A parallel that I realized today

You know how people are punished in jail? How they lose their freedom and are separated from the outside world? Well I think that our sin separated us from God in the same way. We sin and lose the freedom to be with and to talk directly to God. Sin is a sort of fetter, binding us to the world and human desires. We cannot unlock that fetter by ourselves. Jesus must do that. The only way to get out of jail is to either complete your sentence or to be bailed out. Jesus came and 'paid our 'bail'. He died so that we would not have to stay in jail (be a slave to our sin). If He had not come, we would have had to complete our sentence, would've had to perfectly follow the law in order to gain salvation (or our freedom from jail). Even after people leave jail, they are free but their lives are ruined. So they are never fully free from that punishment. In the same way, we can try and try to achieve the law, try to be perfect. And we cannot do that. Someone had to do that for us.
