Beyond The Gravestones: Chapter 10
(Johnlock fanfic)
“You came back earlier than I deduced you would.” Sherlock said, amused, “And just as drunk, if not more.”
“Git.” John muttered sleepily, and promptly rolled off the sofa. He hit the floor with a thump and lay there, shifting his head to rest it more comfortably.
“All right, John, come on.” he said softly, “Let’s get you sorted out. You’re in no state to sleep on the sofa tonight.”
He leant down and helped John up, slinging John’s arm around his shoulders. He half-carried, half-dragged him to his bedroom and gently dumped him on the bed.
“Where’s Rosie?” John asked.
“Spending the night with Molly. Even I can’t take care of two babies at once. I’ll be in the kitchen if you need anything.” He turned to go.
“No.” John said, sitting up, “Don’t go, please. Stay here.”
Sherlock sighed; there was no way he could resist John’s puppy face, so he lay down on the opposite end of the bed. As if on a sudden impulse, John shifted closer, putting his head on Sherlock’s chest and draping an arm over his stomach. As Sherlock let his hand softly graze John’s hair, he desperately tried to remember how to breathe. He turned his head and met John’s eyes, suddenly aware of how much he wanted to reach out and touch the crinkles by his eyes. Find out where they began, where they stopped, how deep they were…

I've been thinking a lot about why I like some fictional relationships with unhealthy or abusive elements, but hate it when others have a similar dynamic and, for me, I think it comes down to purpose. If the relationship is meant to be unhealthy, then I can let it slip some for the purpose of the narrative and examine the relationship in a different way. But, if the relationship is meant to be cute/sweet/the greatest think ever, then not only is it distracting, but it accidentally romanticizes those negative traits.
I'm a little bit confused as to why you'd think that certain parts of the show didn't allude to jlock? This isn't me demanding you ship it, lol, but all the little jokes about them being a couple and other small moments - is that not an allusion to a romance (even if that romance not real)?
If the romance alluded to isn’t real, it isn’t an allusion to an actual romance. Allusions refer to something, which means by extension, they refer to something that exists--they refer to the actual. If those jokes were allusions to anything, it was to the fact that readers and watchers of Sherlock Holmes have for decades wondered at the relationship between the two men. Once the first series aired, they probably alluded directly to the shippers of this iteration of Holmes and Watson.
Mrs. Hudson constantly assuming John and Sherlock were together is not an allusion to the relationship. It was an allusion to the shippers.
