I just usually stick to fandom ish here and then sometimes talk about life stuff. the life stuff is getting a bit big recently. cw: chronic illness and surgery

I'm getting a joint replaced in less than two months now. This is not the first time I've had a joint replaced. I have had two hips replaced when I was in my early 20s. I have been here before. I know it's hard. I know I can do it. I know it's worth it.

But this time I have kids. And my reaction to it is very high anxiety because I worry more if something goes wrong, how it would be for them. It isn't likely for something to go wrong. These are very common surgeries. They happen all the time. But they are major. And for the first time my guilt about having this illness and having kids is almost panic attack inducing.

I know I'll get through this. I know I'll manage this, but boy, does it feel like a lot looming in the near future now.

My left hip

I had my second hip replacement on Jan 11 (left side; right side was Sept 7). I contrived to keep the bone they excised - my femoral head, hip capsule and a bit of tendon (the op is almost entirely muscle preserving, but they do cut one tendon). I just had it scanned at very high rez at Thingergy, a local prop shop, and I've uploaded it to Thingiverse as a CC BY object and to the Internet Archive as a PD object. I'm having it cast in brass next week to turn into a custom cane topper.

Healing up great! 💪✨ Went out with Christina for Pokemon Go community day! It was a blast! I’m also alright at showering myself too! And with a little help I’m having a great hair day 😘 This has been the best surgery recovery yet, for sure.

Saw a lady today at the orthopedic doctor with a t-shirt that read I JUST HAD A JOINT replacement surgery. I thought that was pretty cute.
