single dad au with dean and cas as competitive kindergarten teacher aids. dean took over bobby's auto body shop at twenty-five and is now the official ceo of the business while cas is a midwife and has a small, but profitable clientele because of his reputation as the best midwife in middle america so they both get to set their own hours. dean insists that he volunteers as an aid because of his son ben's allergies to tons of things (who knew a kid could be allergic to bananas?) and cas says that he volunteers to watch over claire and her "behavioral problems", but both actually do it because they love the competition that they have going. they compete about who can bring the most supplies for a party and who can read the most books to the kids and such stuff. sure, it seems a little ridiculous, but they aren't seriously competing for a "best parent award" and it spices up their lives (maybe it sometimes gets a little too spicy when dean winks at cas across the room while cleaning up crayons). eventually, it's the end of the school year and the end of being teacher aids and the kids come up to both of them with a gigantic card that says "thanks mr. novak and mr. winchester!". yeah, with the glitter and the googley eyes haphazardly pasted across the front, it looks like a disaster, but cas and dean couldn't be more grateful, especially when they look and see that everyone has signed it in their best penmanship. but that isn't the biggest surprise. it's actually when ben and claire start chanting "k-i-s-s-i-n-g..." as their fathers look deeply at each other. the teacher, ms. jo, tries to calm the class down as they start to join the chanting, but even she can't stop it. dean and cas looked at each other. the eyes, the lips, everything. then dean quietly whispers into cas' ear, "we got nothing to lose, man" and kisses him for a quick second. the whole class starts to cheer and both dean and cas blush under the attention. who knew a little friendly competition could become a lot more than friendly?
