taub was very recently wrong (where she was right) for assuming that the patient's diagnosis must be related to his deformity, which smacks of judging the patient on a first impression.

kutner: he claims that he would pick the strongest candidates (who i think would be, by his own admission, thirteen and amber). but his reaction to cole picking him suggests that he wouldn't ultimately pick anyone he considers a friend--that he would have held this against cole even if house eliminated amber over him. plus, he cares the most about being liked after all's said and done. i can see him going with amber and taub, as in the event he's not eliminated, taub wouldn't hold it him against whereas thirteen and cole almost certainly would.

taub would start accepting bribes (look, he took a paycut!). upon realizing everyone else is broke, he would pick amber and thirteen. i think he respects amber as a doctor more than anyone else, but she is also his strongest competition in the cynical, pragmatic lane. and thirteen is the strongest candidate of the three others and (from taub's perspective) doesn't want it enough. however, in the event taub still teams up with amber, i would go with thirteen and cole because i can't see amber allowing taub to be the "winner" of the challenge without some kind of measure that prevents him from immediately betraying her.

cole (if he were making his own choices) would pick amber and taub. he's closest to kutner and thirteen, and i think (despite kutner's calculated self-deprecation), he appreciates that they deserve to be here.
