Lil wholesome modern kindergarten AU idea, just yapping.
Bucky’s first day of daycare, scared out of his mind. Wondering why his ma had to leave him here. It’s too loud. And when it comes to nap time it’s ever worse, it’s dark! Buckys never slept without a nightlight— or his bear.
He cries as quietly as he can until a teacher comes to check on him. Eventually soothing him enough to have him quietly flip through books on his mat instead of napping. (I don’t know if this is a universal thing— but my teachers in kindergarten didn’t make me nap. So..)
Kindergarten becomes routine, and eventually he even befriends two other kids, nothing surprises him at kindergarten anymore.
That is until an unfamiliar face comes to the school, a short woman, blonde hair pulled back into a loose bun. She has nurses scrubs on with Pooh bear patterns on it and in her arms is a little boy. She says a few quick pleasantries before passing the small boy,Steve, over to the teacher, quickly pressing a kiss to his forehead before running off.
Steve gets a quick introduction to the other kids, but it’s obvious he’s on the verge of breaking down. His eyes are wide and watery, his bottom lip trembling as other students rush over asking to play. Unsurprisingly steve bolts, hiding in the book book corner. His knees are pulled up to his chest, each whimper carrying a wheeze along with it.
Bucky tries everything he can, offering a snack, toys, a hug. But the blonde seems set on outcasting himself for the time being. It isn’t until Bucky noticed Steve getting picked on a few days days that he steps in. Steve watches with wide eyes as Bucky pushes the boy that was bothering him. After that they start talking quickly becoming inseparable. Chaos ensues.

Could also be a puppy Bucky, or like an oopsy the avengers got de-aged thing. I dunno the idea of stucky kiddos having joy— and potentially angst. Is very cute, handler au if they got de-aged still haunts me.
Bucky being nervous, and scared since he’s only got the one arm now. And Steve being extra confused. This is all dumb thank you for reading my confusing rambling.
