the phm/iron lung crossovers made me think that if rocky were humanoid, there wouldnt be nearly as much support for aroace grace or power-of-friendship with no romance.
maybe im being pessimistic. but its genuinely stunning how little purely platonic simon&grace stuff there is compared to rocky&grace. turns out people are capable of having two guys just be friends, but only if one of them isn't human-shaped enough to make sexy yaoi of.
(please keep enjoying your ships. just...try looking at relationships from a non-romantic angle. [and not just because im so so tired of romance infecting everything i find interesting {exaggerating for comedic effect, but also serious}])
vrainsposting. as somone who went into the show aware of aiball but not the detail that ai was manipulating a lot of s1 can i mention how much i like the foreshadowing just. in yusaku's character.
like he's sold to you as someone who's sorta broody and angy and vengeful but you can see hints even early on that that's not quite right. he's less rude and more blunt to his classmates when he does not in fact befriend them, he's intrigued by go onizuka rather than brushing him off as irrelevant to our goal, and we see in the first ten episodes. his response to being near tortured to death for information he didn't have by akira is to forgive him near immediately after it happened. that's...werid, right? like. that's weird. you'd think if we were someone who holds grudges for that long, we'd...hold literally any of one there
(and the other. hints. idk wher eto put this in particular but that yusaku has a Tendency to walk directly into traps, even if he knows it's a trap. like if we were just pragmatic we wouldn't do that. but we're suggestible. it doesn't seem like it, but we are. and that got taken advantage of)
just. a lot o fthings that don't quite add up until you learn. he wasn't the mastermind of the s1 revenge, that was ai. of course yusaku isn't that vengeful/flips to forgiving revolver that fast, to save his special person is his motive. the revenge was ai's. he's not actually that vengeful, he's being used for revenge by the silliest guy ever. crazy reveal really late but one that makes a lot of esense, i really need to rewatch s1 for that
Full Outer Wilds spoilers ahead!!!! Go finish the game and then come back, if you havent.
Allow me to pretend I'm explaining some of Outer Wilds to a newbie really quick. It's the only way I can fully explain how crazy this OST is making me.
On Timber Hearth there's an area called the Quantum Grove, where Gabbro- the hatchling's time buddy- loved to chill in because it has adopted quantum properties from the quantum rock there. In it, theres a poem by Gabbro calling the place "the ancient glade". At the end of the game, after entering the Eye of the Universe, you're first dropped into a mimicry of the museum on Timber Hearth. Then, you're dropped into a quantum forest, filled with dying stars. And the music that plays there?
"The Ancient Glade."
A song that ties back to Gabbro. One of the hatchling's fellow Travellers and friend. In an area that has you trekking through what's essentially memory lane to bring every Traveller together for one last campfire, one last marshmallow, one last song. One last moment spent all together, before the end comes. As they all accept that the Universe is going to die. There's nothing that can be done, the Universe is and we are. One moment to soak in the warmth as they embrace the end with open arms. Ready to die, surrounded by the ones they love. Excited to make way for the new.
And then. These developers. These cheeky, cheeky developers. Andrew Prahlow. Everyone behind the beautiful music of this game.
In the youtube posted Travellers OST, near the bottom of the playlist and grouped up with all the end songs, all the instruments eventually begin to degrade. Grow faint. Become echo-y in this blurred mass of sound.
But what insturment returns to clarity, prevails to the very end, when all else is gone? When silence whisks away the entire universe?
The banjo. Riebecks banjo. You know, the astronaut who's terrified of space. Who set up camp for who knows how long on a stable little corner of Brittle Hollow, trying and failing to convince themself to get up- go see the Hanging City- because they were so terrified of the black hole. Riebeck, who despite all the fear plauging them, had became an astronaut to see the Hanging City with their own four eyes. To see what's out there, beyond Timber Hearth. Flying across space, refusing stay grounded back home, despite the very real danger of death constantly looming over their, everyone's head.
Riebeck. Riebeck's insturment is the only one that stays to the very end.
Despite the Universe dying. Despite the sun going supernova. Despite the fact they will no longer exist. Because that curiosity, desire to see the new, is held in every species- no matter the universe. Despite everything, life will persist. Even if the Hearthians, Nomai, Owlks aren't there to see it. It's up to travellers what impact they leave behind, for others to find. And these travellers choose to carry on their campfire song into the next universe.
chat I had to check that fucking wiki for something and oh my god. they’ve made a few subtle changes to the dialogue/backstory and guys they’ve taken away one of the things that makes Rayte so insane, which has also cleared something up in my mind because someone said to me it was implied that Ray went to Europe to try and track down Miles and I was like that cat on tiktok that goes HUH
because that’s… not in the fan translation. but anyway that’s not even what got me. on his page, it’s stated that Eddie “regularly” visited Samson with Judy
guys, in the fan translation, Ray visits with Kate every day until he leaves for Europe for “a few years”, which I took to mean around the time Miles came back and started working. and idk man I feel like the intensity and borderline codependency is what made this ship hit so hard
but ultimately people are making a shitload of art of them now and it feels like finding drinking water after 8 years in the desert so I’m not gonna complain
getting mad at a guy i just made up but i’m really concerned that a lot of brits think abolishing the nhs and making everything private will somehow improve things. like i’m genuinely really worried that people believe this
