reasons that i love the show giri/haji and will be forever sad it was cancelled after only one season:
i have for many years been obsessed with the lymond chronicles by dorothy dunnett and the yuto-kenzo relationship in this show feels very lymond and richard-coded
( can i fit them all into one post??? hopefully!! they're under the cut because there's so. damn. many. of. them. anyway, you may have already heard about koki's sibling's names and it may . . . differ from what's here. i changed them around a little bit! )
( some context probably needed before going into this: in my canon, each ua class has twenty five in it rather than twenty. not to show my neurodivergence on main, but i literally only did this because that’d make fifty hero course students each year instead of forty and fifty is a nicer number in my opinion. a nice, round number that is half of a hundred. chef’s kiss. )

ISHIO MORI [ 森石夫 ] ✧ would be thirty ✧ pisces ✧ petrification.
ishio was the eldest of the mori siblings, born just under two years before koki. he would be thirty, however died in a villain attack when he was twenty four years old ( saving koki ). he was in ua with hizashi, shota and oboro and was part of their squad. his pro hero name was "gorgon" and his quirk was "petrification" - it worked similar to shota's, hence why they became quick friends. looking at someone would cause them to freeze in place and turn to stone for about five minutes - hence the hero name gorgon. it was a mixture of both parents' quirks, albeit a strange manifestation of it. of course, it took the stone manipulation part of his father's quirk, with the fact that his mother's infrasonic sound can freeze people in place.
he was laid back and easy going for the most part, but was heavily parentified as a kid, despite also being the family's golden child - having to look after his younger siblings and be the 'responsible' one for as long as he could remember. this meant, as far as koki was concerned, he was more like a father figure - despite their two year age gap. he cooked for his siblings, made sure they were ready for school, helped them with their homework and so on. even his last moments were protecting/saving koki. ishio's death had a knock on effect of changing all of his siblings lives as, soon afterwards, their parents completely shunned koki from the family and then, a year later, disappeared, leaving hayate to look after their siblings. he was aroace!

HAYATE MORI [ 森颯 ] ✧ twenty six [ thirty five ] ✧ scorpio ✧ spectrosound.
hayate is the third oldest of the mori siblings, born two years after koki. he's twenty six years old as of the start of the main show, and is a pro hero by the name of "astraea" and is technically the first one to start the family's trend of greek mythological inspired names - ishio and koki both choosing greek mythology names was entirely coincidental. his quirk is the same as his mother's, "spectrosound", which allows him to use the entire spectrum of sound - including ultra and infrasonic waves. this can have a variety of effects - including physical ones such as headaches and so on, to psychological ones such as paranoia and so on.
hayate is very similar to koki - quiet, intense and introverted. he’s an avid reader and would prefer to sit alone in a library reading over anything else. while he is a pro hero, he’s not really a famous one, and instead prefers being an underground hero with little to no recognition for it. his other job is, however, as a car mechanic - which people rarely ever expect from him. despite being a lot like koki, hayate can be a little more uptight and dismissive of other people - the neglect from his parents has left him to avoid attachments, scared that they’ll disappear too. despite this, as well as looking after his minor siblings ( kyo, kazuhiko, dai, koyuki, asuka, kaoru, kenzo and yumiko ), he also has a daughter, karin mori, and a wife, aya mori ( née yokoi ).
hayate and koki are incredibly close, due to their personalities being the same. often, they would hang out on their own when the other siblings were being too loud - hayate reading, koki listening to music. they didn't talk for a year or two when koki went awol after ishio's death, but now they're back to their close relationship. they have weekly dinners together, with the whole family ( them, their other siblings, their kids and their partners ) and a few times a month just hang out one on one.

YASU MORI [ 森泰 ] ✧ twenty one [ thirty ] ✧ aquarius ✧ grotesque.
yasu is the fourth oldest of the mori siblings - born seven years after koki, and the first of the mori siblings to not go into the pro-hero business. he, instead, is a baker, and owns a fancy bakery and coffee shop in tokyo. his quirk is "grotesque" and is a form of his father's quirk, "gargoyle" - however, it excludes the water manipulating element of the quirk, leading him to the name "grotesque" to differentiate from the two different quirks - since grotesques are statues similar to gargoyles, but aren't water spouts. unlike the rest of his siblings, just like his father, yasu's skin is made out of a rock-like substance.
yasu is extroverted, but laid back. he's friendly with everyone, and acts like everyone's friend ( and he really does seem to be friends with everyone ). he lights up every room he's in and is, generally and genuinely, just a wholesome guy. he's just a sweetie pie, but he's also a bit of a people pleaser. he can be considered a bit of a pushover, and often acts as a sort of mediator, but it also means he'll roll over and do whatever to make someone happy. he used to live with hayate after their parents abandoned them, however, now he lives in an apartment above his bakery with his boyfriend, haruhiro, and their two dogs, nori and pepper. he, like koki, is also gay, but didn’t come out until after their parents had left because, well, he saw the reaction to koki coming out.
koki and yasu didn't get along much as kids - since yasu was too loud and too extroverted and, honestly, didn't spend much time around his siblings due to spending time with his friends. however, now they're adults, much like with hayate, they spend a reasonable amount of time together. he spends time with the whole family for dinner once a week, and koki almost always stops by his cafe to chat and to grab a coffee with yasu - so, now, they consider themselves very close to one another.

