There are a ton of people in the comments who are p*ssed at her for this. All she said was *no pictures*

She said don’t take photos of my newly released from captivity daughter on the day we already aren’t supposed to take photos

Honestly I think this was probably:

A. To protest that hamas keeps releasing hostages on our holy day of rest

B. A ploy to get her daughter home sooner- like it or not everyone from hamas to Knesset wants photos of the hostages returning “safe”

C. Maybe she really didn’t want to take pictures: because they’d make her sad to look back at, because she thinks it exploitative to photograph her daughter in that state, or yes really because it’s Shabbos and photos do not fall under “necessary to preserve life” or some other reason

I think that some of the negative comments might be a result of the secular/haredi divide. If you are a secular Israeli who thinks this woman is stupid and as one commenter on instagram said “this behavior should not be encouraged” stop for a second check your reading comprehension and ask yourself why a political conflict has made you dislike your fellow Jews and things you associate with them so much that you feel the need to say that a worried mother who found a way to both get her daughter home two days early and keep Shabbos is NUTS.

Today feels like the last day.

I don't know how else to explain it. There's this feeling that after today, there can't be a tomorrow. There can't be a year two. A year three.

Years from now, some Jewish kid will be asked by an older Jew, "What year were you born?" And they'll say 2023, and the asker's mind will go to what happened, wondering if they were born in the Before or in the After.

It feels like time ought to stop.

But it doesn't.

Time goes on, we go on.

We do not have the luxury of putting our lives on hold, we have to carry on, both for ourselves and for those who cannot.

October 7th was the darkest time in many of our lives. The year after it was a year of heartbreak and pain. However, it was also a year of strength.

We cried, we mourned, we hurt, and then we stood together.

The amount of Jewish pride, Jewish love, and Jewish unity (Jewnity?) we've witnessed this past year is a miracle in itself.

So remember, we've outlived all those who fought to destroy us, and we'll outlive them now too, together.

We do not forget, we do not move on, but we continue to move forward with the past ever present in our minds.

Am Yisrael Chai, then, now, and forever.

Today we mourn, tomorrow we rise up and continue to stand with our Jewish/Israeli family.

The enemies within – Australian Jews are endangered by hostile agents

Those who turn on their fellow Jews are sometimes called ‘Kapo’, but I prefer not to use the word, since those Jews who were forced to work for the Nazis often had no choice, while today’s anti-Jewish Jews seem to relish the opportunity.

More appropriate is the term, ‘unJews’, used by Natan Sharansky and Gil Troy. The Jerusalem Post said of anti-Zionist Jews, “They are as Jewish as the Westboro Baptist Church is Christian.”

An important lesson from October 7 has been the need for Jewish unity. While I may disagree with policies of other Jewish organisations from time to time, I try hard not to contribute to public disagreement. I know that I’m not alone.

The deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust has been a wake-up call for the 99%.

I have been inspired to see left-wing Jews who spent the prior year protesting Israel’s Government, now join hands with right-wing Jews.

The Jewish community is a broad tent. There is room for those who support and those who criticise the Israeli government and the Jewish establishment.

The line must be drawn at those who endanger our safety and make a mockery of the Holocaust.

Like the wicked son in the Pesach Seder, they have chosen to cut themselves off from the Jewish story and we must make it clear that they are not part of us.

Also i want to say that I know everything has been so scary lately but you're not alone! We are really uniting so much lately and I've been connecting to my Judaism more than ever. Sending you a lot of support and strength during this times and always

You know, everyone says we’re the bad guys. The “Zionists.” Those of us who have the chutzpah to believe that Jews deserve and need a homeland of our own, no more and no less than the Palestinians.

But it’s their side that dehumanizes Jews, sends death threats to Jews, yells at Jews who would be their allies but who refuse to apologize for their very existence as Jews, deliberately makes their spaces unsafe for Jews, and then gaslights us about it.

And then on our side, we have this. Beautiful, heartening messages reaching out to show us support, unity, empathy, and courage in the moments when we need it most. Messages from people we don’t even know, but that doesn’t matter. We know each other enough because we’re Jews. We share the experience of living in this world that the “good guys” are making so scary for us, where they won’t stop “defending humanity” and “protesting genocide” until every Jew is dead.

On our side, we reach out to each other just to say, “I see you. Thank you for existing as a Jew. Even if it doesn’t feel like much, it’s everything.”

Thank you for a message that reminds me that it really doesn’t matter if they call us the “bad guys.” I’ll take being a part of our Kehilah, part of Klal Yisrael, any day.

I understand why it's helpful to categorize Jewish Minhagim into Ashekanzi, Sephardi, Mizrachi, etc etc, but I also want to remind people to not be too rigid in their categorizations.

Most Chassidic Jews might be technically Ashkenazi, but their minhagim and mesorot have more in common with Sephardi minhagim than Ashkenazi.

Some Sephardi Jews ended up in Eastern Europe, and not all Eastern European Jews are Ashkenazi.

Sephardi and Mizrachi minhagim have blended a lot in areas of overlap, especially in North Africa and India.

B'nei Anusim who were originally descended from Sephardi Jews may convert with an Ashkenazi Rabbi, how would you label their minhagim?

I think it's helpful to have these categories, especially when discussing the wide variety of minhagim and practices, but it's important not to get too caught up in them. We're one people and one family at the end of the day.

The relief that four of the hostages were rescued and are now home in the loving embrace of their families and their tribe is overwhelming.

This older religious man stood in the Mahane Yehuda market in Jerusalem with a sign that has words of religious texts of which Rabbi Carlebach sang & asked for Ahavat Chinam (Jews loving each other freely without judgement) & said he isn't asking for charity. He put sweets for people to take.
