Zoe is actually not a good character. She's incredibly boring and could have had a far more interesting arc if the writers continued to follow her "acting in real life" story line after her first ep.
You know, I thought I talked about Zoe Lee before.
But I guess I havent. So Allow me to put it into perspective my thoughts on Zoe as a character.
I like her design, and the rest of her is... luke warm.
She isnt a bad character, but she isnt a good character. She simply is... inoffensive. (I have compared her to season 2/3 Luka and I still think that).
She is simply 'good chloé'
We know this because.
1. Chloé's half sister: Meaning that she grew up having the same awful mother
2. Got in trouble for acting a certain way, and tries to fix it but has trouble doing so
3. Gets to be the new bee.
4. Was mean to marinette but Marinette forgives her.
The thing is, Zoé's character could have worked, if she was introduced in season 2 and had time to develop. But like with a lot of things in season 4, the pacing for it has been awful. She becomes the bee in one episode after he debut. That is the record for fastest hero giving. Alya was the first temp hero and she needed at least a season and 1/2 before she got the fox.
Thomas simply expects us to be completely okay with her getting the bee miraculous because 'Chloé is awful'.
Season 4 has Chloé basically become a parody of herself back in season 1. (which is suppose to have her be meaner, but I just keep thinking is hilarious).
Now there is a LOT of crap that went behind the scenes. Like how most of the writers loved Chloé (including Zag) and tried to make her more 'Redeemable" Zag even going so far as to make merch of Queen bee to sell.
From what I heard, Thomas wanted it to be that Chloé was never going to be the Bee after Queen's battle arc. (the truth of this is unknown). But marketing and pressure made it so Chloé stuck around.
Eventually a lot of back and forth happened, and Thomas ensured that Chloé wouldnt get redeemed. Which is why you see chloé acting basically as the worst person.
All to make Zoé look like a much better bee.
Now personally, I didnt care much of chloé was redeemed or not. But I do hate shoddy writing. And Sole Crusher and Queen Banana are the worst episodes of season 4. The writing in both seemed geared to drive home the point that Chloé was basically the spawn of satan and that Zoe is the 'TRUE QUEEN" even though her personality has yet to be fleshed out.
And I didnt really see Zoe prove to have the quality of the bee. (which isnt saying she doesnt have it, but I didnt really see that defy authority bit)
Now I think Zoe could have been a good character, and maybe with time can develop into one. But there is nothing I hate more than.
"Hey see X? isnt X so much better than Y? See how awful Y is acting? Dont you just think X is the best?"
Cause that is what sole crusher and Queen banana felt like to me.
