Aotearoa Nativity at St Stephen’s Presbyterian Church, Jervois Road. “Inspired by the classic artwork of Peter Gossage, we have re-imagined the nativity as if it were set in early Aotearoa. Whilst historically inaccurate, per se, it is no less accurate than the tradition of the Euro-centric nativity that has been handed down to us. It’s purpose is to challenge us to think beyond Christianity as being a ‘European’ religion. T H E C O U N T D OW N C O U P L E It might be a bit far for Uncle Charles & Aunty Janet when they move to new digs in Henderson so before they officialLy become your proverbial Westie, they have been dropping in to see Nam and Annie at Fusion Cafe. Aunty Janet says she's always had great meals here. So she surprised us by ordering the Sizzling Steak (done rare) with crispy chips. Aunty must be reprising her role in the Countdown ad when she screams ”More steak!” to the hapless Uncle Charles as he shuffles to the supermarket at Aunty’s bidding. Uncle Charles always has the Banh Mi so he’s always happy, today with beef. I went for the traditional rice vermicelli with crispy chicken while the Countdown Couple shared the beef rice noodles with nước chấm. The Bún Chay rice vermicelli is one of the new Vietnamese dishes in Fusion’s winter menu, the other being the rice bowl. After a respite, the Countdown Couple were seduced by the charms of the banoffee pie. Had a totally forgettable meal at Sky City where Aunty Anne invited us for lunch. To rid the taste buds of that brown muck masquerading as gravy slathered on the chicken schnitzel, Uncle had to stop at Fusion Cafe on the way home and have their famed carrot cake. Aunty Janet loves the carrot cake and always has at least one in her regular forays to Herne Bay with Uncle Charles.
