In honor of Sanji's birthday, I was watching this video on how to make the glorious Strawhat bento box
When it hit me that it would be absolutely fitting for Sanji to make some bento boxes for the Seraphim with all their favorite foods! And because they're kids, he has the excuse to make it those like those absolutely precious character bentos that I so desperately want to make one of these days!
There's dino chicken nuggets for Gabe, an omurice duck for Gryphon, some sea king meat with a little garden salad for Thea, a little slice of Margherita pizza for Jimmy, teriyaki mushrooms with rice for Ashken, coconut Dress shrimp for Monty, milk and animal crackers for Nemo, onigiri for Lami.
And Jinta? Just like how Chopper got his own little compartment full of chocolate with the Whole Cake Island bento, Jinta gets a mini jellyfish pie with praline crumbled on top. Jinta is lowkey scared of Sanji because well, um. Their last encounter didn't exactly go well, and Sanji wants to make up for that.
Sanji's coveted pirate bentos are a thing of nutritious and delicious beauty. Anyone will tell you that really but no one more than the Strawhats themselves though the Seraphims are a solid second.
Served swiftly by the swirly seaside savant, they delight in the array of delicious dishes with vigorous and bombastic praise by…almost all of them. Jinta awkwardly watched his friends dig in while periodically staring back at his own plate. Ashken leaned over with rice stuck to every bit of his jaw.
“Do you not want it anymore? I mean I’ll take it if- OW! LAMI!”
“Give him a minute. And wipe your face, you’re disrespecting good rice.”
As he watch the two begin to squabble, Jinta barely registered the figure crouched in front of his chair.
“Did you want something else? I can whip up anything you like. No ask is too much.”
Jinta couldn’t meet the cook’s eyes. He felt scared due to that first meeting but also hypocritical since he was also technically trying to hurt not just him but the other strawhats too! He didn’t really know what to say to him or if he had the right to at all. Instead he began the exercise he was taught to calm him down: thinking of things he really likes!
His mama and papa, his friends, the sun pirates, Nika, the All Blue..
“The All Blue?! You know the All Blue??”
Jinta's eyes snapped up in horror only to be met with Sanji's delightfully surprised expression.
“I-Yes? I've read about it.”
“It’s pretty cool isn’t it?”
“Only the coolest! I really want to see one day!”
If possible, Sanji's eyes lit up as he (with slight hesitation) placed a hand on Jinta's shoulder. Weirdly, he didn’t feel scared.
“When I find it, I’ll be sure to invite you there!”
At that moment Sanji got called away by his captain and excused himself leaving Jinta with a farewell thrown over his shoulder and a backwards wave (and a spring in his step). Jinta couldn’t help but feel lighter himself. He picked up his pie with renewed vigour and took a bite.
As Sanji tried to wrangle Luffy away from the freshly stocked cooler, he could just barely make out the sound of Jinta's voice through a mouthful of food.
