To my greatest bias wreckers ever, Happy Birthday Hoony! May you steal more hearts you beautiful frozen man 💕💕💕 Seriously cannot move on with the fact that he (and the rest of SechsKies) are pushing 40. photo credits to: Hoony World.
i'm not watching not me except vicariously thru several ppl on my dash but i had this thought and wanted to get it out lol but i've seen some ppl say that the cop betraying them was the easy way out/typical and idk maybe things are different in bls but for me it seems the opposite? like the path ppl wanted for him (to quit being a cop and join the gang or smth similar) is what usually happens in media (so the cop can become a ~clean~ hero)? so it seems more unique to do what they did. but again, idk i'm not actually watching every second of the show, just what gets giffed on here lmao
also from a writing perspective, taking the "easy" way isn't always a bad thing? the cop seems like the easiest for the antagonists to back into a corner bc they know him better - they know his weaknesses and that he's a weakness for the gang member which makes him a weakness for the gang. they know that he's caught in this powerless centerist place of being a part of the system and that alone makes him easier to manipulate bc he's inherently directly entangled in the messy corruption of that system? like from what i've seen i think i agree that they fumbled the pacing, but i think the decision to have him betray them was a p solid one honestly.
hey rc! yeah, i've seen you like & reblog the odd post. i know you've pretty much seen all the major plot points via tumblr but i actually would still recommend giving the show a proper watch. it's so so good best bl i've watched in a long time.
and i agree with you!
i think a lot of people were expecting all the pretty obvious signs of dan betraying the group to be red herrings, and for the traitor to be gumpa (i admit to being one of those ppl) simply because it's not common for a character from one of the main couples to betray their love interest in such a detrimental and irredeemable way, right near the end of the series. usually, it's all a misunderstanding that gets wrapped up neatly in a bow.
and, like you said, the typical 'the character working with the antagonists ends up turning his back on them and giving it all up for the protagonists' is actually something we see all the time.
i mean, if were talking in terms of what the writers have seemingly been working towards and hinting at throughout, then what we got in today's episode totally makes sense, and tbh, is a far more interesting, though admittedly very painful, outcome.
and yes, maybe it was the 'easier' for dan, but, that's because it was the way his character was written made it inevitable. it would be considered bad writing to ignore all of the obvious build-up, and character points to have it go the other way tbh.
he would never have been able to have it both ways.
yes, he was also the one that was closest to the antagonists. the weak link. the one they had the most leverage over. he's the one that, despite the trauma he's experienced, refused to leave a system that is rotten to the core. he was either forced to leave it behind (which again, based on the way he's been written throughout. i.e being a cop is his dream, his belief in the justice system ect. would not have fit his characterup until now) or be taken in by it's corruption.
i think a lot of people are just really hurt by this, because like i said, it's not common for a bl to have a well-loved couple not be endgame, let alone end in tragedy, so people are blaming the writing choices.
but yeah, it all makes sense for the characters when you think about it.

don't mind me, i'm just thinking about when (and why) joong-gil decided to start wearing gloves as part of his outfit when working 🙃🙃
they definitely weren't a part of the older joseon uniforms, and it seems like he only started doing it when they switched to western clothing
but i know we are all overthinking about why he wears them and when he chooses to take them off 🙈

randomly thinking about how ryung-gu had the title of "manager" on the RM team which literally consisted of just him and ryeon before junwoong showed up...
i imagine that he got the manager position simply bc he snarkily told ryeon and the director that "managing a team of one (myself) is really hard, so i should be promoted" or smth along that line.
something like "i'm really hard to manage."

Out of the Darkness
Post-production review of performing in DMT’s production of Jekyll & Hyde.
Spider and some of the Prostitutes from the Red Rat
Show week is always an intense experience, which is usually a mixture of emotions, adrenalin and endurance. The people around you are so important in making that experience not only bearable but fun as well. I have to take my show hat off to Devizes Musical Theatre (DMT) for the way things went.
Organisation What director Matt Dauncey did along with MD Susan Braunton and the production team was to organise everything in advance so that all the players knew what they were doing. We were properly prepared before the dress rehearsal and just had to adjust to wearing costumes and having an orchestra.
Performance Buzz The other vital ingredient that was needed was energy. The directors encouraged us, and the performers were supportive of each other. That meant we were halfway there. The other half of the energy came from the large audiences that attended and brought fresh eyes and reactions to each performance.
Results Having gone through a tech rehearsal and two dress rehearsals (one for each lead actor playing Jekyll/Hyde) the performances went without any major hitches. The energy didn’t let up either. By the end, we were still improving and the leads managed to avoid burn-out.
Memorable Moments 1) In one scene, Emma (played by Naomi Ibbetson) managed to call Jekyll ‘Herry’, which is the name of her real-life husband! Luckily the performers got through the scene without making the moment awkward.
2) Lord Savage has a line before he dies where he informs Sir Danvers of his next move. In the script it is “Aberdeen actually, I’ll been in the Highland club if you need me”. Each night Phil Greenaway came up with a different place and club name. His fictional tour took him to Bristol, Derby, Cardiff, Salisbury and a Yorkshire village where one of the cast members lives.
3) The Red Rat is the Brothel stage set where Jekyll (and later Hyde) spends time with Lucy Harris the prostitute. During the number, ‘Bring on the Men’, several prostitutes dance whilst potential male clients gawk and make dirty comments before being joined by the dancers. Over the course of the evenings, one particular group upped the acting pretty much every night. By Saturday, I dare say the advisory 14+ age range restriction was well earned!
Chorus Activity It was a delight to be in the chorus for this show. Although the musical is mainly focussed on the three leading roles, there is still a surprising amount to do. Façade and Murder, Murder are very good company numbers. Bring on the Men, the Engagement Party scene and the Wedding provides the chorus with actions and dance routines. There are also three or four off-stage choruses which are a demanding sing and add to the atmosphere for Jekyll and Lucy’s onstage struggles.
Conclusion With such a welcoming group this was a rare treat. The comradery offstage was matched by the dedication on it. What’s even more surprisingly is that whenever someone wasn’t required onstage, they still turned up to rehearsals, including the leads. This commitment continued until the end; Jekyll #2 (Andrew Curtis) performed in the Saturday matinee which allowed Jekyll#1 (Gareth Lloyd) to take a much-deserved rest, but he still stayed to watch the show. Jekyll #2 only had the one show, but Andrew was fully involved throughout the run, not only as understudy, but as the Priest in Act 2 each night and as a backstage helper.
I’ll miss the positive atmosphere that brought the group together. It gave the week momentum and kept the energy up. I’ll certainly be interested to see what shows DMT do next.