KAITO MORI [ 森快飛 ] ✧ nineteen [ twenty eight ] ✧ capricorn ✧ bat.
kaito is the fifth mori of the family, born when koki was nine years old. he is also not a pro hero, though, unlike yasu, he tried - he got into ua's entrance exam, but was expelled halfway through his final year. not for anything dangerous, just because he simply wasn’t doing the work. kaito was the first sibling to have the same quirk as koki, "bat". most of the aspects of their quirks are the same - however, like their father, kaito has wings on their back like their father rather than on his arms.
kaito is loud and a party animal. he's boisterous, and never fails to speak his mind. honestly, he would have made a great pro-hero if he'd put his mind to it - he's smart, active, strong and willing to stick up for people. he's quick witted, and incredibly funny - he never fails to make koki laugh. he's incredibly charismatic and energetic - like a tiny little purse dog. he's, also, incredibly argumentative and easily picks fights, and often just does things for the sake of rebelling. he lived with the rest of his siblings with hayate during his teen years, but has since moved out. strangely, koki doesn't actually know much about kaito's life despite them still being close - he doesn't know where kaito lives or if he's seeing anyone. he, however, does have a dog called edgar.
they, however, have a very close relationship - again, they always see each other for weekly family get togethers. kaito also, sometimes, randomly turns up at koki's house unannounced. sometimes it's just to crash after a party and koki's house was closer, sometimes it's to steal food from his fridge, but they always sit up in the kitchen to chat whenever he does crash at koki's, and koki has enough rooms that it's not a problem housing kaito half the week, and it's good to know he's somewhere safe and not on the streets.

KYO MORI [ 森暁 ] ✧ seventeen [ twenty six ] ✧ gemini ✧ bat.
kyo is the sixth born mori sibling, and is kazuhiko's older twin brother, born when koki was eleven years old. he's a third year hero course student ( 3-b ) with the big three. his hero name is "nike" - carrying on the family tradition of naming themselves after greek mythology. like koki, kaito and a lot of the siblings, kyo has the quirk "bat". it works pretty much exactly the same as koki's quirk, including the fact kyo's arms transforms into wings just like koki's.
kyo is the sibling that's the most like koki - they're almost entirely identical personality wise. kyo is standoffish and aloof, and prefers spending time with his cat. he's also into art, and draws to pass his time a lot of the time. he's kind, soft spoken and very quiet. just like koki, he's a gentle giant. however, kyo, similar to yasu, is somewhat of a pushover, and a bit of a people pleaser. he currently lives with hayate with the rest of his younger siblings. however, like kaito, he spends a lot of time at koki's - since, like koki, he prefers the quiet, and koki's house is far more quiet than hayate's often is. as he's in the hero course in year three, he's friends with the "big three" - nejire hado, mirio togata and tamaki amajiki, and he's currently interning with koki at his agency.
koki and kyo have a close relationship, since they're so similar. koki feels a protectiveness towards kyo in particular because of their similarities. when they were kids, they weren't as close, mostly because of the age gap between the two of them and the fact koki was never home when kyo was growing up, but when their parents left them, they became closer - since koki was able to see him more, and the two of them managed to bond over their dark interests.

