Classicstober Day 5: Chiron 🏹
CHIRON Complex
[Chiron conjunct/opposition/sextile/square]
Chiron happens to be a signature in your chart, and it's part of your life experience and expression. The energy of Chiron is called the wounded healer, but because you have it in your chart, it means you are a healer.
You are a shaman. You have the power to heal, not only yourself, but others. Your essence is that of healing. But in order to be able to heal, we must first understand our own pain and wounds. Often with the Chiron Complex, it implies that there are wounds; they go very deep and they're extremely tender.
It's often the place you feel inadequate; where you have to overcompensate; and where there is a fear of abandonment and rejection. It is an essential process of you unearthing, owning, bathing in, and coming to terms with that. In that process, a confidence would build that will empower you, because you’re meant to be a healing force in this world. You’re meant to turn your pain and suffering into wisdom. And this is where your healing powers lie. The sooner you connect to that, the sooner all the possibilities in your life open.
Chiron was originally considered an asteroid, but is now considered a minor planet. Chiron is often the place we do feel the most insecure and we lack a certain confidence. It's this place where you wince emotionally and spiritually because the wounding is so deep and precise. It can be the place you feel the most abandoned and rejected, and that you're almost displaced in this world.
There's a shame around whatever this wounding is, and only you know what this wounding is. It's probably unique to you. It's not a blanket energy, where we can say Chiron equals this wounding, not that we try and be predictive otherwise. But it has a flavor where the wounding is unique to the person.
It's not as simple as defining it in one particular way or with one particular expression. But it's usually connected to where we do feel shame; and where we're constantly trying to overcompensate or hide from ourselves, and certainly from others.
It's an interesting alchemy with Chiron, because while the wounding is this place that you feel very insecure about, and self-esteem issues might rise from there; It's also the place of the deepest wisdom, and the deepest healing.
Wherever it is for you, Chiron is the place where you have healing powers and through the process of healing it within you, and you transform into a healer for others.
In fact, you might be the type of person that is an incredible counselor, guide and teacher for others especially to those you love and care about. You’re able to build people up and make them feel good about themselves, however it's very hard for you to do it for yourself.
Part of the big process in life is healing this feeling of rejection and abandonment within you. Through that process, through that alchemy, you become a healer for others. It's this process of transmuting your pain into growth and wisdom.
But Chiron is often the place where we tend to overcompensate and try and give to others, which kind of hides it from ourselves. It’s a process where you're externalizing it - but in life, it's how do you give and give, and give to this place within yourself that is wounded so that you can heal it and become confident in this area.
Because it's usually synonymous with where you feel insecure, where you feel guilt and where you feel you need to prove yourself and that you're different from others. They couldn't possibly understand your unique pain so you're kind of alone in it; and there's nobody else that could understand it, or comfort and heal you. In a sense, it really is a foil for you healing yourself because you don't feel anybody else could even relate. That being so, your life journey becomes one in which you do this for yourself.
Especially related to this tender part of you is the place where you feel overly criticized. The trigger around it could be profound hence it's almost devastating when you're criticized for this part of you which you feel overly ashamed of. On that account, it's something to be conscious of.
If you ever get in that place where you’re just feeling gutted by some kind of criticism; if you can sit with yourself and take a moment to start to process it; and almost forget the other person — why they said it and what they did — seeing that they're most likely showing up in your life as a foil for you to recognize this wound.
It's hidden inside you, and sometimes we need other people to come in and show it to us. We're so angry at them, perhaps we hate them and want them to go away; but if we can look at them as helpful in our life, because all they're trying to do is be a mirror and try and show us something about ourselves, then the sooner we can make it not about proving to them that they're wrong or overcompensating to them.
Rather, it's about putting them aside and being with yourself, starting to process what this is that is buried deep within you that you're so ashamed of. What is the deep wounded secret within you that you've repressed, because you're so afraid if you share it you'll be rejected? Chiron is trying to bring that to light.
Bring it to the surface so you can heal it, so it doesn't have to hold you back anymore. Because on some level we'd say, without this healing, you’re being held back. When we keep things secret and hidden, that can breed a lot of insecurity, fear and shame. You want to bring that to the surface and start to tend to it. You might be very good at building other people up, but at the same time, you're kind of neglecting your own needs and you're not being a cheerleader for yourself.
You're a teacher for others, you're guiding others and being caring when other people are wounded, because you can somewhat pick up on it. In you healing others, and in you helping others; it somehow feels like you're doing it for yourself - but often you can feel deserted in that place, and that there is nobody there to offer you the same kind of support and healing that you can offer them.
To go back to the story of Chiron in Greek mythology, Chiron (Kheiron) was a half-man, half-centaur. A centaur is a half-man, half beast. The centaurs were famous for being wild (you know.. sex, drugs, and rock and roll in Greek times). I mean, they were really these sort of wild beasts. That's what they were known for.
Chiron was abandoned at birth by his mother. It was said that she was disgusted and ashamed of his appearance as this half-man, half-beast, and she left him. He was essentially an orphan. Then he was found by the sun god Apollo, who took him in, nurtured him and educated him. Chiron became this wise, brilliant being who was also an expert in medicine and healing.
