There's a few (many) things i don't like about how people mischaracterize Ren, and i need to rant about it for a little.

Warning: Spoilers for his Repeat and Debut routes below the cut!!

Ren is usually described as a ladies man, a womanizer, a flirt, and in many fics he's made out to be a heartless playboy who only thinks with his dick. Now, is it a lie that he is a ladies man? No, considering his own words in the first season ''I live to give love to the beautiful ladies'' (ep.2 14:19), but they never explain the full reasoning as to WHY he became like this in his late teen/early adult life.

The anime does little justice to talk about his past and that's a big reason as to why he's so mischaracterized so often, considering most of the fandom never even touched the games (i can't blame them, not only are the games expensive, but they're not localised and many of the fans don't speak japanese).

What the anime does touch on, is on his mother's death and the neglect he suffered by his father and older brother. But it's roughly spoken of during his two main episodes on the first two seasons (ep.4 - 1st season and ep.6 - 2nd season).

In Repeat, it's shown to us multiple times that Ren would rather hurt others (his ladies, or in other words, the fans he'd take on dates during his free time) than let his feelings cause him pain, he'd never let a relationship get too deep so he wouldn't end up heartbroken in the end. That was entirely due to two reasons:

A) His family (more specifically, his father) B) His butler, George (the person that actually raised him)

Ren is the third and youngest son of the Jinguji conglomerate, having a big age gap with his siblings (he was around nine or ten years old in the flashbacks shown in the anime, while Seeichirou was already an adult. Not only that but Ren himself states in the game ''my mother was quite old when she had me'') and in his own words ''A corporation only needs two sons, a third one is an extravagance'', making it clear he felt like an outsider in his own family due to him being the only one to not inherit anything from the business and being actively excluded due to his age.

And due to a little fact the anime never touches on.. His father died believing Ren was never his son. Due to the age Renge got pregnant at, he believed she had an affair and that Ren was not a Jinguji. That's also the reasoning as to why his father threw every single one of her belongings in the trash after her death, he was furious with her for supossedly cheating on him and for dying and leaving him alone, considering Seeichirou stated once that she was the ''love of our father's life''.

It's stated in one of the routes (i don't remember the exact one at the moment) that Seeichirou did a DNA test in secret and found out that Ren is indeed his fathers child, so the old man was clearly an ignorant fuck.

Now, how did Ren become a ladies man?

Through George. Simple as that.

George is actually Ren's uncle, considering that he is Renge's cousin, and he was tasked by her to take care of him since he was little. The man was clearly not fit to raise a child (if i'm not wrong, Ren said that he was an assassin? in one of the music 2 memorials, but i think he was just messing with Ranmaru..), but there was no one else to do it.

He raised Ren very roughly, even though he did care a lot for his nephew, he simply did not know how to raise a kid. So he thought Ren how to play darts (a very child friendly hobby, might i add ☝🏻 *sarcasm*), and how to flirt with women. And for a boy that grew up wanting affection from his family while never getting it, he quickly learned that flirting could give him what he desired so badly.

Due to his family's status, he began working as a model from a very young age, gathering many fans before he was even close to being an idol, making him be used to the constant attention.

Ren also had a few relatioships before entering Saotome, even though he'd hardly date the women he went out with, and the only reasoning i'm poiting this out is because he was groomed. He was 17 when he entered the academy, but he had dated Seira before we met him in the first game while she was already an adult (i believe she's around Ringo's age). He was 19 when we first hear about her and their past relationship in Debut, she is also stated to love ''attractive young men'', making it clear she groomed him when he was a teen and tried to get back with him in Debut thinking he was still the same easy to manipulate boy she met years prior.

We also learn that after his father died, he ''lost his way in life'', in his brothers words. He dropped out of high school at 16 and lived in a carefree maner, spending his days going on dates, speding money and wondering around without aim. Thus why his brother forced him to enter Saotome academy. Yet the way Seeichirou worded it made it seem like he wanted to use Ren as a comercial asset instead of trying to give his little brother a future, making Ren hate him until they were able to clear things off (season 2, ep.4 for the anime, march in his Repeat route).

Seeichirou had always seen how much Ren loved music, but he knew that with their father alive and controlling the family there was no way he could encourage Ren to persue a career as an idol, the old man would never allow that (both from the trauma of losing his wife who was an idol, and because he never saw Ren as his child).

In the end of his route in Repeat, after he wins the graduation audition, Haruka runs off scared of confessing her feeling after his captivating performance (he had rejected her before back in january, even though he was head over heels for her), and he runs after her. That's how we learn that Ren was actually starving for love and affection, craving a partner that loved and understood him, not someone that only saw him for his looks and family name. After he realized his feelings for her, he actually stopped having a group of fans follow him all the time, due to knowing she was quite jealous of his fans spending too much time with him and not wanting to upset his beloved (Haru-chan is rather possessive of him, i can't judge her though..).

