Just thinking of having to break the news of Sashas death to her family. Connie and Jean, as heartbroken as they are, step up like the adults they've been forced to become at such a young age and go visit the Braus family. There's lots of crying from everyone and the boys break down and Lisa and Artur comfort them like Connie and Jean wanted to do for them. The Braus family is still comforted, knowing Sasha had such wonderful friends.
Content: 2.1k words. The return of dad Levi and the Ackerman family baking and filling eggs. Focuses on your daughter being adorable.
a/n- I'm so bad at deadlines, but please enjoy! Had fun picking out names...recognize any? 😉
"Hey, what's that I smell?" Levi asks after stepping into the kitchen.
"Daddy!" Your daughter squeals at seeing him. She's currently at the table covered in cookie batter or would've ran to him right there, as if she hadn't just seen him earlier that morning.
"Hi my little Mopsy." He smiles and comes over, kissing her head and leaning over her shoulder, using a nickname appropriate for the day.
"You started without me?" He looks to see you pulling out a batch of cookies to make way for the next tray.
"Sorry sweetheart, we're running a little behind. These all have to cool before we can frost them." You had sent him out before to get some last minute things you needed.
"We still need to do the eggs!" Your daughter says excitedly.
"Well, let me get started." Levi says, making a space on the counter for the new things he got from the store.
"Sweetie, can you start putting the batter on the new tray?" You sprayed the tray so nothing will stick and put it on the table. Your daughter is getting to be a pro at making cookies.
"What are you making?" Levi asks while popping open all the plastic eggs and grabbing the things to fill them.
"Carrot cake cookies and old fashion sugar cookies." You announce. One for the parents and one for the kids.
It's Easter weekend and in just a few hours all the parents and students in your six year old daughters class will be out on the lawn swapping treats and finding all the hidden eggs.
Earlier in the week the other parents had contributed small candies and toys to put in plastic eggs, and you took on the task of filling them. It was soon apparent there were not enough plastic eggs though, so Levi volunteered to go get more, along with a few other items.
Some of the kids in class believed in the Easter bunny, but most did not care where the presents came from as long as they came. Your daughter was convinced that her uncle Miche was the Easter bunny after he came over in costume last year and she figured out who was behind the mask. After a while she finally took to the idea that he was only a helper and agreed not to tell her friends what she knew. You're fairly sure she's mainly got the whole thing worked out already, just hasn't said anything.
Just last night you decided to also make a few batches of cookies too, even though the other parents told you not to worry since you were doing the eggs. But you couldn't help yourself, and your daughter wanted to contribute, and now you are running out of time. You still have to get out a little early to get the eggs over to the volunteers who are going to hide them while the kids are busy being entertained.
You finally pop the last batch of cookies in the oven and wash you and your daughter up and help Levi finish filling the eggs. It seems never ending when you realize your daughter is opening more than she's closing.
"What are you doing?" You question, laughing at her reaction to being caught.
"Nothing! Not taking anything out. Honest!" She gets back to helping.
"Okay okay, I believe you." You and Levi smile at each other and are soon finished and getting messy again, frosting all the cookies. Levi starts in on the dishes while you start loading up the car and get your daughter into her cute Easter outfit. Hopefully it won't get too dirty.
"Okay my girls. Ready?" Levi makes sure everyone is buckled in before he drives off, turning into the parking lot before long.
"Oh! Thank you Mrs Ackerman. And you baked? You're amazing!" Another early arriving mom helps you carry things inside.
"That she is." Levi says with pride making you playfully roll your eyes.
"And it's okay, that, she…" The other mom points to your daughter.
"Oh! Yes. She knows enough and won't say anything, and was very happy to help!" You beam as you speak of her, looking back to see father and daughter trailing behind having their own conversation. Your heart feels so full every time you think of how wonderful it is to have them both.
You give the filled plastic eggs to the volunteers to go out the backdoor with to start hiding them while more families come in the front door. Cookies and treats are put on long tables and plates are made up for everyone to take home and share. Classmates find each other and parents mingle.
"Is everyone ready for a visitor?" The teacher says out loud, getting all the kids attention as the Easter bunny comes in. Most the the kids go running. You can see your daughters eyes light up and quickly the look disappears.
"He's too short to be uncle Miche." She frowns.
"Shh!" Levi reminds her. No one else is supposed to know about that.
So she plays along and takes another of her shy friends hands and leads the way to the bunny.
You and Levi smile as she interacts with her classmates and plays it up, making sure everyone gets a turn. You couldn't be more proud.
"She's such a doll." One of the other parents say to you. Most of the kids in class have told their parents of the littlest Ackerman and how friendly she always is.
Obviously she gets that from her father. Along with the numerous eye rolls.
Soon the Easter bunny leads the way outside and hands each child a basket to collect eggs in, and all the parents watch as the kids race around to find the eggs that aren't hidden so much that they are unfindable.
It's a bit chaotic but parents and volunteers are all over making sure things are going well.
"Levi? I don't see her." You say, trying to spot your daughter in it all.
