everyone in the school knew the two, y/n and keonho, “best friends” as they claimed.
everyone assumed they were dating from how much they were always together. by the way that keonho would drop everything to help her with anything she needed. by the way he would walk home with her every single day.
every time they just laughed “no… we’re just good friends!” and continued on.
they knew their friendship, she was his favorite girl and she was his favorite boy, there was nothing more to it.
“juhoon!” y/n’s voice was heard as laughter emitted from her mouth. keonho was waiting for her to come out so he could walk her to class, but that sound caught him off guard.
he peeked inside, a boy was holding y/n’s phone up in the air and she was reaching for it while laughing loudly.
“i’m not gonna reach over you. give me my phone!” she attempted to sound serious but could not stop laughing.
keonho moved away from the door, staring off, deciding to just wait patiently. and eventually, she came out, with rosy cheeks and out of breath from laughter.
“hey keonho!” y/n smiled up at him, giving him a light punch on the shoulder as a greeting.
he took it, a light smile on his face. “hey y/n, you’re out of breath, what’s that about?”
“oh that, this boy in class stole my phone! i was trying to get it back from him.” she remarked, he nodded.
“why’d he steal your phone?” he questioned out of genuine curiosity.
“i may or may not have taken a picture of him asleep, but how couldn’t i? he had his mouth open, it was really funny!” she smiled lightly at the memory, and he smiled as well. she seemed happy and that’s all that mattered to him.
he dropped her off at her last class of the day. everything felt fine.
“no, you have to take the poster board home! i did most of the work while you slept in class, so you need to make up for what you didn’t do!” y/n scolded a boy while walking out the school.
keonho was there at the gates, waiting for her. he was staring off into the distance when he recognized her voice, he turned his head to find her but his eyebrows furrowed at the sight before him.
y/n was walking with that same boy from earlier, she sounded like she was scolding him but her face didn’t match it at all. she looked like she was trying not to laugh.
keonho crossed his arms, tilting his head without noticing, she never brought anyone else with her to go home.
she finally reached keonho and said goodbye to juhoon, “it’s time to go home!” she squealed excitedly, taking his hand in hers and beginning to skip while dragging him along.
immediately his smile was back on his face as he let her drag him.
they arrived at y/n’s house, him laying on his back on her couch while she was sat on the floor next to him, head slightly leaning against him.
it was silent but they were enjoying each others company, well it was that way for a moment.
keonho glanced over and noticed y/n typing with quick fingers. he squinted and saw the contact name “juhoon from school”. he brought a hand up to his head, scratching it.
“so that’s his name.” he said to himself internally. he didn’t want to make a big deal about it because it was clear they were just partners in class, so he shut his eyes and let himself fall asleep.
a few days had passed, keonho noticed juhoon being mentioned more often, it felt as if they were becoming good friends. deep down he knew he felt a way about it, but he didn’t know the word for it. and it’s not like he was going to say anything, y/n is allowed to have other friends.
keonho waited for y/n outside of her class, and she came out with a now familiar figure, juhoon.
“oh!” she sounded almost surprised, “juhoon this is keonho, keonho this is juhoon!”
juhoon gave keonho a smile, for some reason all keonho could do was give him a light smile in return. he didn’t understand why, it’s not like juhoon had personally done anything to him, yet.
“y/n mentions you a lot.” juhoon spoke, and keonho felt the tips of his ears turn red.
“really?” he was shocked to hear that, which was weird considering the fact that he was her best friend. his gaze fell to her face, which was slightly red and covered by her hand.
he smirked, then looked back to juhoon. “how’d y’all meet?” he questioned, trying to make conversation with the boy now that he suddenly felt a whole lot better.
“she’s always been in my class but we just for assigned a project together and,” he scratched the back of his neck, “safe to say i may not be the best partner.”
immediately y/n lit up, “yeah, this boy sleeps all fucking class! he gets no work complete, we’re going to have to meet up outside of school to get this poster done!”
and just like that, keonho’s mood was killed. he couldn’t identify why but that upset him because he wanted to hang out with y/n today.
oh well, there’s always next time.
the days moving forward felt like hell for keonho. after further analysis he realized that y/n and juhoon were becoming friends, real friends.
k: “wanna hang out after school today? :)”
and she would reply with something along the lines of,
y: “can’t, i’m with juhoon today.”
he would ignore it, tell himself it was nothing, until it changed.
k: “hey y/n, it’s been a while since we hung out. park at 5?”