He's very devoted the one person he falls in love with and makes it clear he only wants them for the rest of his life (he literally calls Haruka ''my future wife'' in the true love ending.. my man you just turned 18, calm down..).

Fun fact, he actually talks about this on an interview: 2. A phrase that will make you fall in love? - I don't really get told it often, but if someone says "You're interesting/funny", my heart will jump. It makes me feel like they were listening to what I had to say, and because I think saying 'you're interesting' is harder than saying 'you're cool'. If I were complimented like that, I'd soar. 9. Are Love and Marriage two different things? - Different. Doesn't it seem like it'd cause trouble to put them together? I think it's okay to have a lot of romances. It's part of experiencing life. Although he is a little (at times very) irresponsible and is extremely hard headed and an asshole when he wants to, he is a very sweet character and a very loving and caring partner, not to mention an incredible friend. We get to see him evolve and mature in the series, and learn that he was not selfish, just conflicted in life.

I adore him, and i truly hate to see him be labeled as a fuckboy.. But not everything in life is perfect, unfortunatelly.

♡ 100% carioca, the man was born and raised in Rio and no one can change my mind. He was probably raised in the suburbs too, going to a public school and spending his free time after class playing sports (mainly soccer) on a park close to school with his friends;

♡ He was that one boy that brought his guitar to school to play during breaks, while the teachers found it annoying, they couldn't complain since he was such a sweetheart and was always helping around;

♡ To me, Otoya would be one of the main characters of 'Malhação' (it was a teen focused tv show that ran from 1995 to 2020 with 27 seasons), but he would be specificaly on season 11 (2004). It just screams his vibes to me;

♡ Since Masato is canonically from Kyoto and loves the cold, i'd say he'd be from the southern region of the country, probably from Rio Grande do Sul. Since his culture is so important to his character as a whole, he is half japanese and half brazilian in this;

♡ It's canon that he went to an all boys private school, so we're keeping that here. He was always a huge introvert and would stuff his face on his books most of the time, the smartest student in all his classes too, always having the best grades amongs his peers. He wouldn't do many extracurriculars, probably just piano lessons and a literature club once a week, as he had to help his mother at home with the chores and caring for Mai;

♡ Just as he loves tea in the canon, he loves chimarrão and drinks it all the time. He has a very clean and simple diet on the daily, but he won't resist some grilled meat once in a while (he loves the fatty pieces dipped in farofa);

♡ He and his father are talking terms nowadays, but there was a time he straight up just ignored him because of how much they fought when Masa was younger, all because of the family's company;

♡ He and Ren are childhood friends here too, and Masato has a (huge) crush on him (he tries to deny that he ''may'' be into men, but we know better..);

♡ His family always spent the holidays in the mountains (serra gaúcha), he loves being amongst nature and still goes with them at least once a year;

➺ They also travel to Kyoto every december to enjoy the winter in Japan and see their extended family members (it's summer in Brazil from mid december until mid march).

♡ Just like Otoya, he went straight to university out of highschool, but he chose to study theater and is a very popular actor now, while also working as a model due to his beauty (Ringo's words people, but i wholeheartedly agree);

♡ Had to move to São Paulo for better work opportunities, he and Tokiya are neighbors. They have afternoon tea with freshly baked cakes to gossip like two old ladies during their days off;

➺ His apartment is so cozy and tidy, it's such a vibe. Most of his decor is very minimalist but with a touch of ''grandma's house'', lots of blues and white too. He has a vintage piano in his living room that he plays every day.

𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐮𝐤𝐢 (𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐥)

♡ A very loving gentle giant, lived in a farm during his childhood, loves animals and loves (tries) to cook.. He probably came from Minas Gerais. ♡ He studies music in university, since it's one of his biggest passions. He wanted to study gastronomy too, but his friends encouraged him to chase his passion;

♡ Loves to visit his grandmother and will happily spend the day in kitchen with her! He follows her orders and most dishes turn out perfectly fine, amazing even. His favorite to make with her is doce de leite, since it's just boiled milk and sugar until it turns into a caramel colored cream (it's usually made with canned condensed milk on a preassure cooker).. He's usually the one stirring it for hours though since he's much stronger than his grandma;

♡ Also, cheese addict. He loves, loves to snack on cheese with goiabada (it's a type of guava paste that's shaped into a block);

➺ If there's one recepy this man doesn't mess up is pão de queijo, but for anything else, keep him away from the kitchen. Please.

