Dean thought Sam was sleeping and his dad was into a hunt following witches, so John don't back soon in these days. Lee was who say: "Come on man, we're adults now just a shot!" one of my favorite chuck/john winchester parallels scene is when lucifer says "do you know how it is to argue with your father when your father is god? he will always think he's right. it's always 'it had to be done'" and dean says "isn't that how all dads behave?"

textually i feel like trans sam could definitely work, because of the “i hate it here this isn't how things are supposed to be and you need to let me be myself” thing with him and how John is inherently more protective of him and often put his needs before Dean’s. I feel as if it fits very well with his machismo thing he has going on because if Sam was trans then he probably would not see him as a man, and Dean would be conditioned and expected to do the same. Dean believes that he can support Sam quietly while also obeying and putting his father on a pedestal and Sam believes that Dean is only pretending to support him because he still views him as a little sister to be protected at all costs.

i firmly believe that the over protective nature of Dean when it comes to Sam would be something that comes from still having to undo things that were taught to him, whether that be taught by john or learned from environments that he was exposed to during his childhood.

Sam always trying to prove himself could also be seen as him overcoming internalized transphobia and him growing out his hair could be him finally letting go of the last small performance of masculinity that he believed he had to hold onto for other people and instead is masculine in his own way (emphasis on the IS masculine and not the performance of masculinity)

Thinking about dean getting his first period, scared and confused, he hides it. He hides it with excuses when sam asks him to go swimming, when daddy asks him why he isn't walking around in just his boxers like normal.