He wound up becoming a teacher and a guide for others, including the famous Achilles. So if we apply this to the energy of Chiron, it's about being abandoned because somebody's ashamed of you. Chiron ended up being this unique centaur, in that he was very wise and kind. He was different than other centaurs. He was considered very sophisticated and more mental, not driven by his beastly desires.
Ultimately, at the end of his life, he was pierced by this poison arrow. He was suffering and was in a lot of pain. Chiron's father was a god, so Chiron had immortality meaning that he was going to live in this pain forever. He chose to go to Zeus and said, “I'll give up my immortality if you free Prometheus and let me die.”
Prometheus is the one who stole fire from the gods and gave it to the humans. As one would expect a heavy punishment, he was stuck on a rock with his guts being eaten every day. He was definitely not in a good place. Chiron went in and healed him in the sense that he got Zeus to make this trade. Zeus freed Prometheus and he let Chiron die, and then he put him in the sky as the constellation of the centaur, which is the Centaurus constellation.
Sharing this just to help color and flavor your own experience in the sense that this is an energy of feeling abandoned and rejected. Often from as early as we can remember. Perhaps even in childhood, or with caregivers, or in your culture just feeling ostracized and alone in this world. You’re not like other people but it breeds insecurity within yourself and this desire to hide and shame yourself.
But the intention of your life is to heal this, to metabolize this, to become wise from it, and then to be a guide for others through your own confidence that you've built for yourself, that you've healed for yourself, and it allows you to share it with others whether you do consciously or not.
It doesn't mean that you have to be an official healer or counselor, but you have an energy where people in your life likely do feel that you can be supportive; and that just being in your presence, something is being mended that something is being treated, made good and you have that quality in you.
So again, it's applying it to your own personal journey and where you're at. You might be in the phase where you still keep kind of the secret (this thing within you that you don't want anybody to know about.)
And the sooner you start to make peace with that and mend that within you, the sooner your life and the possibilities open up, because you're not sort of hiding away with the shame of some-kind of secret within you. If you are somebody who definitely recognizes this in yourself and knows it is on that journey, just keep going.
It's a really beautiful energy because you are somebody that's a guide for others on that journey. This is all designed for you.
So it's moving past thinking you've done something wrong. You've done nothing wrong. That kind of insecurity that you're being punished; ideally can be shifted into: This is happening for you, because this is going to be your greatest gift.
This is the crack where the light gets in and this is part of what you're meant to share with the world.

Obviously Gymnastics in the modern sense is *very* different from Gymnastics in Ancient Greece.
The ancient version “gymnazein” was derived from “gymnos”, or “naked,” and meant “to exercise naked”.
In that time, it included weightlifting, running, and tumbling. Pommel-Horse may have also been a thing, and a possible proto-Vaulting was depicted in the “Toreador Fresco” from Minoan Knossos.

This week's #MythologyMonday theme is health and healing. The most powerful Greek god of healing is Apollon. He sends sudden death and disease but he also helps both gods and men heal from wounds and illness. Several of Apollon's epithets characterise him as a healer.
The epithet Apollon Akestôr, Apollon the Healer, the Doctor, appears in "Andromache" by Euripides.
The Athenians worshipped Apollon Alexikakos, Apollon the averter of evil, bc he was believed to have stopped the plague which raged at Athens in the time of the Peloponnesian war.
Apollon Epikourios, Apollon the helper, was worshipped at Bassae in Arcadia because he once delivered the country from a pestilence.
Apollon Loimios is Apollon the deliverer from plague.
Apollon Paian, Paiêôn or Paiôn, Apollon the healing, is the physician of the Olympian gods. The epithet Paian was later inherited by Asklepios, the god who had the power of healing.
Apollon Oulios, Apollon of sound health, can grant you good health and Apollon Akesios, Apollon of Healing, will cure you when you are sick. But Apollon also shares his gifts with his children:
Chiron (or Kheiron) was a son of Kronos, best known as the mentor of countless Greek heroes. Apollon raised him as his foster son and taught the young centaur the art of medicine, herbs, music, archery, hunting, gymnastics and prophecy. Chiron invented medicine and surgery.
Chiron mentored his foster brother Asklepios, a mortal son of Apollon: "In one stride Apollon was there, and seized the babe [Asklepios] from the dead maid [Koronis]. Then he took the child to Chiron, that he teach him to be a healer for mankind of all their maladies and ills."
And Chiron "nursed gentle Asklepios, that craftsman of new health for weary limbs and banisher of pain, the godlike healer of mortal sickness." "The centaur was delighted with that child of heavenly stock, his honourable charge."
Asklepios went on to surpass his mentor, restoring the dead to life. Zeus feared that men might learn the art of medicine from Asklepios and help each other out, so he hit him with a thunderbolt. Apollon in grief and rage slew the Kyklopes who designed his father's thunderbolts.
As punishment, Apollon was given in servitude to Admetos, the King of Thessaly. But seeing his son's pain, Zeus brought Asklepios back from the realm of Hades and made him an immortal god, the patron of all doctors and the god of medicine. He was soon worshipped all over Greece.
Asklepios got married to Epione, goddess of the soothing of pain. Together they have five children, the Asklepiades: Hygeia (Good Health), Panakeia (Cure-All), Iaso (Healing), Aigle (Radiance), and Akeso (Curing).
Papa Apollon and foster brother Chiron are so happy for him!
