You know you're a martial artist when you're like 'Yay! New bruise. Oh look! Another one!'
Even when I’m not actually doing martial arts at the dojo I am...
-researching about martial arts
-writing about martial arts
-talking about martial arts
-doing kata and bunkai in my head
-watching fight scenes
-working out so I can do martial arts for longer periods of time
-cross-training in another martial art XD
Why ALL Karate Styles Are FAKE

Me: “As a general rule, if I’m not doing karate or kobudo, I’m researching martial arts -reading articles, books, watching videos. If I’m not doing that I’m usually thinking about martial arts. Or watching Donnie Yen movies,”
Cal: "What do you think about, when you’re thinking about martial arts?“
Me: “Oh, I don’t know. Sometimes I do basic techniques over and over, trying to correct or smooth over errors. I go over what we do in class, especially flow drills; wrist locking drills, arm locking drills, throws. I do kata. I compare the movements of other martial arts to goju, stuff like that,”
Cal: “You’re obsessed,”
Me: “Yah. I’m in class and all I can think about is Sancho Sai or arm breaks. It’s ridiculous,”
Cal: “I own my own business and when I’m at work all I can think of is karate,”
Me: “Maybe we need an AA group,”

Random Dude at Party: “I would say there’s only two complete martial arts systems out there. The first is Shaolin Kung Fu, but it takes your entire life to learn. The second is aikido, because its the only martial art that deals with multiple attackers,”
Me: “Well Jujitsu deals with multiple attackers,”
Random: “Not as much as aikido though,”
Me: “I just don’t agree,”
Random: “That’s what I love about martial arts! Everyone is in it for something different. What I’m concerned with is defending from multiple attackers,”
Me: “Yeah I’m definitely in it for different reasons. If it were me I’d say Japanese Jujitsu -less well know as the original Judo before Judo got rules...- because it has a little bit of everything. And the other one I would say is karate. Karate was the original mixed martial art- especially Okinawan karate. Karate is one of the most comprehensive systems of self-defense training out there,”

Me: “It’s not that I’m not a nerd, it’s that I’m not a nerd who enjoys the same things as other nerds.”
Senpai Cliff: “You’re a karate nerd.”
Me: “I guess going to the dojo nine times a week qualifies me as a karate nerd. and the fact that I spend about 75% of my time thinking about martial arts is another qualifier.”
This is just so true, not just for martial artists, but for everyone!