he sent the message anxiously, hoping he’d get the response he’d want to hear. but he didn’t,
y: “sorryyyy keonho, i’ll be with juhoon today. :(( i’ll make it up to you i swear !!”
he frowned, fingers typing fast.
k: “really? how’s the project going?”
the response made his heart nearly shatter,
y: “that project? it ended a few days ago hahaha, we got an A+ !!! are you proud 😳🤩🤩🤩”
his grip on his phone tightened, so if the project was over, why’s she still with him???? he tried not to sound bothered in his response,
k: “ohhh, okay. 👍 congratulations 🎉 well… let me know when you’re available to hangout.”
he huffed, putting his phone down as he lied down on his bed, breathing heavy as he stared at the ceiling. he felt disappointed, everything with y/n always flowed well, why did it feel like he had to try now? like he was in a competition.
he rolled his eyes, throwing a pillow on his face and falling asleep that way, it’s better than overthinking about it right?
keonho sat down at their usual lunch spot on the rooftop, waiting patiently for y/n with some of her favorite snacks. he got her banana milk and a chocolate croissant, maybe she’d stop ditching him.
when she arrived, his eyes lit up. he was so happy to see her-
his happiness lasted all of about 3 seconds when he saw a boy turn the corner, juhoon.
his eyes narrowed as his thick eyebrows furrowed, an undeniable crease appearing in between. why did she have to bring him, why? why couldn’t this just be the two of them, like how it used to be.
he gripped the bottom of the bench as he forced a very weak smile on his face, and when they finally got to the table, his mood got even worse.
juhoon also had brought her a banana milk and a chocolate croissant, meaning she told him that she loved those.
“she never had to tell me she liked those, i just knew.” he spoke distastefully in his head. y/n took a seat next to juhoon instead of keonho, which definitely felt like a punch in the face.
“hey, uhh y/n i brought you these.” he pushed the milk and snack towards her weakly, feeling like he had all the energy drained from him.
she gasped, holding them up along with what juhoon brought, “double trouble!” she shook them sarcastically, causing juhoon to burst out laughing.
keonho couldn’t even fake laugh if he wanted to, just keeping that same forced smile on his face.
he felt like an outcast watching them talk, feeling excluded. he didn’t want to be included though, he just wanted juhoon to leave.
not that he had anything against juhoon, he just felt like he was becoming a third wheel.
that thought angered him, and subconsciously, he leaned into y/n. hand reaching for hers, it was so casual he didn’t even realize he did it, still staring off into the distance.
she noticed, of course she did. she stopped what she was saying, looking down at their hands and then up and keonho who wasn’t even paying attention, flashing him a small smile before returning to what she was saying.
by this point, his actions were happening before he could even attempt to stop them.
that afternoon, they were finally walking home together. he didn’t even know what to talk about because his mind had been so polluted lately.
suddenly, an arm wrapped around y/n’s shoulder, leaning in to say something in her ear.
keonho couldn’t believe what he was seeing, y/n immediately bursted out laughing, pushing the boy away playfully and rubbing her ear.
jealousy spiked through his veins, blood suddenly pumping faster. he moved close to y/n, wrapping his arm around her shoulder and pulling her close as they walked.
juhoon saw it, his smile never fell, he just waved goodbye to y/n and left.
it made keonho very happy to see him walk away. suspiciously happy. he reminded himself, juhoon didn’t do anything personal to you. but he was nearing the point of no return.
he didn’t even have anything he wanted to speak about to y/n for the rest of the walk, he was upset at what had just happened in front of him.
he simply walked her home in silence, what used to be their comfortable silence now felt VERY uncomfortable for him. there was tension in the air, but it was one-sided.
y/n was very much at peace by his side, humming and tilting her head from side to side.
keonho dropped her off at her house, but held onto her hand and spun her around, causing her to look up at him.
“hm?” she raised an eyebrow, wondering why he stopped her.
“just… text me more. you haven’t been texting me much often, i wouldn’t mind little updates about your day. i noticed you only had snacks for lunch, eat a proper meal today and let me know when you do.” he instructed, almost as if he was her guardian.
