Can someone please be kind enough to give me some headcanons about these two? They’re one of the most underrated couples in Star Wars that we *barely see anything of*.
How do you think they approach being a married couple, or teachers at the Jedi Academy? What do you think the circumstances were that led to them falling in love? And how would they go about raising any child(ren), because they *absolutely* had at least one little baby of their own.
Here is another snippet while I wrestle with ch 43:
"What will keep it from happening again?” Solusar asked.
Mara bit her lip, taken aback. She really didn’t want to air everything out again, but she remembered her talk with Gantoris. “It was me and Luke. We didn’t understand certain things about each other and I…I didn’t deal with it well.”
“You felt attacked so you retaliated,” he said simply.
Mara nodded.
He lifted a hand to her head and her own came up to block. His lip twitched up. “Like that. It’s instinct.”
Mara brought her hand down, feeling suddenly sheepish. He'd moved slowly with no indication that it'd been an attack.
“It’s something you’ve been shaped to do,” he explained. “I understand it well. I reacted in that manner towards you, probing your mind the second I picked out your mannerisms.”
“You were right to be…concerned." Mara frowned. "Look at how it all turned out.”
He shook his head. “Was I? Or might I have approached you differently and tried to create trust between us? Then maybe you would have felt listened to -- perhaps it wouldn’t have ameliorated your anger entirely, but it could have lessened it slightly.”
Mara tilted her head. “You just said there’s no use dwelling on the past.”
“This is not dwelling, Mara. I tell you this so you can trust me,” he said bluntly. “I am on the path to being a Jedi, but I make mistakes, costly ones sometimes. No one is exempt. You’re no better, but you’re no worse. But that means that you are not alone. It could have just as easily been me, enraged by something, someone and choosing to retaliate.”
Mara looked away. “Oh come on. You’re a Jedi apprentice.”
“You would be surprised,” he replied. “Being a Jedi only makes you more aware, but feelings and instincts never simply vanish. Being with others grounds us better, defangs those negative feelings. Belonging is something to cultivate,” he said. “And it’s never too late to unlearn unproductive habits. Doesn’t mean it will be easy, but working through it will make you happier and more balanced – and then perhaps you can rethink your relationship with the Force.”
She groaned there. “Don’t tell me you believe Halcyon’s nonsense.”
“It’s not nonsense. You feel it.”
Mara made a face at him. “Fine, the Force gives me warnings. It comes to me like that, but I don’t do anything with it.”
“You do plenty.” He seemed to think back. "Tionne told me she was self-taught for a while. Her first forays into music were just about finding which notes sounded good together. She could mimic a piece by ear quite well. But it wasn’t until her grandmother sat her down and methodically taught her scales and finger exercises that she stopped copying and started gaining enough structure to compose her own.”
“I was given Force instruction,” Mara countered.
“Any instruction that focuses on using the Force is no better than playing music by ear,” he replied evenly. “At worst it’s a stumbling block for true knowledge, being taught to use the Force is an easy road for us to be used.” He shook his head. “True knowledge comes from being guided to feel the Force.”

Star Wars Legends Spotlight: The Wedding of Luke and Mara
In this last week of writer signups for the From a Legends Point of View fanfiction event, we’ll be celebrating Legends by spotlighting some key events, characters, and moments from the Legends continuity.

Our first spotlight is the wedding of the galaxy’s most eligible Jedi bachelor, Luke Skywalker, with former Emperor’s Hand and current Jedi Master Mara Jade in 19 ABY on Coruscant.
Why is this important?
Luke and Mara are in many ways the power couple of Star Wars Legends (along with Leia Organa and Han Solo). While Leia and Han were shown as a committed couple by the end of Return of the Jedi, Luke Skywalker spent a fair amount of the Legends continuity in various ultimately doomed love affairs. Mara Jade, one of the most prominent characters to originate in Legends, was introduced in the Thrawn trilogy and clearly had some chemistry with Luke from the start, as well as going on her own journey from Emperor’s Hand to smuggler to Jedi knight to Jedi master before ending up with Luke.
How does it happen?
The engagement takes place toward the end of Timothy Zahn’s novel Vision of the Future, appropriately happening in the middle of a life-or-death situation. The room they are in is filling up with water, and Luke asks Mara to marry him. She says, “You mean, if we get out of this alive?” and he says, “I mean regardless.”
The wedding and the leadup take place in Star Wars: Union, a four-unit comic series written by X-Wing series writer Michael Stackpole. Most of the series deals with the more mundane events leading up to any wedding— choosing a dress, the bachelor / bachelorette parties, the wedding itself, and moments from the reception— but the happy couple being who they are, of course there is danger, intrigue, and shenanigans. There are actually two weddings: a Jedi wedding only attended by members of the Jedi Order early in the series, and a formal wedding that serves as a major event for the New Republic.
The Jedi portion of the wedding largely goes off without a hitch, but the New Republic ceremony is where the shenanigans come in.
We see Mara attempt to “say yes to the dress” only to be confronted with some of the worst fashion crimes imaginable, then find her dream designer out in the alley, having been originally prevented from preventing her designs by her evil boss.
Luke’s bachelor party at the Red Rancor (attended by Han Solo, Wedge Antilles, Chewbacca, Gavin Darklighter, Talon Karrde, Wes Janson, Derek “Hobbie” Klivian, Tycho Celchu, Kam Solusar, Corran Horn, Booster Terrik, and Lando Calrissian) ends in a bar fight instigated by a Moff who is trying to kill Luke / prevent the wedding.
Meanwhile, the women (Mara, Leia, Tionne Solusar, Winter Celchu, Mirax Terrik Horn, and Iella Wessiri Antilles) have a spa day and then kick some ass in a slingball game.
The day of the ceremony is a major New Republic event, with people like Mon Mothma in attendance and Admiral Ackbar presiding. A Moff is determined to interrupt the ceremony and violently prevent the festivities, but Chewie, the Jedi, and the Rogues take care of that while those with parts in the ceremony carry on. Meanwhile, Booster Terrik has been tasked with keeping the children quiet during the ceremony, including his grandson Valin Horn as well as Myri and Syal Antilles and Jaina, Jacen, and Anakin Solo.
Finally, we see the happy couple wed:
…And various other couples at the ceremony get nostalgic about their own weddings as they enjoy the reception.
