Summer Retirements

In many cases maiko and geiko will leave after odori season in May, but June and July are actually pretty common times too. This summer season will sadly see the following 3 geiko leaving the profession from Gion Kobu: Mikako (実佳子) of Nishimura (西村) - End of June Katsugiku (佳つ菊) of Odamoto (小田本) - End of June Tsuruha (つる葉) of Tama (多麻) - End of July This seems like a great loss, but all three women are leaving to get married! So, we wish them all the best in their future endeavors ^^!

February 9th, 2019: Elegant geiko Katsugiku (佳つ菊) of Odamoto okiya and graceful maiko Tatsuha (多都葉) of Tama okiya, both in Gion Kobu, perform a dance for two using mai tengui (dancing veils).

3rd row: Tsuruha, Katsugiku, Mao, Koai, Koyou, Sayaka

The cast changes each day of the Odori, so every geiko and maiko have equal chances to dance in famous blue kimono. You can watch the performance this year in April ^.^
