“People don’t understand the word ruthless. They think it means ‘mean.’ It’s not about being mean. It’s about seeing the bright, clear line that leads from A to B. The line that goes from motive to means. Beginning to end. It’s about seeing that bright, clear line and not caring about anything but the beautiful fact that you can see the solution. Not caring about anything else but the perfection of it.”
Eventually the sun sets, and people move through the crowd, lighting the hundreds of candles scattered everywhere, and the paper lanterns, casting a warm, flickering red-gold glow on everything, bouncing off Cody’s hair and the copper in his outfit and the gold in his eyes and oh.
He’s beautiful.
Inspired by Chapter 8 of “do you love me” on AO3. I’ll link below! It’s an absolutely BRUTALLY beautiful fic. I cannot rant enough. It’s painfully close to cannon compliant, just with Cody as the Duke instead of Duchess Satine. Everything is just so flawlessly executed. The smattering of Mando’a is a delight. It’s another one of those that you stay up late devouring, then sit and stare at the wall, wondering what the kriff you’re supposed to do next.

the game is downloading...but I won’t be able to play it right away when it finishes because I’m a good boyfriend and @immadothething won’t be home until later
new republic era mando drag impersonator named Satine Crisis, R.I.P. and she's in like zombie make up. her whole gimmick is like being undead but still fashion
din's an ok character i guess. unpopular opinion but i'm not really invested because of how underdeveloped he is from the writing and the way this fandom puts him on a pedestal sometimes is annoying. plus disney screwing over boba to prop him up and also mailing grogu back to him in boba's show for toy sales made me care even less. oh well.
obsessed what prompted this confession but like,i get that yeah. i'm equally exhausted by him. i have d/in dj/arin blacklisted.
but, i dont think he's underdeveloped tho. (a better example of undeveloped the main team from TBB) i think, recent negative feelings are manifesting in me as distaste for him. maybe also coz of being used as a well-recognized lure to pad an abysmal plot.
i do think he was well-executed stoic drifter archetype in mando s1 (and i unfortunately love this overused trope). his glib and quiet personality suited mando 1's format well. it was entertaining. him plus the episodic format + relatively small personal stakes + self-contained plot all worked together for this 8 episode sci-fiy slice of life.
BUT MAN mando 2 and tbobf did not have the room(number of episodes + runtime) to like expand in any like big bombastic epic high-stakes crossover. i think that's when din's character starts to feel very stale.
no. 1 example in my head is how gintama, took 20 years to slowly grow from story abt a ronin's daily life with ptsd to slowly weaving in higher stakes happening in the background. then 3 years to wrap the big galaxy-wide ending plot. with appropriate time given for character growth. and onscreen changes we don't get from the live actions a lot. coz of how crowded everything is. characters going thru one thing. yanked around for the sake of a name drop.
anyway. there's also how like apparently the episode with the covert in tbobf dropped very interesting lore, which honestly could've been what s2 was--instead of the disjointed cameo fest s2 was.
which was a little too late--coz i already didnt enjoy s2 as a follow up nor was i enjoying tbobf as a new expansion.
wrapping up yeah rushed development trying to keep the brand etc. relevant, turned out incoherent nonsense from like genuinely interesting plots. mando s2 and tbobf couldn't have been expected to be wider-spanning with just 8 episodes. its literally why the last seasons of game of thrones sucked.
then yea. i wish fandom was more frank abt din being kinda stale.
which is all a shame coz elements of mando were genuinely interesting and worth some expansion, i was looking forward to that mando original novel that got canceled.
and good lord this is too long without even unpacking the lazy racist bias.