KAZUHIKO MORI [ 森知彦 ] ✧ seventeen [ twenty six ] ✧ gemini ✧ bat.
kazuhiko is the seventh born mori sibling, and is kyo's younger twin brother ( by ten minute ), born when koki was eleven years old. he's also a year three hero course student ( 3-a ) with the big three. his hero name, "fury", also continues the siblings' tradition of greek mythology based names. just like koki and half of his other siblings, kazuhiko has the quirk "bat" - just like koki, with all the same aspects including his arms turning into wings.
kazuhiko is a supportive person to his friends and family. he's considered reliable, always turns up on time, always does his homework, and is actually a pretty decent cook, and always does his chores too. he's kind and caring, along with hardworking and practical. he is, however, overly humble, and will absolutely let someone else take credit for his work if he was asked to. like kyo and their younger siblings, kazuhiko currently lives with hayate in his house. as he's also in year three, he's good friends with the big three - nejire hado, mirio togata and tamaki amajiki. he is currently interning with the wild wild pussycats - specifically with tiger, but since they're a team, he's being trained by all three of them.
kazuhiko and koki get along, although they're not too close. they didn't interact much when kazuhiko was a kid, since the large age gap and the fact that koki wasn't around a lot as a teenager. they didn't really interact much until kazuhiko started at ua, since it was koki's first year teaching. they're not the closest, but they're friendly enough. they see each other at the weekly family meals, and then he often gets dragged over when kyo comes over with their friends.

DAI MORI [ 森大 ] ✧ sixteen [ twenty five ] ✧ sagittarius ✧ spectrosound.
dai is the eighth born mori sibling, born when koki was twelve years old. he goes to ua, but is in the general studies programme with not much intention of becoming a hero - he just wants to go to university to study psychology. his quirk, "spectrosound", is the copy of their mother's quirk, just like hayate. he has the full spectrum of sound, including infra and ultrasonic sound, which can stun victims and cause various other symptoms.
dai is sharp witted and extroverted, and is generally considered a bit of a nerd - hence why he went into general studies rather than the hero course, he wanted to "do a little bit of everything". he's incredibly hardworking, but also fast paced - he always seems to be doing something, having extracurriculars pretty much everyday and a weekend job. unlike koki, it's not to just be out of the house, but genuinely because he hates being idle. he can, however, sometimes come across as insensitive and mean. much like the rest of his siblings, he lives with hayate in his house - he, however, barely spends time at home, with all his extracurriculars, his job and spending time with his boyfriend.
dai and koki have a positive relationship, but they're not the closest. much like most of koki's younger siblings, the age gap between the two means koki was barely around during dai's young childhood. however, they spend once a week together at their family dinners and, of course, koki teaches him at ua - so they see each other pretty much every day.

KOYUKI MORI [ 森恋雪 ] ✧ fifteen [ twenty four ] ✧ scorpio ✧ bat.
koyuki is the nineth born mori sibling, born when koki was thirteen years old, and is the eldest of koki's younger quadruplet siblings. she goes to ua and is in the hero course ( class 1-a ). her hero name is "strix", again, bringing in the greek mythological references. her quirk, like koki's, is "bat" - she has all the same aspects as koki, however, the only difference being that she has her wings on her back rather than on her arms.
koyuki is a very serious and aloof girl with a strong sense of justice. she's, however, somewhat sweet when you get to know her, although she can still come across as a little distant. she's responsible, and is often called the 'mum friend' of the group, and often helps with study groups and tutoring so on. she's honest and direct, along with calm and practical. she is, however, stubborn and can come across as a little insensitive because of it. she's in the hero course, and her closest friends in class are koji koda, momo yaoyorozu, tsuyu asui & tenya iida. just like the rest of her siblings, she lives with hayate. she is interning with edgeshot.
koyuki and koki have a positive relationship, much like koki and dai, koki wasn’t around much for most of koyuki’s early childhood and so they’re not as close as they could be. however, they see each other every day at school, and at the weekly dinner. koyuki sees koki as more of a very embarrassing uncle than a brother.

ASUKA MORI [ 森飛鳥 ] ✧ fifteen [ twenty four ] ✧ scorpio ✧ gargoyle.
asuka is the tenth born mori sibling, born when koki was thirteen years old, and is the second eldest of koki's younger quadruplet siblings. he also goes to ua and is in the hero course ( class 1-a ). his hero name is "siren", carrying the greek mythology theme of the siblings' name. his quirk, "gargoyle", is exactly the same as his father's quirk - mixing basic water manipulation with stonelike skin and mutant features. he, however, has no wings, unlike their father.
asuka is quick-witted and has a very quick sense of humour, along with being incredibly calm and rational in most situations. he's also incredibly playful, and curious, and is ready to learn anything new with a smile and a funny joke. he's incredibly rebellious, and often doesn't mind standing up for people even if it's to someone with authority, and often gets himself in trouble at school. he's one of the 'problem children' according to aizawa. he is, like koyuki, in class 1-a, and is close friends with mezo shoji, kyoka jiro, fumikage tokoyami and denki kaminari. he, like the rest of his siblings, lives with hayate in his suburban home, and has done since their parents left them. he is currently interning with rock lock.
much like the rest of the quadruplets, asuka didn't see much of koki as a younger child - since the age gap means koki was a teenager and always out of the house when asuka was young. however, now they see each other pretty much every day, so they definitely have some kind of relationship. like koyuki, asuka has way more of an uncle-nephew kind of relationship with koki.

