Bachar
Ode to a fallen man. The John Bachar Memorial, Dike Wall, Mammoth Lakes, CA.
A legend and pioneer in the climbing world, John Bachar earned his legacy through his embrace of free soloing. Watch this retro video from the 70s of Bachar soloing in Joshua Tree.
Every day I go out and climb, like a dancer who works on his dance. He probably has some goals, some pieces he would like to perform, but his main goal is to work on his dance. This is how he expresses himself. Both he and I are interested in the same thing. It’s the dance that counts.
--John Bachar
A great article about the power of the great outdoors.
“On rock walls I found a literal void to stare into, again and again, in a game of terror and its suppression. I immersed myself in the madness of mountains, and came home with my pockets full of sanity.”
Thanks to Alex Honnold for sharing this gem.
So.... I dressed up as John Bachar to the Reel Rock Tour Valley Uprising showing. That is all.
"He was human. He fell, and I can’t condemn him for that."
