Hey, hi,
WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE JWST JUST FOUND EVIDENCE OF LIFE ON ANOTHER PLANET?!
A team led by Indian-origin astrophysicist Dr Nikku Madhusudhan has detected potential signs of life on K2-18b, a distant exoplanet 120 light years away. Using NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, the team found dimethyl sulphide (DMS), a gas produced on Earth only by living organisms. The discovery, while not definitive, could be the strongest biosignature ever found. Dr Madhusudhan, now at the University of Cambridge, believes humanity may confirm alien life within two years if further evidence supports the findings. (more)
hi this is so cool!!! what do you think mickey tshirt tyler is ?
This is an artistic rendering of planet K2-18b, a planet about two and a half times the size of earth! It’s mostly covered in water, and possible signs of life have been detected—although it’s still unknown whether or not that was a fluke.
It’s considered a prime canidate for habitability someday, and is located around 124 light years away from us!!
Between the possibility finding life on other planets, the first sighting of a colossal squid, the weird dire wolf situation, and everything science related losing its funding, this is one heck of a week for the science community.
I still think it’s hilarious that we only found a probably-inhabited exoplanet AFTER 4chan got sent to the shadow realm.
Like the powers that be were soft locking us until we dealt with our own shit
Sunday Thoughts
… yeah. I know. But thanks for thinking I’m stupid.
My latest aura photo AND random BIG-style fortune said the same thing. I’m trying Universe, I swear. 🌈
It’s okay to leave the group chat, just so you know.
The full moon last weekend was a micromoon. The moon was at its apogee so it was 14% smaller than a supermoon (at perigee) and 7% smaller than a ‘regular’ full moon. It looked 30% dimmer as well than a supermoon because it’s so far away (407,000km). 🌕
We didn’t go ‘there’ on this trip. The juju is off and we have to follow the vibes. Too bad though. That place has a great coffee shop and bookstore. Good thing a new bookstore and coffee shop combo opened up in Harvard! Plus there’s a Moleskine store!
I love how halloumi squeaks on your teeth
Gaga is everything. TS could never. Paws up!!
JWST has proven that there is chance 99.7% that there is life on K2-18b
And yeah… I know that too but thanks again for thinking I’m an idiot.
Violette FR Bisou Balm is amazing.💄
New Study Debunks Earlier Hints of Alien Life on Exoplanet K2 18b, Reigniting Debate on Biosignatures
When scientists last year reported signs of dimethyl sulfide (DMS), a molecule on Earth mostly produced by marine life, on the exoplanet K2 18b, headlines erupted with excitement over the possibility of alien life. The planet, located 120 light years away in the habitable zone of a red dwarf star, suddenly became the most talked-about destination in our cosmic neighbourhood. However, fresh scrutiny from a new team of researchers has cast serious doubt over those claims, reminding the world just how complex and uncertain the search for extraterrestrial life remains.
