An Easter Thank You

I look back over this Easter weekend and I want to thank some people because I'm feeling extremely blessed in what I get to do. Being thankful keeps my ego (my biggest weakness) in check because it reminds me that it's not about me and also stops the rot of false humility and negative self talk (which is also unhealthy ego) by helping me to remember that I do a decent job with what I'm given and that's interconnected with a whole bunch of great people.

A big thanks to John Cowan for being busy this Easter so I could end up hosting his show on Newstalk ZB on Sunday night. I'm sure he had other reasons, but it worked for me. It's an honour to have been able to fill in for John a couple of times now. I also want to say thanks to Bishop Justin Duckworth for being a willing guest on the show and for providing a fabulous chat during the hour we were on air. It was a privilege to interview him. I''m a talker. Justin is a doer.

Also thanks has to go to the Life FM team. I was honoured to be called up by Clint and Bjorn who asked for my comment about Easter on Life FM's breakfast show and it was a pleasure to appear as a guest on the panel for The Forum alongside my good friend, Dale. George did a fabulous job of directing a great conversation. I'll put that on this blog sometime so you can hear it.

Also, to the Cession crew who set up our faith community's Stations of the Cross exhibit this year, you provided a great space where I could pause in the busyness of my Easter work and reflect on what it's all about. You gave me the personal space I needed for a moment and thanks for using my photos from Old Jerusalem in the exhibit.

And my wife, Melva, who acts as the backbone so I can do all of it - flippin phenomenal - what a woman!

All in all the weekend was a great effort. Hopefully more people have made the link between the Easter story, hope, God's work to draw us to himself and then how that compels us to act in the world around us towards justice.

May we be Easter people all year round.