“okayyyyy… when did you become so authoritative?” she joked, but it wasn’t a joke to him. his expression went blank, blinking rapidly, not finding her joke funny in the slightest.
he was self-conscious now, is he overstepping? he couldn’t help but wonder if she meant it.
she punched his shoulder lightly, “hey i’m just fucking with you, i’ll text you when i eat a huge bowl of ramen.” she smiled, and he returned it.
he rubbed her hand for a moment and then let go, heading home.
that walk home consisted of him with his hands in his pockets, eyes to the ground, walking based off of muscle memory. because he was indeed losing his mind. he kept checking his phone for a notification from her, something to give him hope that she still thought about him.
the night arrived, not a single text from y/n. he felt soulless. she forgot about him. that realization kept him up all night long.
keonho dragged his feet along the pavement, y/n finally came to him but of course, juhoon was with her.
he felt so defeated, she forgot about him and didn’t check on him at all throughout the school day.
she arrived and tapped his shoulder, voice gentle. “hey keon… you look really sulky today, are you okay?”
he finally looked at her properly, eyelids heavy, he didn’t want to look like a loser in front of her, so he nodded weakly, pressing his lips into a thin line.
“you’ve got to get some sleep, fighting bro.” juhoon joked with him before dapping up y/n and leaving. that only killed keonho’s mood even more, seeing how happy she looked to hold his hand.
when juhoon left, keonho took her hand, the hand juhoon didn’t touch. “you didn’t text me.” he said, staring straight ahead.
she opened her mouth to speak when suddenly the emotion fell from her face, and it was replaced with a guilty expression. “oh keonho i’m so sorry! i was just on the phone with-“
“with juhoon.” he finished the sentence for her. her words caught, she looked over at him.
he didn’t look back, just looking towards the ground. “it’s not like i care,” even though he obviously did, and couldn’t even hide it anymore, “just wish i didn’t have to get ignored in the process.”
she sighed, stopping in her tracks, they were right in front of her house anyways. “i’m sorry keonho, seriously. i don’t want you feeling replaced. i’ll go cook a delicious meal and send you a photo when it’s done.”
then, she wrapped her arms around keonho, pulling him into a tight hug, and that’s when he noticed it.
he caught feelings for her.
the hug felt entirely too reassuring, like none of this ever happened. like it was just them two again. he loved it, he didn’t want it to end.
his arms snaked around her waist, keeping her close, extending the duration of the hug until she tugged away.
he stared at her for a moment after the hug, then got flustered and immediately rushed to look elsewhere. “see you tomorrow?” she nodded, and he felt as if his hope in their friendship had been restored.
she sent him the photos of her food,
“it looks so good, ur such a great cook y/n, cook for me again someday. i miss eating steak and rice with you ˙◠˙”
y/n always texted him back immediately, but today, it took her exactly 17 seconds.
and as their conversation continued, he’d noticed exactly what was happening.
she was texting two people at once.
he sucked his teeth, drilling his phone into his mattress.
what can he possibly do to get her back? every option he could think of would require him confessing his feelings to her, and that wasn’t an option.
primarily because keonho didn’t see the extent of his “crush.”
k: “heyyy y/n” he texted her.
y: “hey keon, wassup ? 😊”
k: “nothing, i was wondering if you’d be down to hangout later?”
and for the first time in one felt like forever, he finally heard what he wanted to hear.
y: “i’m down! i’ll come over at 2.”
he squealed like a girl, immediately tidying up for her even though her never did since she was always at his house.
he prepared everything, he was excited for a great hangout since they hadn’t had one in what felt like FOREVER.
she arrived, hugging him as she entered, he felt blissful. by this point, he forgot about juhoon.
they sat on his couch together, talking about life for a moment, about the future, about the past.
“remember when you got chased home by a dog?” keonho chuckled, reminiscing.
y/n pouted, “not funny! he almost killed me!”
“it was a yorkie!” keonho laughed harder, “besides, i distracted it so you could get home safely!”
she nodded, the smile finally appearing on her lips.
it was so relieving to see her smile for him, not from someone else. he liked it this way.
but the moment didn’t last for long when her phone buzzed, she picked it up and let out a light giggle.
“what happened?” he tilted his head, trying to look at her phone.
she tilted her screen away from his eyesight, “nothing!”
he pouted slightly, “who’re you smiling at?”
a smile rose upon her face, “juhoon sent me something funny.”
he swore he heard his ears ringing, hearing his own heart thump against his chest. “oh.”
that’s all he said. no matter what it felt like he couldn’t win, juhoon was always around even if he wasn’t physically present.
the rest of their hangout was quite bland, keonho had an attitude and y/n was nose deep in her phone.
eventually it was time to go, keonho’s eyes had the slightest bit of hope in them as he opened the door for her.
“want to hang out tomorrow?” he tried, really hoping that he could get a better day.
she scratched the nape of her neck, a guilty expression appearing once again. he already knew what she was going to say.