KAORU MORI [ 森薫 ] ✧ fifteen [ twenty four ] ✧ scorpio ✧ bat.
kaoru is the eleventh born mori sibling, born when koki was thirteen years old, and is the third eldest of koki's younger quadruplet siblings. he goes to ua and is in the hero course ( class 1-b ) and his hero name is "harpy", again, to carry on the mythology theme of the siblings' name. his quirk, like koki's, is "bat" and allows him all the abilities of a bat, including hands and arms that can transfer into wings on command.
kaoru is open minded and has a unique point of view, if a little strange at times. he's certainly considered a little absentminded, but is very calm in the way he speaks. he's creative, just like koki and kyo, and loves playing piano and dance. he, much like koki, is also quiet and introverted, and can come across as a little disinterested. kaoru is also incredibly awkward too, which can isolate him from people. he, like the rest of his siblings, lives with hayate, although spends a lot of time at koki’s place. kaoru is in class 1-b, and is close friends with reiko yanagi, juzo honenuki, kinoko komori and pony tsunotori. he is currently interning with gang orca!
kaoru and koki, like the rest of the quads, didn't have that much of a relationship when kaoru was young - since koki was quite a bit older than them and was never really home. however, kaoru is always involved in the weekly family meal and sees koki everyday at school, and therefore they have a positive relationship. again, it’s not really a sibling relationship, but more of an uncle-nephew relationship.

KENZO MORI [ 森玄三 ] ✧ fifteen [ twenty four ] ✧ scorpio ✧ bat.
kenzo is the twelfth born mori sibling, born when koki was thirteen years old, and is the youngest of koki's younger quadruplet siblings. he goes to ua and is in the hero course ( class 1-b ) and his hero name is "ikaros", carrying on the family tradition of greek mythology inspired names. his quirk is also "bat", exactly the same as koki's quirk - however, the difference being that kenzo has wings on his back rather than on his arms.
kenzo is a very self-sufficient and alert person, along with very compassionate and loyal - making him a perfect candidate for a pro-hero. he is also a very patient person, unlike most of his other siblings. he’s smart, and wants to study at university, despite most heroes just focusing on being a sidekick through their late teens/early twenties. however, he is considered a little bit naive at times - and can be easy to manipulate. he’s living with the rest of his siblings in hayate’s house, but also spends a lot of time at koki’s apartment place, since he’s interning with koki at his agency. he is in class 1-b and is close friends with shihai kuroiro, togaru kamakiri, jurota shishida and manga fukidashi.
kenzo has much the same relationship to koki as the rest of the quadruplets do. however, he and koki become a little closer once the hero course students pick their internships, since he chooses to intern with koki. therefore, he stays a lot at koki’s to do internship ‘homework’, which gives him and koki more time to bond. koki is definitely more like a cool uncle than a brother though.

YUMIKO MORI [ 森優美子 ] ✧ thirteen [ twenty two ] ✧ cancer ✧ bat.
yumiko is the thirteenth and final mori sibling, born when koki was fifteen years old. she, of course, is in middle school and has no intention of going into the hero course, instead wanting to focus on going to medical school. her quirk is also "bat", almost exactly the same as koki's quirk - the only difference being that, like some of her other siblings, she has wings on her back rather than part of her arms.
yumiko is very headstrong an assertive, along with being very honest. she’s independent and loves to do things on her own, and hates getting help from other people. she’s very similar to dai, in the sense that she’s incredibly smart and wants to head into university instead of being a hero - she wants to be a vet. plus, like dai, she is always doing something. she has extracurriculars everyday after school ( science club, theatre, gymnastics, netball, soccer ) and at the weekend is often with her friends at the mall. however, her assertive and quick paced nature can make her come across as a bit insensitive to other people. she, of course, lives with hayate and the rest of her siblings at the moment, though loves bugging koki.
koki would be protective of yumiko, but he knows she has herself handled. unlike a lot of their other minor siblings, yumiko and koki have a closer relationship - she was actually too young to remember a time he wasn’t around and, therefore, in her life, he’s always been around. she’s also really good friends with koki’s oldest son, kosuke, and acts like an older cousin to him ( don’t tell her they’re aunt and nephew, she does find that weird ).
