Q: What is your favourite fairy tale to read retellings of? I love seeing new takes on all the fairy tales, but the ones that automatically get added to my TBR pile are retellings of Beauty and the Beast and the Six Swans. A few close-ups from my latest painting, the Tale of the Swan Brothers! This one was inspired by the need to do something different with color (you know I love my saturated golds a little to much). This idea from my sketchbook turned out to be a good fit for a much more subtle color palette, and I love how it turned out. It was very satisfying to paint the clean white feathers of the swans that just about glow.

I entered a contest to win a signed copy of one of my favorite books. The task I chose was to design yourself as a warrior from the story.

I chose a fox as the animal to represent me. A while ago I read the Fox version of the Love graphic novels. I related to that tremendously and the more I think about it, the more it seems like that is why I chose that particular animal for this.

It was great to work on because I don't feel strong or warrior-like at all and to try to draw myself that way was interesting . . . in the feelings that it brought out in me.

Anyway! I did manage to win a copy of the book and it arrived today. :)

Marillier is one of my happy places although I’m a bit sad that this is the last of the Sevenwaters saga and I’ll have to say goodbye to these characters; Sorcha, her daughters and granddaughters... . . Q: Do you still book blog? Have you ever had a book blog? I'm asking again because I need to follow more. I miss reading blogs and so many of my old favourites don't post much anymore (if at all) because the audience is so diminished now. Almost all of the old audience has migrated to other social media platforms. Blogging was always my favourite book community platform honestly. I started in 2010 on a small blog of my own that no longer exists. Then in 2013 I started to contributing to a blog called Readers in Wonderland (which also no longer exists because my coblogger and I got busy and missed the domain renewal due date in 2018 😭) and became more active on Tumblr (an account that still exists but I always forget to update 😅). Last year I finally got back into it, by contributing to @happyindulgence book blog, and it's been so wonderful to be back.