“sorry, i’m hanging with juhoon tomorrow.” she spoke ashamed, refusing to look him in the eye.
he let out a shaky breath, trying to look unbothered. “it’s okay, bye y/n.” he pulled her in for a hug before letting her go.
once she was gone, he slid down the door, hand on his head, gripping his hair. it felt painful to see himself being replaced, and even more painful to see her so happy with somebody else.
she didn’t owe him anything, she wasn’t his girlfriend. but it definitely still hurt like hell. he finally let himself feel everything.
he missed her so much, all of her. her full attention, her giggles, her eyes on his. he wanted her all for himself.
and that thought scared him, because he knew he wasn’t that kind of guy. but unfortunately, jealousy was getting to him.
so, he did what was best for her, he pulled away.
after two weeks, she invited him to her house.
he was laying on his back on her bed, and she was beside him with her back against the wall.
she analyzed him, he looked sad. sadder than she’d ever seen. and she felt bad because she felt like she knew why, she didn’t want to be the one to bring this up. however, she noticed such a change in his behavior. he was drifting away from her, and it was hurting her feelings, because this was the exact opposite of what she wanted to happen.
“keonho,” she took his hand in hers, playing with his fingers while staring him in the eyes.
he hummed weakly, not even looking over at her, face dull.
“have i done something wrong?” she asks, voice small. this question caused him to finally look over at her, eyebrows furrowing, “no? what..?”
“keonho.” she rocked his hand, he squinted. “what’s happening? why do you think you did something wrong?”
“because, you’ve been acting different lately. really distant and overall just, not like yourself.” she noted, “you stopped coming to my classes to walk me around school. you stopped walking me home from school. and you even stopped reaching out. now i understand i’ve been a little distant lately, but i didn’t want you to pull away from me keonho.” she recalled without breaking eye contact with him, but he couldn’t keep the eye contact.
“there’s no reason-“ he was cut off, “keonho!” a small smile crept on her face.
he refused to look at her now, she felt like her suspicions were correct, so she shot him the golden question. “what are we?”
his world froze, he felt the color drain from his skin, he didn’t think this is where the conversation was going but it completely flustered him.
he could tell her how he feels, but that leaves room for rejection that he’s not willing to face. even if he’d wanted to confess eventually, he was not really for it to be now.
he seriously couldn’t look at her now, incredibly too thrown by the question.
so, she fixed it for him. “if you have any feelings, please tell me keonho.” she grabbed his face, turning his head towards her.
his pupils trembled and his cheeks were flushed, so she did what felt right in the moment.
she leaned in, pressing their lips together softly. his lips were warm, and much more soft than she’d ever expected, causing her to deepen the kiss.
his mind couldn’t catch up with what was happening. never in a million years could he have imagined that she knew he liked her. it was too much to handle.
but by the way she was kissing him in the moment, it was too good to pass up the opportunity.
his hands snaked up to hold her jaw as he kissed back, hard, like he’d wanted to for a while. her hand slid from his face to his shirt, clutching on like it was her lifeline.
she tilted her head into the kiss, causing their noses to brush and make them both breathlessly giggle into each others mouths.
when she finally pulled away, she stayed close enough to look into his eyes. his pupils met hers in adoration, a small frown on his face.
“i really thought that you found someone else. it’s so stupid but i thought you were trying to replace me with juhoon, it hurt so bad y/n i thought i lost you.” he spoke frantically.
she shook her head with a light smile, “i know, it wasn’t meant to come off that way. it’s just, he knew i liked you and i was trying to get his help-“
“you’ve liked me?” he cut her off, genuinely sounding stunned. his thoughts were racing, he couldn’t keep up.
“of course i did keonho. you’ve always treated me like a princess, how couldn’t i like you.” she smiled brighter.
his doe eyes softened even more, and before he could second guess it he pulled her back in for another kiss.
this kiss had more desperation behind it. every single feeling he’d had within the last 3 weeks was poured into the kiss. every moment where he thought she found a new favorite boy, every moment where he thought she was abandoning him, everything made sense now.
juhoon never once had anything bad to say about keonho, and he even made sure to mention y/n always bringing him up.
everything added up now, and his heart felt so full.
he traced circles on her back, kissing her softly to make up for the passion behind the kiss before.
she smiled against his lips and he couldn’t help but do the same. she pulled away and smiled even harder as she wrapped her arms around him and pushed her face into his neck.
this moment felt so rewarding for the both of them, and now they both felt incredibly too excited to see where they could progress from here.
my first request !! this was so fun to write, i definitely kept going blank minded midway but it was so worth it. thank you anon for the amazing idea, i hope you enjoy it !! ◝(˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶)◜
