LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 3, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky has ordered that an Amended Complaint filed by Papa John’s founder and former Chairman and CEO John Schnatter must be unsealed, revealing shocking details from the case for the first time. The unredacted excerpts demonstrate how Laundry Service, a firm hired by Papa John’s to enhance its brand and that of the company founder, instead conspired to directly and willfully harm their image and brand.

According to the Amended Complaint, the details come from a “hot mic” conversation between the Laundry Service CEO, Jason Stein, and other firm personnel after concluding a conference call with Schnatter, in which the Papa John’s founder repeatedly expressed his disdain for racism. Clearly planning to reverse the meaning of Schnatter’s comments and expose a false version of them to the media, Stein and his colleagues discuss ways they can destroy the founder’s reputation and thus his namesake company’s brand, as reflected in the complaint.

Wow. Yet another wealthy, white male, Trump supporter who is against NFL players taking a knee, and who also just *coincidentally* happens to be a racist.

To be UTTERLY fair, in the Papa John case he used it as an example of things NOT to say. Like, that is the context of the slur, he used it as something not to say, people got offended, he stepped down from being the head of the company he founded. It's one of those signs of the time where some things are acceptable for only a certain set of the population to say, and if someone outside the group says it, even in saying 'Never say this' then they're marked as forever sin and context is nowhere.

I think that people are especially outraged about this, because of his past comments about football players taking a knee.

But I'm sorry, it was a dumb move of him to say the word. The context was that he was asked how he could distance himself from racist groups that were rallying in support of him and he replied with "Colonel Sanders called blacks n*****." He wasn't telling people that the word is bad, he was just trying to make himself look better in comparison to Colonel Sanders and say "Well, at least I'm not THAT bad". So while I don't think that he was trying to be hateful, he was being stupid and ignorant.