"She's somewhere, don't worry." He squeezes your hand.
Baskets start getting full and you finally see your daughter coming and notice hers is not overflowing. As she's coming forward you see her handing her eggs away to her classmates.
"This one has some candy, Megan." She puts a pink one in her friends basket.
"This one has chalk, Mia." There she goes with a yellow one.
"Here Rei, it's got hair bands." A purple one for another friend.
"Here's some stickers, Kat." A blue one is handed over.
"Jelly, here's one with a bracelet." And a green one, too.
"Jelly?" Levi whispers to you, getting your elbow. Yes, you know Jelly, and all the other kids.
There's multiple thanks you's and hugs exchanged between friends and you and Levi have the widest smiles as other parents comment on how sweet it all is.
"So that's what she was doing." Your daughter had been going through the eggs to try to figure out what was in which color so she could give away what she found to the friend that would like it the most. Then spent the entire time in the field gathering much less than any other child and still giving almost all of them away.
The kids are ushered back inside once everyone has come back and is happy and they continue trading the presents in the eggs while the adults start cleaning up and saving cookies for later.
You're daughter winds up with a couple opened eggs and presents the other kids put in her basket. You see there's some of her favorite things in there. Her generosity sparks it in those around her.
"That was very lovely of you." You turn in your seat once in the car.
She smiles while she sucks on a lollipop.
"What made you do that, Cottontail?" Levi keeps up with the bunny inspired nicknames today.
"I didn't need them. I wanted my friends to have them. If they don't have an uncle Miche, they might not get a lot tomorrow. But I know I will." She says with a grin.
"Is that so?" You laugh and Levi joins in.
Getting home you put things away and get your daughter in the bath while Levi makes dinner. You all change into sleepwear and get comfy on the couch watching Easter tv specials and snacking on the cookies.
"They're all so good!" Your mini me exclaims, taking small pieces of different ones.
"But yours is the best." Levi ruffles her hair and leans over to kiss your cheek, taking a bite of a carrot cake cookie.
Once she has gone to bed you put out the Easter basket that she's already expecting and include a few candy bars in a separate spot for you and Levi. Your daughter hates if either of you get left out.
In the morning she runs over to find a new bunny stuffed animal, coloring book, a jump rope, some other toys, plus a few larger candy bars of her own. Since it's a special occasion you allow a little more junk food.
She hangs onto her bunny, now named Lily and helps you and Levi in the kitchen getting breakfast and later cleaning up.
Chores before fun. That, she does get from her father.
When there's a knock on the door you laugh at seeing a very tall Easter bunny. "Honeybunny, you have a visitor." You call your daughter over as you open the door, and her legs move swiftly.
"Uncle Miche!" She tries to jump as high as she can and he catches her and lifts her up.
"It's the Easter bunny!" He insists underneath the costume.
"No!" She giggles as he removes the headpiece, proving her right.
Miche says hello to you and Levi, who knew he would be stopping by today. Miche loves doing this for her.
"I'm not the only one here." He smiles and brings her outside, you and Levi following.
"Oh no." You groan at seeing Jean, Connie and Sasha coming up the drive way with three huge Easter baskets full of sugar.
"Come on guys, what is this, Halloween?" Levi huffs at them.
"It's for the princess!" Connie insists, Sasha nodding her head in agreement, swapping her basket for the best six year old on the planet with Miche.
"We can share!" The little one is more mature than some of the adults you know.
"This your idea?" You ask Jean as you all head back inside.
"I was just going to do one." He shrugs. He can't stop those other fools, not that he was going to.
It's amazing that your daughter is such a well behaved and thoughtful kid considering all of her aunts and uncles spoil her as much as, if not more than her own parents. But her mom and dad rub off on her even more than you realize.
In everything they brought over, there's some things for a a small brunch around the kitchen table, ending with more cookies, all with Miche still in the suit and the bunny head on the couch.
"Say princess, wanna come with me and go see some of the neighbor kids?" Miche asks when you're done eating, grabbing the bunny head.
"Yeah!" She's ready to go, possibly because of all the sugar.
You see a lightbulb go off for her as she runs to start taking apart her baskets and put most of the candy in a pile.
"I don't need it." She says, while keeping a couple things for herself.
Connie and Sasha might get a little sad, but not only are you happy that the candy is leaving your house so soon, while granted, it's going to other kids houses, but because she's continuing to think of others.
Once she gets older, you'll worry about telling her not to give away all of her things, all of the time, because she might need them someday, but for today, no harm done.
You and Levi wave to the rest of the gang as they start off around the neighborhood, delighting the kids who sometimes run out in the street to greet them. Jean, Connie and Sasha hand out the candy while Miche has a firm grip on your daughters hand.
Settling on the couch again for a little quiet time, you see Levi looking at you fondly.
"What?" You ask with a smile.
"It's just, not only are you perfect, but you're raising the most wonderful little girl ever." You two are his whole world.
"Yeah? Well, I have a pretty amazing man by my side. I couldn't do it without you."
