This time I make some sesame balls (Jian dui /煎堆).

I like peanut paste as the filling, and best to go along with some soybean milk or tea.

The recipe is quite straightforward, (only a few ingredients), but must be patient especially while frying them because they will not expand properly if the heat is too high.

Sesame Ball #煎堆 (Jian Dui) #JianDui is a type of fried Chinese pastry made from glutinous rice flour. The pastry is coated with sesame seeds on the outside and is crisp and chewy. Inside the pastry is a large hollow, caused by the expansion of the dough. The hollow of the pastry is filled with a filling usually consisting of lotus paste, or alternatively sweet black bean paste, or red bean paste.
