Trying to get three more books on my Read list on Goodreads before the year comes to an end. I killed my goal. I am going to have to stop being a coward and go for 100 books for 2025. I have 300 in my TBR now.
Before I forget, John Marrs and Frieda McFadden are my authors for the year.
The Family Experiment was the bomb! Loved it. 5 million stars. Probably one of my favorite reads ever!
“Eight passengers from a wide range of ethnic and social backgrounds (each with their own secrets) have had their cars hijacked and are set on a collision course that will see them all die. That is, unless a jury and social media can come to a consensus about who deserves to live.”
This book ignited a new fear of mine with autonomous vehicles ever becoming a real life thing, especially if they do become mandatory. There’s many twist in this book, like Jude not being in the vehicle at all, Jude actually being Noah (the “good”, innocent brother), but actually being Alex (the mastermind brother behind all of this). Another twist for me was the Hackers being able to know every single little detail of your life. Plus, determining who is more deserving to live in any type of potential crash based off of your occupation, e.g., a doctor and police officer are about to crash then the doctor will survive, even though both are vital for society. This book was a page turner for me because of the intensity and twists, but not one that I wanted to sit and read hours upon hours. Nonetheless, a solid read, and my first John Marrs novel.
The One is a book from John Marrs - now playing on Netflix. This book is about the idea that everyone has a perfect genetic match and a company helps you find them - for a fee. There are several storylines that make this feel more like a collection of short stories with each story having a different resolution. There’s a serial killer, the scientist that discovered the gene, one who discovers something unexpected about his sexuality and another couple that fights attraction. Marrs does a nice job resolving the stories. I had a different idea for the serial killer but his worked 😱 I like the way Marrs stretches an idea just enough to make it seem believable. Do you believe there is one person out there for you? Meredith says that the first time she saw me she knew we would get married. And I was a mess. But here we are 39 years later better than ever. (I’m still a mess but it’s like all the ingredients are in the bowl to make the cake, but the kitchen is a little messy 👨🍳) Have you read this book or watched the show? #theone #johnmarrs #richlandlibrary #sciencefiction #bookstagram #bookshelves #booknerd #bookhoarder #bookworm #sodacityreads #bookish #bookreview #hardcover #novel #bookaddict #bookcover #bookhaul #literarycrimefiction #goodreads #homelibrary #fiction #crimefiction #thriller https://www.instagram.com/p/CNsG6eFrz4Y/?igshid=l8kb7glxsgy
The Minders is an intriguing and oddly-paced near-future thriller following the lives of five strangers whose secrets will send them headfirst into danger.
