I hate Adam Parrish.

Now that I’ve gotten your attention let me explain: when I began The Raven Cycle I fully prepared myself to relate heavily to Ronan Lynch. I had been told multiple times that he and Andrew Minyard were very similar (and since I find Andrew extremely personally relatable) I figured the same would be true for everyone’s favorite angry cottagecore punk. However, I was so very wrong.

Adam Parrish stepped onto the page and, from the first mention of his backstory, punched me in the face. I had NOT prepared myself to relate to THIS character. I was appalled and felt very emotionally targeted. Every detail of his corruption arc (if I may call it that) during The Dream Thieves felt like a personal offense.

So to rephrase, I do not hate Adam Parrish really. I hate that I understand where he comes from. I hate that his decision making process is very like my own. And I hate how on most days I relate to the bone-deep exhaustion.