♡ If you think he's already affectionate, oh darling.. br!Natsuki is even worse (or better, depends on you). From the kisses on the cheeks as greetings, to hugs, to everything, you're not escaping this man;

♡ He's from São Paulo, i can't help it. Tokiya just gives me city boy vibes, and São Paulo is just perfect for him and his workaholic self. It's the brazillian version of the 2000s NY, if it makes sense;

♡ Tokiya had a very lonely childhood due to his parents working so much, so he would spend most of his time reading or training for his current/future roles, or in the few extracurriculars he did over the years (he never stayed in one for too long, thus how he learned to play so many instruments). ♡ He has been in the entertainment industry since his pre-teens, as he was scouted to be an actor from a very early age and then went on to become a singer at 17. ➺ Just like in canon, the agency he worked with chose to asign him a personality and used him as they pleased, to the point that they went completly against his wishes multiple times. He ended up leaving and finding a better agency.

♡ He went to university to study english literature (probably USP..?) and lives in capital São Paulo as an adult. Most of his off days are spent going to coffee shops for solo reading dates and on walks around the city, he also loves going to the museums and vintage markets (he tends to visit them mostly with Ren when he's in the city for a modeling gig);

➺ His apartment looks like a library, very minimalist but has a shit ton of plants.

♡ Loves to listen to MPB (música popular brasileira) whenever he can, especially when driving and cooking;

♡ Can't stand the heat well and is not a big fan of going to the beach at all, whenever he goes he stays under the sunshade while wearing one of those protective shirts against UV rays, he always carries a book with him too so he doesn't get bored;

♡ He loves, love, loves springtime. It's still very hot, but less than during the summer! So it's the perfect season for him to go out and enjoy the sunny days;

♡ Has a very clean diet and eats so many vegetables, but will kill for a plate of brigadeiro. Man just loves his chocolates but keeps himself on a limit for both his career and his health;

(fun fact: these little brigadeiro truffles with sprinkles are mostly party sweets, it's more common to just make it a little softer and put it on a plate to cool and eat by the spoonful. It's called brigadeiro de colher)

Lives a very relaxed life by the beach, even with his ridiculously busy schedule. Spends his mornings on the weekends sunbathing, he works out a lot thanks to Syo dragging him to gym every other day, so he can't help but want to show off a little..

➺ Just imagine, his tan skin glistening in the early morning sun, his hair a little wavy due to how often he goes to the beach and from how he styles it in the morning, his impecable outfits along with a citrusy cologne and that fucking smile all while he reads a book before class, I- *gnaws at the bars of my enclosure* ➺ Also, he loves to drive around seaside to relax after a busy day/week, the smell of the ocean calms him down.

♡ Is best friends with a flourist close to his apartment building due to how often he buys rose bouquets before he goes to dates;

♡ Ryuya is still his idol (and he will always be, let's be realistic here), and the reason why Syo wanted to become an actor for many, many years. But he chose another career in the end;

➺ I do hc that Ryuya and Yamato are both from Rio, so Syo met them after he moved there and started university. He had already been watching the movies Ryuya acted on for years by this point. Syo did manage to become his stylist after graduating.

♡ He lives in a beautiful apartment with the most gorgeous view of the sea from his balcony, has amazing taste in decor too;

♡ The last member of the beach trio, is the one doing all the planning days before they go out and keeps everything running. Also, he loves going on hikes and will drag Otoya and Ren with him without thinking twice;

➺ The same goes for the gym, Otoya somehow manages to escape, Ren however..

♡ Is the one that travels the most among the group, he loves getting to know more about his country's history and beauty;

♡ Bike owner n°2, also is an amazing mechanic and fixes Otoya's bike when he needs it. Has a Yamaha R15 V4, and would get the magenta model;

𝐂𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐥 (𝐂𝐚𝐢𝐨)

♡ Cecil was born in Belém (Pará). The state has borders with Amazonas (not the forest itself, the state. but Pará does house a good part of the forest in it's territory) and has deep indigenous roots, making it a big part of their culture;

➺ Canon wise, he come from Agnapolis, a country that is quite literally a desert, but Brazil has no deserts. So i had to adapt.

➺ He also loves sweets, but that's due to him spending too much time with Camus.

♡ He grew up knowing little to nothing of his half brother, only when he was a teen he was finally told about Otoya. Poor boy was so pissed that he was kept from his older sibling for so long;

♡ While he adores the heat, he's still not fond of water and does not like going to the beach, he only goes when he visits his brother and that's due to Otoya's powerful puppy eyes;

♡ Huge Rita Lee fan;

♡ Just like Natsuki, he went to university to study music. He had to move to a bigger city to persue his dream, even though he hates how noisy the city is, but he believes it was worth it;

➺ He worked helping a children's choir during his time in uni, the kids adored him and he still visits to this day.

♡ Cecil lives a very relaxed life as an adult, he has a beautiful place and spends his days writing songs to his hearts content;

♡ Adores reading national classics, he's an avid bookworm and has three full bookshelves at his place with very well loved books. His favorite is 'Vidas Secas' by Graciliano Ramos;
