JUNE AND JULY READING SUMMARY
I forgot to post June’s reading summary at the end of June, so I figured I’d combined both its reading summary with July’s. July starts with Howl’s Moving Castle, so I had a 2 book increase for July than June. To be fair, Nevernight and Godsgrave are pretty thick books so between those two and Darkdawn, they took up majority of June. I also learned that I really don’t care for Jay Kristoff as an author, outside of his books he does with someone else. Darkdawn was a massive disappointment for me, which shouldn’t have been that big of a surprise considering after re-reading the first two, I knew I was going to end up disappointed. I could write a post about Jay Kristoff’s treatment of his characters of color, but I’m not going to get into all of that because it took me at least a week to get over the sheer anger over his treatment of Tric in Darkdawn. And Eclipse. All in all, fuck Jay Kristoff forever.
Outside giving Darkdawn 3 stars (which was higher than I wanted but I was trying to be objective) as well as the random Kindle Prime book, most of these were 4 stars and higher. I think I’m going to give contemporary YA a break because as I get older, I find myself unable to really relate to the characters. YA fantasy or sci-fi or anything outside of contemporary I find I enjoy more, mainly because they’re not usually bogged down with typical teenage drama. I just don’t care for it much anymore.
August is...well..August. I have a week off scheduled after not having taken any vacation since November of last year. I’m hoping to do some stuff around the house, like get my new book cases that I bought LAST JULY up finally. I got some ARCs I need to read. I gotta get caught up on my June ONTD Reading challenge as well as find a book for August. We’ll see what happens.
