My parents brought newborn-me home from the hospital on my mom's lap, with my 7yo brother riding in the package shelf behind them. (Triumph convertible)
See, that’s what I’m talking about! It’s simultaneously thrilling and COMPLETELY HORRIFYING.
librarian-amy replied to your post “Iscah was on Sam’s lap and Xholotl was riding shotgun, head blissfully...”
Is Xholotl a person or a dog?
Xholotl is a dog. :D Sam bought a pair of pit bull mix pups, intending to use them as guard dogs after a brutal murder in his hometown. And they are both good guard dogs! But his toddler Iscah declared Xholotl was hers, named him, and won’t be parted from him for ANY REASON, EVER.

I remember riding in the back of a pickup. It's a beautiful memory and I will treasure it always. I feel bad no kids of mine will ever get that experience.
I remember getting the ULTIMATE PRIVILEGE of sitting in the backwards-facing “trunk” seats of an old station wagon that didn’t have seatbelts. It was the BEST.

I worked with a guy named Horst Arnold and 90% of his mail came addressed to Arnold Horst.
Behold, I bring you: Arnold Donald.
It's brutally hot in Chicago July 4th so... you go to Texas instead?
The thing about Texas is that while it is brutally hot here, they understand heat, they properly respect heat, and they air-condition absolutely fucking everything.
dignitywhatdignity replied to your photo “Ancestral Doughnut Bread Pudding!”
Is it ancestral because you offered the donuts to your ancestors, or was the recipe just handed down from Mama Tickey or someone?
Nah, I basically made the recipe up -- really anything can be bread pudding if you have stale breadstuff (cake, croissants, bread, muffins) chopped up and mixed with eggs, dairy, a bit of fat (you can use cream instead of milk and leave the butter out) and sugar. It’s ancestral because the doughnuts were first used as ancestral offerings.

LOL! I was scrolling and saw the Ancestral Doughnut Bread Pudding before I saw this post, and all I could think was "Sam, no, if they're THAT old, don't eat them" before I remembered there will probably be a reasonable explanation further down. Feel better. Does steam help?
Ahahahaha, although I LOVE day-old Dunkies munchkins, any more than a day old and doughnuts just aren’t much good for eating.
As for steam, it doesn’t seem to, although warm beverage seems to a little.

Jeebus, Sam. Hi, the antibiotic should help in three days or less - if not, get rechecked and switched. And pain meds. You got meds for pain right?
No, you gotta be actively screaming in pain to get prescription pain medication out of a doctor anymore. But the Sudafed has OTC pain medication, and I’m still allowed to take Nyquil so I can sleep.
theahole replied to your photo “Ancestral Doughnut Bread Pudding!”
what are stale doughnuts?
Oh, just day-old doughnuts, like from Dunkin or Tim Hortons or Krispy Kreme. Donuts I suppose is the more known spelling, I don’t mean anything special. I got half a dozen -- a couple of plain glazed, a pumpkin cake, a chocolate iced, and an orange iced.
kestrelhill reblogged your photo and added:
Oh man, with day-old cider doughnuts…!
bylillian replied to your photo “Ancestral Doughnut Bread Pudding!”
Imma try that with some Round Rock donuts.
I do recommend if the doughnuts aren’t frosted, add some sugar to the egg-milk mixture. I just plain didn’t remember to, and then I thought “This...does not need more sugar.” :D
LOOK AT ALL MY HANDSOME BIRBS. (And one cat hiding in the middle. :D
Clockwise from top left IN A SPIRAL:
Penguin matryoshkas from @clockways, I intend to collect eventually on the promise of a housewarming gift :D
Some beautiful cardinals (I included the wax seal from the envelope because I love wax seals) from @thurifut -- I think your calligraphy is lovely, and thank you for the good wishes.
PENGUIN MATRYOSHKA TWIN! (I think this card is hilarious and loving having two of them) from Courtney (I think? Correct me if I’m wrong!) which also had some delicious tea in it. I literally am sipping one as we speak because I have a raging headache.
A wonderful owl in a scarf from @algaegirl17; your inscription inside was lovely and I’m so glad I can entertain and uplift fandom and give people joy. I hope your 2017 goes well too.
Okay for like a week I’ve been calling this card the Penguin In Headphones from @siancrosslin before realizing no, dumbass, that’s a penguin in EARMUFFS, but I love the idea of a rockin’ winter penguin too much to really believe those are earmuffs. And thank you for the note, I’m glad I can be a positive force online!
There are actually three wintry owls on the card, sorry two of them got shuffled under, from Cory and @godof221b. It included a fun “update” type letter; I love getting those, it’s fun reading the news everyone wants to share. It sounds like you guys are having an amazing time making lots of great art.
Penguins with a fantastically cocky baby penguin is from @junker5 - you are always so enthusiastic in your asks and comments, and your wonderful note in the card conveyed that as well :) As soon as I saw “Junker5″ I was like YES. THIS FITS.
The penguins with warm wishes (and big eyes!) comes from @kestrelhill; “weirdness and wonder” is what I aspire to so that’s a very good hope for the new year!
The two tiny robins sharing a garland is a wonderful card from @rosiedeplume (a decade, holy crap, I agree!). I appreciate the good wishes for a smooth home search. From here on out, right?
And finally, a kitty lurking amongst the birbs, a wonderful Charles Harper card (I love his work!) from @winds-wanderer. Thank you so much for the good wishes, and for the phrase “random acts of weirdness” because that made me chuckle. :D
Two down...three more card posts to go! I’m kind of enjoying doing them in such a leisurely fashion, gives me time to review and reflect.
And get glitter all over myself multiple times. :D

Well, they’re traveling, so ... ;)
They all have their pros and cons. I’m writing the blue bits to get to the moment, then I’ll decide.
After reading opinions here from both the reader and write sides, I've been trying to get more consistent about commenting on stories I enjoy. I left a note on one that seems terribly under-noticed and got the nicest message back from the writer, saying they'd been having a rough day and really appreciated my burst of enthusiasm! Way to encourage me to comment more often!
woohoo! Glad to hear it :)
