Heartbeat (A Joaquin Manansala x Athena Dizon oneshot)
“They say that in life, everyone is searching for a purpose, for a passion, for the reason behind their heartbeat. When I was a kid, I thought I would find the answers in basketball. My dad loved basketball, I loved basketball. The love for the sport practically ran in our blood. But one unfortunate day, I just had to be hit by a stray bullet. Since my accident, my parents and doctors banned me from playing the sport I loved because it was too dangerous. For years, I felt like I was robbed of my purpose in life, my passion, the one thing that made my heart beat ecstatically. I became miserable and had lost direction. Then I met this girl who would change my life forever. Her name was Athena Dizon. When I first met her, I would have never suspected that she had a rare heart condition. She held herself together with such strength and optimism. Who knew that the girl with the faint heartbeat would be able to kickstart mine? She inspired me with her story of attending regular college even when her family and doctors didn’t think she’d be able to handle it. Athena was the one who encouraged me to start playing basketball again, to prove that I wouldn’t let myself be restricted by what other people believed I could and couldn’t do. Without her, I wouldn’t have tried out for our school’s varsity basketball team. Without her, I wouldn’t have scored the buzzer beater during our championship game. Without her, I wouldn’t have been named MVP for all 4 years of college. Athena was my cheerleader, my number one fan and supporter who never failed to proudly scream ‘Go Wacky, go Wacky, go Wacky Wacky love!’ But most importantly, Athena was my best friend. She helped me rekindle my heartbeat. I think that was her purpose in life, the mission God wanted her to fulfill - to help the hopeless, like me, make the most out of every moment that their heart beats. To live life and enjoy life. Thank you Athena, for teaching me this before you had to go. It’s been a hard and painful 40 days since you left us bes. But you know what’s helping me get through this all? Knowing that you live on in our memory and in our hearts. I used to think that my passion for basketball was the driving force behind my heartbeat. But now I realize, you Athena Dizon are my gamechanger. You made my heart beat anew to a happier drum. I miss you and I love you, bes. Until we meet again… ” - Joaquin Manansala

Kathniel Week #3 | Day 5 → Song Lyrics
↳ I don't quite know how to say how I feel. Those three words are said too much, they're not enough; let's waste time chasing cars around our heads.
