Super excited that I got to see @kamigarcia today at ALA. Her new #teentitans book illustrated by @_picolo, Together comes out in August. @dccomics had her signing Together, so I was able to snag a copy early.

Always love hanging with Kami and can't wait to finish out the Teen Titans series.

Okay so I just read Teen Titan: Starfire and I'm going to be honest... I didn't love it

Okay I've been a fan of Gabriel and Kami for as long as I can remember. Gabriel's teen titans art was like my life growing up and when I found out he and Kami Garcia were making a comic together I was ecstatic!! Especially with a focus on beast boy and Raven like BRO

BUT THIS BOOK!?

Okay you can change a lot about the teen titan, their team name, their roster, their ages, hell their BIRTH NAMES!!

BUT YOU DON'T TURN AN ALIEN HUMAN

Okay there i said it! Make it cliche, make it cheesy, I swear I it that shit up!!! Hell it could have been a stupid fish out of water story have the girl be isekied to high school but for the lobe of God DO NOT make her human. Like why???? I swear there were other ways, hell in the cartoon her being an alien barely has any long lasting conflicts. You could have downplayed it like Damien, or made a couple alterations like Raven, but does she have to be human??? We have demons witches and ghosts, the "relatability" aspect loss the plot a while ago, why do they have to do this to me. 😭😭😭😭

I really really want to be excited for titans together but right now I'm genuinely upset. And don't get me started on vic beiythe only one without a book but that's a story for another day.

When I was reading this, I kept thinking it had Supernatural-type vibes, like the television show but with teenagers. It started off strong, but eventually became generic and disappointing. I can see some readers enjoying it, but it’s definitely not for me. I really wanted to like it, but Kennedy annoyed me too much and shows very little character growth. The love triangle also felt predictably cliché. Each character has a special skill, but even so, they come across as flat and lacking real depth.
