Watching happythankyoumoreplease and goddammit I think I'm in love with Josh Radner
Let me start off to say that we all did not expect that. In season nine we were given beautiful episodes, full of plot, character development, community. And we actually got glimpses of the mother, and we were nervous to see her, but we’re happy that we did.
Ted made it seem like she was perfect for him, or rather the writers did that. They were able to show us the vents in both the mother’s, and Ted’s, life. We saw very identical quirks, like knowing small pieces of something about everything in the freaking world, or claiming to have been a detective when they were younger. They couldn’t have known that we knew anything before they met.
So essentially, this roundabout was a complete waste of precious time and really good acting. This whole time I thought that Cristin Milioti was perfect. She was it for him, he was it for her, they were going to be happy together. Forever. But apparently it didn’t turn out that way. The mother, known as Tracy, died within probably a decade or so of their relationship. At the end of the story you learn that he met her at the train station, stole her umbrella and happened to return it to her, and pointed out the three things that were her’s in her roommate’s room.
Penny says, "The story is not about mom, it’s about aunt Robin. You hardly spoke about mom the whole time.” And Luke says, “yeah we know you have the hots for aunt Robin.”
And do you want to know what Ted does? What the Ted in the series finale does, is say, "Can you really?" The kids say to call her, and he says should I? Should I do it? And he finally complies to what his kids say and in the last scene we see him waving the blue French horn at Robin.
So let’s examine this: this idea or implication that Ted and Robin are back together. First: Ted loves wholeheartedly. He loves completely and unconditionally. He doesn’t know any other way. His love was never fragmented or faltered.
So when he loved Robin, he really loved Robin. When he really loved Stella, he really loved Stella. And we were also given a scene of him essentially letting go of Robin and letting her fly away.
It was a big deal because it let us know right away. It told us that he was ready. Ready to love again and to open his heart. The mother was coming very soon. And we were to be expecting her.
Finally in these last moments, we see things that we were hoping to see. Like Ted’s thirty-two second stare when he sees her onstage. Them planning their wedding together, and partaking in “the gang” events.
But we also see things that we weren’t. expecting.
EX: Robin and Barney getting a divorce after three years into their marriage. They knew what would’ve happened if Robin made it big. They both knew what to expect. They were each other's balance, and for once you really felt positive in life.
And Barney was a completely different person when it came to Robin. You can tell that he truly loved her, and would do anything for her. And his vows of being honest “‘cause he loved her”, those were the things that I needed to hear from someone like him. He burned the playbook because e didn’t need it anymore. He just needed that one woman in his life. He even said that he didn’t want Robin for family; he wanted Robin for who she was. For them to get a divorce was absurd to me.
For him to go back to his ways I thought, was even more absurd. But not only does he go back to his ways, he ends up getting someone pregnant. He has a child, and it’s not an adopted child with Robin. That’s an issue.
He became more wholesome of a person when he realized he loved Robin. He was willing to change who he was to better fit Robin's needs.
And the writers are saying that Barney did not change until Ellie was born. That is a bold faced lie.
Now on to Ted. Letting go of Robin means he can love the mother. And for a second we thought that he loved her and that she was really everything he needed. And even as we hoped for that to be enough, it was not enough for Ted. He still wanted Robin to himself. Cristin Milioti was his placeholder, a person he merely had kids with. He did not love her completely even though she really was his soulmate.
Another issue is Barney. His character has developed throughout season nine up to the finale. He has become someone that we can easily be in love with or be turned on by. We think about his stupid playbook and wonder which acts we would partake in. He is brought back down to not just any normal guy, but a bachelor. Someone who up till the very last second, loved the plethora of women.
But having conceived Ellie with a completely anonymous girl, changes his perspective on life. That’s not enough for me.
Ted’s wife just happening to be sick, and then him kind of sort of getting through it in six years is too fast.
Her children saying that they are okay with the longevity of her death. And for him to go see Robin after her death, is being more than okay. For his children to see it, it means that he was never really over Robin.
What about Robin’s job if her and Ted get together? Is she going to magically stop traveling? Does the no kid rule still apply? Because now there’s two.
What about Barney and Ted? How is the dynamic of their friendship going to be like? Can they even be friends after that, if that happens? Barney said that if Robin and him couldn’t work out, then he can’t work out with anyone. So how do you think that Barney will react to Ted being with Robin after all this time?
And Lily. Lily ended up being a housewife. Something she never wanted to be.
Everyone’s character just plummets at the end, and Ted is not done any justice. He seemed to have a heart and decently intellectual brain, but ended up becoming a womanizer to some extent.
And this is the end of how I met your mother. No take backs.
So school is basically closed for me. I'm just gonna read and watch this other Josh Radner movie. (Happythankyoumoreplease). And no Josh Radner is not replacing Jay Baruchel. I just have a weird liking for the movies he wrote...even though these only relate mostly to white people.
To all you How I Met Your Mother fans
I'm looking for a video I saw a month or two ago and it was a recap to the ENTIRE series, but it was narrated by a woman, who I believe was Cristin Milioti… I'm good with voices and I coulda sworn it was her. Well this video is her narrating the story of the show, and talks about, "the sluts your dad banged" and makes little comments… Anyone know what video I'm talking about?
"@JoshRadnor: The longer I'm in show business the more I realize what a genius move it was on Teller's part to just be quiet."
'I think one of the things I loved the most about being here was the feeling that anything was possible. It's just infinite choices ahead of you. You'd get out of school, and anything could happen. And then you do get out, and... life happens, you know'? Decisions get made. And then all those many choices you had in front of you are no longer really there. At a certain point, you just got to go, "Oh, I guess this is how its going down." And there's just something a little depressing about that.'
