my version of the events at the end of jedi fallen order go as follows: when cal and trilla have their interaction where cal holds trilla's lightsaber and then passes out, allowing trilla to take the holocron, elani (makaria's former padawan) is there and trilla takes her too. her plan is to use elani to lure cere back to fortress inquisitorus and kill her. vader's plan is similar. he sends a force pulse out to makaria, making it sound like elani's being tortured. even though she knows it's a trap, she leaves rex and their kids to save her and face vader. she gets there just as vader's about to kill cal, elani, and cere in the corridor and fights vader. for a majority of the fight, they're an equal match, but once makaria starts to gain on him, vader shatters a window, flooding the corridor, using the chaos as his moment to escape. makaria is quick to hold the water back, but she knows that she can't hold it for long. she screams for elani to take a wounded cal and exhausted cere and leave, but elani refuses and runs forward to help her. makaria throws an arm back, causing elani to freeze. she then looks back at her padawan and gives her one last smile, "i never stopped believing in you, lani." then, with a final push, makaria sends elani, cal, and cere flying back and closes the door to the corridor behind them. with the slam and hiss of the door closing, makaria let go, allowing herself to be engulfed by the flooding water, at peace knowing her family and padawan would live on, safe from the empire's grasp. at least for a while.
