I have almost finished my kelpie story set in Regency Scotland and I suddenly wonder whether the concept of kelpies (and/or water-horses) seducing young women is too obscure. The folktales never even determine whether the kelpie's ultimate goal is to kidnap or eat the women. I don't even know what my kelpie's ultimate goal is!
Of course the answer is that no piece of folklore is too obscure for me to gleefully run away with it, but I do feel like that one xkcd comic:
Here's a commission for @bookwells, of their OC's kelpie form. I always love drawing animals and creatures, so this was a lot of fun. :)

kelpie! :D
a mlp au species that @antbandddd and i are making :) theyre full of goop like big amoeba and they filter and clean the water they inhabit. they wear the trash they pull out of the water like a badge of honor. they all have a cutesy-gross vibe. this one is named tetanus. they smell like blood and pennies. if these kelpies were toys (the primary consideration when making a mlp species in my objectively correct opinion) theywould be clear plastic shells with goo and confetti floating in them like a snowglobe. and no doubt children would pop them and let all the goo out. leading to several lawsuits.

Blue black calligraphy on paper. I posted this painting a while back, but not as a scanned image so hopefully the details are better in this version.
