Holding On is the second single Australian producer Kendl has shared off his forthcoming Colours EP, but it’s also a striking first encounter for us with this talented artist. I can’t help but be drawn to Holding On’s shadowy trip hop and dusky electronica, which heavily reminds me of bands like Alpines, London Grammar, and HÆLOS, but with the beautifully expansive ambiance of Bonobo, Tycho, and Jon Hopkins. NYC by way of Texas singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tiger Darrow also turns in a splendid performance with her breathy immaculate vocals. Kendl explains: “I wrote ‘Holding On’ last year while I was working overseas on a small remote island. Being away from home, out of my comfort zone and in a completely different space inspired this track. It was great to be able to work with Tiger Darrow on this.
