Captain N: King Hippo by kevinbolk

“Next of the Captain N villains is Punch-Out's King Hippo.   Of all the original cartoons character designs, I disliked King Hippos on almost every level. Whereas Simon Belmont's design was just out-of-character, King Hippo's was just bad. Methinks it had something to do with the big blue nipples. Wait...why was he blue in the first place!? So yeah, I gave him his original Punch-Out colors (right down to those goofy pink boxing gloves). The writing on his belly was a gag I had put on the original sketch, but then thought it was too awesome to NOT include in the final design.  Fan of Punch-Out, take note. ;-P “

Never in my life did I ever think I would meet one of my biggest drawing inspirations, Kevin Bolk, aka K-Bo! I am such a huge fan of this guy and it was such a pleasure meeting him. #SPX #SmallPressExpo #KevinBolk (at Bethesda, Maryland)

So I ended up going to Matsuricon on a last minute whim yesterday. I didn't have the cash to swing for a pass into the dealer's room, but through some miracle I ended up bumping into kevinbolk anyway. He's really chill and fantastically talented and we bonded over our mutual Kevin-ness. Definitely the highlight of my day.

I got to meet kevinbolk again this last weekend at Youmacon, and he's still just as cool of a dude as ever! He did a panel on the Art of Cute (that I missed ;___; ) but golly he's so nice and such a joy to talk to, check out his website, check out his comics, give him some love! ;v;
