Trying to recover from trauma. Helping others. Taking accountability and apologizing when you make a mistake or hurt somebody. Respecting yourself and your boundaries. Forgiving people who hurt you so that you can move forward with a clean slate and no resentments. All very hot things to do

I wish people who are judgmental about addiction understood how much of a real life fucking horror story it is and that it’s not a choice among many many other things. Soooo many people are so ignorant, uneducated and just straight up malicious about it. They are evil hateful and rude concerning the subject of addiction and act this way directly towards addicts and their loved ones. It is the most disgusting, pathetic thing. If you really have to think and act this way, (you don’t) keep it to yourself and leave us out of it. If you think addicts are evil or bad people or that it’s okay to be an awful person to us out of your own ignorance, misunderstandings, generalizations and prejudices, you should not only seriously educate yourself and deeply examine your own personal internal values but also keep in mind that you have vices too. Everybody has their little things they do to cope and to attempt to kill their sadness. Just because you subjectively deem somebody else’s vice as “bad” or immoral or whatever because of legality and/or lack of intelligence and empathy on your part does not mean that any of those things are true or that you have the right to put down anybody else based on their vices and the ways that they have tried to survive. Addicts need and deserve love, compassion and kindness just as much as you or anybody else.

Yes, there are bad people in the world, but there are also so many good people. I know it can be scary to put yourself out there and form new relationships when you have been repeatedly hurt by others, but if you don’t at least try you won’t have the opportunity to meet those good people.

It’s okay to not have all the answers. Learning and growing is a part of being a human, nobody knows everything and there are always more things to learn and new ways to grow. Not knowing something doesn’t mean you are any less intelligent than anyone else, you just haven’t learned it yet. And that’s okay.
