7 - What is your fandom guilty pleasure?Huh. Not sure exactly what that means - whether guilty pleasure within a fandom (eg, a type of fic) or a fandom that itself a guilty pleasure that you like to dip your toes into occasionally. If the latter, I don’t know. I tend to be fairly SPN-focussed. I do indulge in some Merlin or Teen Wolf, or some very occasional Harry Potter, from time to time, but I wouldn’t call that exactly guilty. If it’s the former… um. Well. There’s a couple of kinks that I don’t tend to admit to, but they aren’t really fandom specific. I don’t know, there isn’t really anything about fandom (except for that!) that I feel one ought to be ashamed of? Maybe just, in general reading fic when I ought to be doing something more productive.
9 - Describe the first time you read a smutty fanfic. What ship was it and what kinks were involved? (Also asked by kdheart!)Oh wow. Loooong time ago. I can’t remember specifics, so let’s just hit some highlights.- I do know I would have started in LotR fandom because (long before the movies) I discovered that people had written sexy stories about the LotR characters and I was guiltily fascinated. Most of it was very bad. I do remember an Arwen/Legolas/Aragorn threesome in Rivendell (I think she was in the middle), and a badly written but happy and sort of fun shameless self-insert where the two authors had written themselves as the lovers of Aragorn and Boromir, and it ended up in a foursome. That one involved public sex, because one of them was sitting on her gentleman’s lap in the public room of an inn and managed to wriggle until he was inside her, while pretending to everyone else that absolutely nothing was going on. There was also a non-con which involved Aragorn finding Gollum trailing them in Moria and raping him to teach him to stay away, which absolutely horrified me and made me stop reading fanfic online for a very long time.- When I returned, it was harry potter! And it was mostly for maya/sarahtales/Sarah Rees Brennan, and her amazing, wonderful, hilarious, brilliant Harry/Draco fics. I do still have the pdf of them all that she put up before taking down all her fic from the internet when her first Real Book was published. Beautiful long multi-chaptered works, which took canon and made it better, and often were technically nothing above a Teen rating but were very, very hot due to the wonderful character frisson.- At one point there was astolat, who would have introduced me for the first time to Supernatural and Merlin. And, briefly, to American Idol (the Lambert year), but though I enjoyed a few of those fics, I never really got into that fandom as a group. I spent almost two years pottering around happily in Merlin fandom, rubbing my face in all the lovely lovely Arthur/Merlin, until I just got so very very tired of the show itself and its relentless failure to actually write as well for these actors and characters as they deserved. The first Merlin fanfic I ever read, I know, was one where another dragon (not Kilgarrah) abducts Merlin and Arthur stomps off determinedly across the land to meet him, and they end up humping against a tree while the dragon rolls its eyes at them, and it is adorable and sweet.
- The first SPN fic I ever read was a SPN/something crossover - possibly SGA? - and it was Dean/the main character of the other show, trying to find their way across apocalyptic zombie America up past the safe line to where Sam was. I have no idea why I was reading it if I didn’t know either character. Possibly I had already read something by the author? Astolat would have been my first wincest fics, which were absolutely delicious. I tried watching the show briefly (early years) but didn’t get into it. It took more reading of fanfic and getting attached to the characters before I came back to the show and cared enough to get properly into them and their story. And then there was Castiel, and… mmm… I’m sure you know how the rest of the story goes. And I am almost sure that the first fic with Castiel in it that I read - at least, the first one that made an impression and made me ask ‘who is this guy?’ - was Named. Which I’m sure will astonish nobody.
