What’s this? Er, I suppose it’s a soundtrack for a video... minus the video. (If anyone would like to remedy that, please feel free.) It’s really been just an excuse for me to faff around with quotes and music until I came up with something I liked.
The music is from the film Need for Speed (there were two reasons I sat down to watch that movie: Aaron Paul and Rami Malek), and it’s called California Crossing. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Need for Speed, considering it’s about illegal street racing, which I highly disapprove of (seriously, if you’re going to race, do it on private roads, don’t put innocent people in danger) and one of my favourite parts was the soundtrack, especially on this track. It’s soft, sweet and romantic, which is kind of how I interpret Sam and Josh’s relationship... eventually, once they’ve both done a lot of healing.
Is there a plot to this? Yes there is. It’s vague, but it roughly follows Josh’s rescue, everyone’s rehabilitation and eventually his reconciliation with Sam, at least, and them making peace with each other.
I know it seems a little strange that at one point Ashley goes on her schtick about Josh letting the whole group down and then in the very next “scene” she says she doesn't blame him for what happened. That's actually deliberate. See, when someone has betrayed you, there's often peaks and valleys to your anger, especially if they stay on your radar. My dad walked out on us several years ago and I've found that my anger at him has waxed and waned, mostly influenced by my mood, his position, what he's said or done and my knowledge about him. I figured Ashley's reaction to Josh would be similar, and that she may develop sympathy and understanding for him with time and knowledge of the full situation. I realise Ashley is a base breaking character as she can be both incredibly sweet and incredibly selfish – but I like to believe the best of her.
You might recognise a few people who don’t fit in the game. I don’t know who DB Sweeney (line taken from Aang) and Alfre Woodard (line taken from Plio) are meant to be, probably psychiatrists. If I do another of these I might take some lines from other places, maybe the Uncharted series as I like to imagine the two universes being connected.
So... yeah, enjoy. :)
