Journaling for Mental Health: A Proven Tool for Healing and Well-Being | Solh Wellness
For the goals of self-expression, introspection, and personal development, journaling entails regularly recording thoughts, feelings, experiences, and observations in a personal diary or notebook.About 100 young adults participated in a study in 2006 to see how different writing assignments affected how uncomfortable they felt. The participants were told to doodle about it, write about their daily aims twice a week, or blog for 15 minutes each time.Particularly if they were extremely disturbed at the beginning of the study, those who journaled had a considerable reduction in symptoms like despair, anxiety, and fury. It's interesting to note that the majority of participants had little prior experience putting down their feelings, and a significant portion said doing so made them feel uncomfortable.
Health journals for the mind
The study's findings show that keeping a journal has many benefits and is essential to the process of emotional rehabilitation. Let's examine its advantages in more detail:
By allowing one to express overwhelming feelings and fears, journaling reduces stress.
Numerous health benefits, including fewer doctor visits related to stress, reduced blood pressure, improved mood, and greater general wellness, have been associated with journaling.
By providing a more objective perspective and facilitating cognitive distance from unpleasant ideas, journaling fosters psychological well-being.
Feelings can be embraced and absorbed through journaling, which reduces their intensity and improves emotional control.
In order to make wiser decisions, those who journal are able to get clarity and insight into their ideas, feelings, and desires.
Regular writing allows one to explore their preferences, concerns, dreams, and personal development, which promotes self-discovery and self-awareness.
Conclusion
Last but not least, journaling has been proven to be a successful strategy for fostering mental health and recovery. By offering us a place to express and let go of our feelings, journaling helps us cope with stress and its negative effects on our lives. It promotes introspection, which aids in our understanding of our identities, feelings, and experiences.

Is there a mood/symptom tracker app that you'd recommend? I find I always forget to log things and when I do remember to do that, I rarely have the energy to write lengthy explanations of how I feel like most journaling apps will make you do ://
yes oh my god Daylio app is what i use every day. you can create custom buttons and moods for how you're feeling and what you're experiencing and what you do etc (everyone sets it up differently), i even have my meds in there to make sure i remember to take them. i use the premium option so i have more to customise because i find it easier that way but most of the time just clicking on what i've been doing/experiencing does most of the journalling for me. there's an option to add notes and photos at the end too! i'll add some screenshots of mine so you can see some examples of what i have in my app:
i hope this helps!

Qeepsake, a journaling app that helps families capture and store memories, raises $2M
Qeepsake, a New York-based family journaling app, has raised $2 million in seed funding. Founded in 2015, Qeepsake sends its users daily questions via text or push notifications to encourage them to reflect on their day, children, parenting and more. Text, photo and video responses are then automatically organized into digital journals in Qeepsake’s app. The app was founded by two parents, Jeff…

Gratitude log and journaling
I used to do gratitude log and journaling but I stopped.
I tried to do morning pages - you wake up, grab notebook and pen and write until you feel like your mind is clean. It was fine but I used to write down 3-5 pages every morning which took me around 20-30mins. It's fine as it’s time for me but I felt bad to throw those pages to the bin and I didn’t feel like I wanted to keep them. I used to write down stuff that went through my mind. Similar to what meditation does but I haven’t tried meditation back then. I stopped writing my morning pages as I just felt like I wasn’t sure what goes thee, what not, how much should I go into the details...
Later I started to do gratitude log to feel better and be positive and it definitely helped me. Every evening after work I wrote at least 5 positive thoughts / things / moments from the day to my notepad that was laying next to my bed. Notepad gratitude log was apart of my night / evening routine. It was great and it helped me a lot but as I started to live with my boyfriend I stopped doing this gratitude log because of more reasons:
1) when I went to my boyfriends house for the weekend I just didn’t feel like taking my notepad and do this gratitude log as we usually came home late and I was tired to do my gratitude log
2) I moved to my boyfriends house (after some time) and I didn’t feel for it.
Sometimes we do gratitude log while laying in the bed in the evening - tell each other things we are grateful for from the day. But we stopped doing it too.
Gratitude log is amazing but I feel like there should be a better way how you can reflect your day. I just saw my friend Oliver sharing this app called Punkt which is one liner notepad. You can add feeling, emotions, relationship and other statuses there. It’s amazing as it’s just one line for the day.
Punkt is only for iOs but Oliver recommends TinyThoughts for Android
This app reminds me of teal notepad that was like a calendar for 5 years and you were writing one thought daily for 5 years and you could reflect how your days and life are changing over years.
I was about to try TinyThoughts but I looked at google play and found Daylio and it looks better as you can keep track of your moods which TinyThoughts can’t do.
Daylio is availabe for iOs and Androind
I will try Daylio and see if it help me or if I will be able to create a new habit and reflect my own life. I will keep you guys updated :)
Monday, june 18th. Image description: Cream colored background with art of cupped hands holding small blossoms. More blossoms are trailed about the page. Art of a girl in a sweater holding an open book to her chest eyes closed. A header is enclosed by a wreath of flowers and succulants. Image text reads: My Desires i want to work at the same store. I want to work hard. I want to prove myself and make friends. But I cant if I move every year. I want roots. I want to be gay. More and more our wants dont line up. End text.
Shoutout for the Stigma journaling app - currently free on the apple App Store. Basically a private journal where you can make as many entries as you want per day but they can only be 140 characters long. It also makes a neat word cloud, tracks moods and is just overall a nice app to use. Highly recommend it!
